Lakeshore and Essex men headed to provincial ‘Truck Roadeo' in September
Municipality of Lakeshore equipment operator, Ron Duquette, is headed to compete at a provincial 'Truck Roadeo' in September after winning at the local level. Shawn Marchand of the Town of Essex is also headed to the provincial level.
Duquette competed and won in the roadeo hosted by the Association of Ontario Road Supervisors (AORS). Marchand secured second.
'The local association was thrilled with the turnout of 34 drivers from area municipalities and are pleased to send Ron and Shawn onto the provincial competition in September,' said Kirby McArdle, AORS representative for the Essex County Municipal Supervisors Association.
'I am thrilled to be the first Lakeshore staff member to win the local event and I'm proud to represent the municipality at the provincial competition,' said Duquette.
The Truck Roadeos are hosted by local AORS chapters every year, promoting safety, courtesy, and professional public works driving skills. This is done in trucks that have snowplows and wings on them. It includes a pre-trip inspection, an obstacle course designed to simulate real-life situations, and a written test.
'On behalf of Council and our communities, congratulations to Ron for his outstanding performance and good luck as he moves on to represent Lakeshore later this year,' said Mayor Tracey Bailey.
'Team Lakeshore members like Ron play a crucial role in keeping our roads and communities safe and we appreciate the work that they do every day.'
Duquette was the top driver locally, scoring 352 out of 395. Marchand came in second with 347.
The provincial competition takes place on Sept. 24, hosted by the Lanark County Road Supervisors Association in Carleton Place.
