There's a new 'Rosy's' restaurant in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) —It's been over a month since Rosie's Cafe closed in Sioux Falls. Now, someone is opening a new restaurant in the same area that sports a similar name, but different meals. Just down the street from where Rosie's Cafe was located, you will now find Rosy's Tacos— a new Mexican restaurant. TenHaken wants drivers to 'feel the urge to zipper merge' 'We're gonna be serving more of, like, asada, birria, dorado, chorizo, ground beef and then hopefully a lot more throughout the time,' Rosy's Tacos, Juan Nuno said. 'Our specialty is Birria. I really love it. It's really amazing,' Rosy's Tacos, Ana Nuno said. The name is similar to Rosie's Cafe, but the owner has his own reason for calling his restaurant 'Rosy's', as it's his eldest daughter's name. 'It wasn't my intention to do it, but I mean, I had a food truck out here and when I had the food truck, I named it Rosy's food truck. So when we opened our restaurant, we decided to bring the name down to the restaurant,' Juan said. The Nunos' family wants to bring something to the neighborhood that they think will add to it's charm. 'We don't have much restaurant business close to this side of town, so it's gonna be kind of nice to have something that you can get close to it, You don't have to go all the way down to the other side of town or downtown,' Juan said. 'We hope to bring in a lot of people so that they can expand their palate or that they can see more authentic Hispanic food,' Ana said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Calls for help to Senator Rounds triple as DOGE cuts hit South Dakotans

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Trump administration has said DOGE is targeting waste and fraud in the federal government. However, some of the cuts are impacting South Dakotans. Senator Mike Rounds says his staff saw three times more people reaching out to his office with concerns and questions in the month of February. Rosie's Cafe to close after 41 years Senator Rounds says his office is currently working on 139 different cases involving South Dakotans impacted by cuts being made by Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency. Rounds says waste and fraud need to be rooted out, but he would prefer Doge use a scalpel approach rather than a hammer. Rounds' office has fielded a lot of concerns as Federal Programs are cut back, for instance a nurse called after a National Institutes of Health website for cancer patients was taken down. 'She called in and said what am I supposed to do, I come to work, we've got people who are in cancer treatments and use the protocols on the website and its gone, shut down… help! So we went in and made come contacts and I don't know if it was our office or somebody else's office but, clearly someone was able to get in and the website has been put back up and is operational again,' said Rounds. Senator Rounds cited a lot of misinformation floating around on the internet. For instance concerns that social security could be cut. He is confident that won't happen. 'Nobody is cutting any benefits, anything like that,' said Rounds. 'There have been some cases of fraud and abuse that they are finding. that means more money in the trust fund, remain in the trust fund, those are good things. That's one of the things DOGE has found . But we are not cutting benefits for social security recipients.' As more cuts some in Washington DC, Rounds encourages South Dakotans with concerns to reach out to his office. 'And we will do our best to directly handle those situations on a case by case basis,' he said. While his staff fielded about three times the volume of calls and messages in the month of February, Rounds says some of those were from people wanting to give their input on President Trump's cabinet nominees. He also expects the number of calls for help in March to be higher than normal. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 'National Garden of American Heroes' moving forward

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Black Hills could be the site of a new national monument that would honor great figures of America's history. South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden sent a letter to President Trump Tuesday proposing a location near Mount Rushmore for what's being called the 'National Garden of American Heroes.' Trump actually talked about building this garden five years ago during his speech at Mount Rushmore during the 4th of July fireworks celebration. 'I am signing an executive order to establish the National Garden of American Heroes, a vast outdoor park that will feature the statues of the greatest Americans to ever live,' Trump said. Rosie's Cafe to close after 41 years Governor Rhoden wrote this letter with today's date to President Trump indicating he would like to offer a plot of land in sight of Mount Rushmore that he says would be ideal for this effort. Former Governor Kristi Noem first offered the Black Hills as the site for this garden back in 2020. The family of late businessman Chuck Lien owns 40 acres of land in the Black Hills, which they are willing to donate to the project. Here are some drawings of what the national garden could look like when complete. 'It's the closest privately owned land to Mount Rushmore it's on that iconic tunnel that frames Mount Rushmore and most people probably don't even realize it's privately owned,'daughter Sam Brannan said. President Trump, late in his first term, even signed a series of executive orders to develop preliminary plans for the site. But Congress never funded it. President Joe Biden revoked the executive orders relating to the garden in May 2021 and it never got off the ground. Upon Trump's return to the presidency, he revoked Biden's executive order. So Governor Rhoden wrote in his letter 'although we were not able to get the project accomplished in your previous term, I am confident that we can work together to make it happen in the next four years.' And so is the Lien family. 'This is a time to look at National Garden of American Heroes, because we thought our dad was such an American hero and our mom was an American hero, so it fit with all nine of us so my generous siblings have agreed to this and wanted to offer it back in 2020 and we did, so we did it again now in 2025,' Brannan said. Governor Rhoden says American heroes like George Washington, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Babe Ruth, and other notables from all walks of life will be among those honored in the Garden with statues.
