Trainer with local ties wins the Preakness Stakes with Journalism
BALTIMORE, Md. (WKBN) – Journalism, trained by Michael McCarthy, came roaring back down the back stretch to win the Preakness Stakes at the Pimlico Race Course after finishing runner-up at the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago. McCarthy was born in Youngstown before moving to California during his early childhood. His father Terry was a graduate of Ursuline High School. It's McCarthy's second win at the Preakness Stakes after Rombauer won in 2021. Journalism, ridden by jockey Umberto Rispoli, entered the race as the overall favorite at 6/5 odds.
