The experienced midfielder will travel with the squad and the impressed City medical staff have given Guardiola the green light to start him in the tournament. Man City make decision on Rodri after being left astonished by state of fitness
Rodri made his return from injury in the final week of the Premier League season, and now Manchester City are going to be relying on him at the Club World Cup Manchester City are ready to hand Ballon d'Or winner Rodri a new contract. The Spanish midfielder has been negotiating with the club about a new deal for almost a year but was sidelined until the final week of the season when he ruptured a cruciate ligament in September. City's medical team have been astonished by the rate of Rodri's recovery and he is now set to play a big part in the Club World Cup after returning to action as a substitute in the penultimate game of the season. It's expected that the 28-year-old will sign a new deal to reflect his importance to the club and his status as being recognised as the world 's top player. Rodri has two years left on his current £200,000-a-week agreement. The new package will keep him in Manchester until 2029 and catapult him through the £300,000-a-week barrier to become City's second-biggest earner behind Erling Haaland. Rodri scored the winning goal in City's 2023 Champions League success but has long been regarded as the ultimate defensive midfielder. City's season fell apart when he was injured against Arsenal before they eventually clinched third place on the final day of the season. City will complete the £60million capture of AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan this week and are also looking to seal a £35million agreement to sign Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki before they go to the United States. Reijnders won't be the only Dutchman to arrive at the Etihad before the Club World Cup, with Jurgen Klopp 's former Liverpool No 2 Pep Lijnders agreeing to take up the same role alongside Guardiola. There may also be a role on Guardiola's backroom staff for former West Ham midfielder Alessandro Diamanti, who is currently a youth-team coach with sister club Melbourne City.

Man City will complete transfers before Club World Cup, says Al Mubarak
MANCHESTER, England: Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has promised the club will be ready with a new squad in time for the FIFA Club World Cup and that their transfer moves will be very swift. Premier League clubs agreed to open a pre-Club World Cup transfer window on June 1 for 10 days to allow teams to sign players before the tournament. "We have clearly identified who exactly are the targets, in what positions, and we have our clear number one option, our clear number two option," Al Mubarak said in an interview with City's club media channels. "And we'll go about our business and it will be very clear, very swift. And our objective is to try to be ready with the new squad for the Club World Cup." City face Wydad AC in their first game of the tournament on June 18. The team, bidding for a fifth successive Premier League title, suffered a mid-season free fall and finished third in the table, not securing a Champions League berth until the final day of the season. Al Mubarak admitted City had not been successful in last summer's transfer window. "Last summer, we probably should have been more aggressive in some of the changes we needed to do," Al Mubarak said. "We didn't do that and that ended up costing us this year. We already started that rebuild of this team in January." City brought in Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Nico Gonzalez during the January window. They lost to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final, however, in and ended the season without a trophy for the first time since 2016-17. "I think all the players, they're excited, they're excited about coming back. Nobody feels good about how we finished the season," Al Mubarak said. "They want to come back hungry. And I can see the hunger. I was speaking to Rodri as an example, he's looking for games. Erling (Haaland) didn't want to go on vacation." Spanish midfielder Rodri, the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, suffered a serious knee injury in September and did not return to action until the season's final two games.
