The experts have revealed the flowers which you'll want to plant in autumn. According to the pros, the likes of Wallflowers, Dianthus, and Rosa Amirose are well worth having on your radar if you're looking to give your garden a bit of an uplift once the hot summer months have passed.
These rare and unique plants can be difficult to get your hands on, but the good news is that you can avoid disappointment and start pre-ordering your plants now, meaning ample time to plan your displays. Primula: Pretty, pink, compact and long lasting, these early flowering blooms can thrive in a pot by the front door to cheer up a winter's day.
Dendranthema/Chrysanthemum: If you're after plants for late summer or autumn colour, these need to be on your radar, not to mention these long-lasting cut flowers can also fill any gaps in borders!
Rosa Amirose: These colour changing fragrant blooms are pretty special and can be ideal for low-growing groundcover rose. They can have a long flowering season from May to October, not to mention they have good resistance to common rose diseases making them pretty reliable.
The ideal time to plant each one can vary, but these tend to thrive when planted around September/October time. Of course during the summer months, what can be a headache for Brits is having to choose between tending to your garden, or heading off abroad for some guaranteed summer sun (especially as the UK weather doesn't always play ball).
