The 10 best new London restaurant openings in June 2025

News Smashburgers, celeb-run restos, canal-side bistros and the return of Big Mamma feature in Time Out's best restaurants opening in the capital this month Another month comes with another bunch of plucky cooks risking it all to launch themselves upon London's hungry masses. When it comes to new chain-y stuff, Lina Stores continues its eau de nil-shaded takeover via the medium of al-dente pasta with a Canary Wharf branch, while Harry's opens its fourth Italian restaurant in King's Cross. Meanwhile, Fortnum & Mason Royal Exchange will be home to a summer residency by seafood zaddy Rick Stein. Here's the best of the rest. The 10 best new London restaurants opening in June 2025 1. The one with a famous person Lupa, Highbury Depending on your level of addiction to Deux Moi, the most compelling thing about this north London-based Roman-style trattoria isn't the supplì al telefono croquettes, but the fact that White Lotus alumni Theo James is part of the team. The dishy actor has joined forces with restauranter and Carousel co-founder Ed Templeton to open Lupa, and ex-Pidgin head chef Naz Hassan will be in charge of the kitchen. Expect carbonara, puntarelle, and a steady influx of flustered local mums. Lupa opens late June. 3 Highbury Park, N5 1UA 2. The Euro burger place Dumbo, Shoreditch French smashburger titans Dumbo are opening their first London location in mid-June. Their first joint outside of Paris, the powerfully brief menu sees them serving up cheeseburgers, veggie burgers, fries (French, of course) and chicken nuggets. And that's basically it. 119 Bethnal Green Road, E2 7DG 3. A telly chef branches out Gina, Chingford You might have been following pastry chef, author and Junior Bake Off presenter Ravneet Gill's journey to opening her new restaurant on Instagram (and Substack) in which she and chef husband Mattie Taiano go into furious detail about 'launching our first restaurant in the worst year for restaurants ever'. Intense! The family-run chophouse opens on June 11. 92 Station Road, Chingford, E4 7BA 4. The trendy one by the water Canal, Westbourne Park With perfect summer timing comes the June 30 opening of Canal. With a prime position next to the Grand Union Canal, it comes from the same sturdy stable as Crispin and Bistro Freddie. New York chef Adrian Hernandez Farina is helming a very 2025 menu of bistro bangers, from polenta flatbreads to seabream crudo with burnt blood orange and ricotta agnolotti with cavolo nero and pecorino. But the slickest thing about Canal? Nicholas Daley has designed the staff uniforms – including a kilt. 11B Woodfield Road, Westbourne Park, W9 2BA 5. The new Big Mamma one Barbarella, Canary Wharf It's been a while since Big Mamma launched one of their outre trattorias in London, but Barbarella is making up for lost time, with a massive mirrored glass bar, 1970s-style chrome lounge area, and walls draped with silk. A pervy kind of paradise, by the sounds of things. Food is set to be equally over-the-top; caramelised tomato tatin with Parmigiano cream, a mega 1.2kg T-bone steak, and a one-metre long spaghettone. Barbarella opens June 20. YY Building, 30 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf, E14 5HX 6. The fabulous fish one Noisy Oyster, Shoreditch A fishy new spot from Madina Kazhimova and Anna Dolgushina from Soho's Firebird, Noisy Oyster is all about seafood classics from Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France but made with local, UK catches. The menu is inventive, verging on the pleasantly unhinged; oysters come with a smoked tomato water and horseradish mignonette, while scallops are dressed with pickled raspberry, chilli and basil oil, There's also a confit tuna nicoişe, pressed skate schnitzel with mixed peach panzanella, and crab, bisque and fennel orecchiette. Mini martinis are the move when it comes to drinks. Noisy Oyster opens June 20. 2 Nicholls Clarke Yard, Shoreditch, E1 6SH 7. The new Chilean hotspot Mareida, Fitzrovia Chilean cuisine isn't overly represented in London, which makes the opening of Mareida all the more intriguing. The Chilean team includes head chef Trinidad Vial Della Maggiora and Carolina Bazán, who was voted Latin America's Best Female Chef in 2019 by the World's 50 Best. Expect very good things. 160 Great Portland Street, W1W 5QA 8. An all-day Vietnamese canteen Lai Rai, Peckham Bringing all-day bánh mì to the masses, Lai Rai is a 'new school' Vietnamese coffee spot by day and a snack shop and beer house by night. Come for fried prawn on sugarcane stalks with peanut and nước chấm satay sauce, papaya jellyfish salad with pineapple, and twice-cooked crispy chicken. 181 Rye Lane, Peckham, SE15 4TP 9. The spruced up pub William The Fourth, Leyton Exale, one of our favourite breweries in London, is behind this revamped grand Victorian boozer. Reopening on June 12, it'll come with the arrival of Short Road Pizza – also in residence at Exale's Bethnal Green pub Three Colts – a Romana thin crust style pie with American-leaning toppings, and, yes, plenty of hot honey. Expect pints and cocktails as well as DJs, big games on the telly, quiz nights, and karaoke. 816 High Rd, Leyton, E10 6AE 10. Surf and also turf Island, King's Cross Big chef lads Brad Carter and Tom Brown are coming together to launch a new restaurant takeover at the King's Cross outpost of Mare Street Market. Island – which you'll find in the venue's Chandelier Room – is tribute to surf and turf, with the duo pushing a coastal-take on the classic American steakhouse. Expect caviar crisps, pickled cockles, oyster caesar salad, trout pastrami and quail stuffed with prawn paella on the fishy side of things, as well as a mighty mixed grill.

Chicago sandwich king debuts new Italian beef collab at Time Out Market

Acclaimed Hulu series The Bear continues to put spotlight on Chicago and its iconic Italian beef sandwich, catapulting our culinary scene to new heights and creating lots of copycats. But Chicagoans know there's nothing better than the real deal — which is why we're thankful for Windy City native Jeff Mauro, and his latest creation for Stefani's Bottega Italiana at Time Out Market Chicago. The new Mauro Beef Sandwich layers slow-roasted, thin-sliced prime beef with hot peppers and tangy giardiniera relish, served with gravy. Find it at Stefani's, which opened at Time Out Market in the West Loop back in February. The Italian icon typically slings Roman-style pizzas, pastas, and schiacciata sandwiches, but we have a feeling this big, beefy number might just outdo its predecessors. Born and raised in Oak Park, chef Jeff Mauro is considered the Sandwich King on Food Network's The Kitchen, and for good reason. For years, Mauro has been on a mission to make the best version of the beloved Chicago-style Italian beef. Only now has he finally achieved his goal with what he calls 'the best Italian beef for purchase,' featuring Turano bread, gravy, and an original recipe for giardiniera. (Pro tip from chef: Don't say the 'a' at the end of giardiniera when you order.) ' It's the greatest beef that you will ever taste,' Mauro told WBBM. 'And I guarantee that. It's USDA choice or prime whole muscle chuck roll. It's not filled with anything, it's like rubbed and roasted old school, sliced paper thin.' The Food Network star's collaboration with Stefani Restaurant Group includes a plan to ship this truly famous beef across the country, giving restaurants along the East Coast a taste of Chicago. Apparently, Mauro's father grew up with Phil Stefani, making this partnership a 'super special' personal and professional experience. And if you're looking for a high-quality beef sandwich outside the immediate area, Mauro recommends looking for high-turnover locales to guarantee fresh ingredients. 'The secret key is you got to wrap that sandwich,' he said. 'Throw it in a greasy paper bag.'

At Gary's Pizza, pies with a fine-dining pedigree

The backstory: Columbus Hospitality Group opened the French-Mediterranean Mistral in 1997, and followed it with Italian, steakhouse, and high-end seafood concepts. South End bistro Bar Lyon closed at the end of 2021; Gary's is located on the same Washington Street stretch. The month-old pizzeria is tiny and takeout-only, but its chefs come from the hospitality group's other restaurants. So who's Gary? That's the middle name of both owners chef Jamie Mammano and Paul Roiff. Chief culinary officer Mitchell Randall at Gary's Pizza. Suzanne Kreiter/Globe Staff What to eat: The pizza is the centerpiece. It's Roman-style, made in a long pan, featuring an airy, crisp crust that's golden on the bottom. The rectangular slices look like Sicilian, but the texture is a little lighter. In addition to the classic margherita, with tomato sauce, cheese, and basil, there are toppings such as pepperoni, asparagus and salt-cured egg yolk, prosciutto with figs and arugula, and soppressata with Jimmy Nardello peppers and hot honey (my favorite, if I had to pick). The pizza is good, and the slices are filling: Augment one or two with a Caesar salad with lush dressing, croutons, and lemon, and you're all set for dinner. Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Long, rectangular Roman-style pizza has a crisp, airy crust. Suzanne Kreiter/Globe Staff Advertisement There are sandwiches, too — prosciutto and mozzarella with oven-cured tomatoes and pistachio pesto, a meatball sub (but make the meatballs wagyu). The breads are house-made, and you can order ciabatta, focaccia, and Parker House rolls, with or without chickpea spread. (You may recognize some of the breads from Mooo…. or Ostra.) For dessert, try a salty-sweet chocolate chip cookie, Mallomar-inspired chocolates, or a pint of rich, nutty pistachio gelato. You can also order chips and salsa from Mammano-owned, Brockton-based Mi Niña. Advertisement A prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich on house-made focaccia. Suzanne Kreiter/Globe Staff What to drink: In addition to the usual soft drinks, there are sodas from Something & Nothing in flavors such as cucumber and hibiscus-rose, Italian sodas, and La Colombe canned lattes. The takeaway: Gary's Pizza pours many of its high-end restaurant group's existing capabilities into a tiny takeout spot. It sounds like a smart move for them, and it is for us. It's very hard to go wrong with pizza, breads, and desserts made by top-notch chefs. As Mammano says by phone, 'Everybody loves pizza.' 1744 Washington St., South End, Boston, 617-858-0101, . Pizza $5-$7 per slice, $35-$49 per pie; sandwiches $14-$17; salads $12-$16; desserts $3-$14. Cinnamon gelato is among the dessert offerings at Gary's Pizza. As hurricane season approaches, Trump's Winter White House is ready for almost any storm

Hurricane season is afoot, but President Donald Trump's Winter White House is likely ready to withstand any bad storms. The National Hurricane Center in Miami has already started its daily tropical outlooks for the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June 1 to Nov. 30 every year. Earlier this month, Trump's private club, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, closed just after Mother's Day. It reopens in the fall, when the social season begins. Since taking office again in January, Trump has visited his home state of Florida 11 times, with 10 visits to Mar-a-Lago. Even if the president doesn't have to worry about evacuating himself, the estate has withstood every hurricane with minimal damage since its construction in 1927. Here is what to know: Season in review: Palm Beach real estate saw a 'Trump bump' but there was turbulence ahead Mar-a-Lago is something like a fortress. The house is literally rock solid: Concrete and steel anchor the structure to the coral reef below it. Many of the walls are 3 feet thick. 'This place will not move,' the late Tony Senecal, who for years served as Trump's butler at Mar-a-Lago, said in 2005. 'That's why, during a hurricane, you'll always see me here. If it goes, I'll go with it.' Mar-a-Lago's stucco-covered walls have remained standing after every hurricane. In 1928, a massive storm wreaked havoc on South Florida's coast. Most of the damage at Mar-a-Lago was said to be confined to uprooted trees, although there was damage to the mansion's famous Roman-style window. The mansion weathered another hurricane in 1947 that flooded the neighborhood and points south, and washed away much of the coastal road. It also withstood the double whammy of back-to-back Hurricane Frances and Hurricane Jeanne in 2004. 'We lost a lot of the vegetation that gave Mar-a-Lago its character,' Trump told the Palm Beach Post after Hurricane Frances. 'I wasn't there for the storm, but I've been told by my people there that it re-landscaped the place. There was a little flooding in some of the basements, too.' In 2005 came Hurricane Wilma, which surprised locals with its strength when it barreled in from the west. An investigation by the Associated Press in 2016 found little evidence that Hurricane Wilma severely damaged Mar-a-Lago, despite Trump saying in a 2007 court deposition that he had been paid $17 million on an insurance claim after the storm. In September 2017, a part of the main club building sustained roof damage and minor roof leaks when the outer bands of Hurricane Irma swept Palm Beach. In addition, several trees were knocked down and landscaping was thinned along the property's south wall. Town officials at the time confirmed they had received no reports of structural damage to Mar-a-Lago or any building on the island. Post Cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post was Mrs. Edward F. Hutton when she commissioned Marion Sims Wyeth to build her a 58-bedroom Spanish-Moorish-Portuguese-Venetian palace on 17 acres of jungle between the ocean and the Intracoastal. By the time it was finished in 1927, Joseph Urban, a Viennese architect and theater designer, had provided much of the ornamentation. For more than three years, 600 workers labored to build Mar-a-Lago, using boatloads of Italian stone and about 36,000 antique Spanish and Portuguese tiles, as well as old marble floors and roof tiles from Cuba. The estate's 75-foot tower is a South Florida landmark — and a navigational aid to boaters. When she died in 1973, Post gave Mar-a-Lago to the U.S. government for a presidential retreat, but the government balked at its million-dollar-a-year maintenance cost and its location under the Palm Beach International Airport's flight path. In 1985, Donald Trump paid $10 million for the 17-acre estate. It originally boasted 33 bathrooms, three bomb shelters and a nine-hole golf course. Ten years later, Trump updated the already-luxurious estate and converted it into an even-more ritzy private club with a spa, tennis and croquet courts, ballroom and a beach club.
