6 summer outfits to wear with espadrilles, the Royal-approved sandal that's a seasonal staple

Espadrilles have been a staple in my summer wardrobe for as long as I can remember. Though there are some style differences, the classics feature a closed-toe and an often neutral colourway. They're subtly chic, with a wrap-around ankle-tie providing a small dose of interest. Plus, sitting on a stacked woven wedge heel, they're undeniably comfortable. No wonder the likes of Emily Ratajkowski, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Alexa Chung, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are all fans. All in all, they're the most inoffensive sandal trend around (yes, 'ugly shoe' trend, I'm referring to you). But while I appreciate an espadrille's reliability and simplicity, some members of the Cosmo Fashion Team find them predictable, shunning them for these exact same reasons. Well, I'm here to tell you the humble espadrille wedge has had a makeover in 2025. Featuring pretty embroidery, velvet straps in contrasting hues and sculptural silhouettes, they're shaking off their boring connotations and emerging as our go-to shoe this summer for all the events on our calendar. From pub drinks with friends to providing the finishing touch to our summer wedding guest dresses, the 2025 espadrille is cooler, more stylish – but (crucially) just as comfy as the classics. As for what summer outfits we'll be wearing with our espadrille wedges, keep reading for styling inspiration and a sneak peek at the sandals that have caught my eye and earned a spot on my wishlist. What shoes do you wear with a bright tangerine summer dress? Black is too heavy, white is too dated, any other colour could aggressively clash, but an equally zesty orange hue – paired with the neutral woven sole so as not to overwhelm – is just right. Espadrilles are perhaps the ultimate wedding guest shoe – formal enough to go with your dress, but comfy enough to have you on the dance floor all night long. We love the idea of pairing a floral dress with espadrilles featuring floral embroidery. Don't worry about matching the flower motifs perfectly as long as your dress and shoes have shared colours in their designs. Wide-leg jeans sometimes require a little height to help balance out the proportions of extra fabric and ensure the most flattering of fits, but who wants to wear heels out and about? Enter: the espadrille wedge, ideal for weekends spent standing in pub gardens. Not a lover of colour? No shade, some of us just prefer to stick to a wardrobe of minimal black, white and neutral colourways. But, if you do want to add just a little colour pop to an outfit, a bright, statement pair of shoes is an easy way to do so. We love these Penelope Chilvers wedges that feature velvet ribbons woven through the shoe in a slightly different shade of pink for even more colour, while still feeling subtle. Falling into the same category as linen trousers, Bermuda shorts are the fashion set's favourite summer shorts thanks to their versatility and comfort. Fitting, then, that they pair perfectly with espadrilles. Add this look to your summer workwear rotation and prepare to be crowned best-dressed employee. I *love* how Castañer have toughened up the shoe with a black leather upper. So cool. AKA Kate Middleton's tried and tested go-to outfit formula. You know what they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Well, if it's good enough for the Princess of Wales all these years later, we're taking that as a green light to wear this look in 2025. Celebrities Are Using This One Accessory To Make Their Outfits Better Right Now

What do Elsa Hosk, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Dua Lipa have in common? Aside from their super successful careers, of course, they also have the same taste in accessories. Recently, they have all been spotted wearing Déhanche - a brand fashion editors were quietly hoping to keep under wraps for just a little while longer. An alternative to some of the more obvious designer belt styles on the market (like the super-popular logo belts from Gucci and Hermès), Déhanche's success marks a departure from this with a more refined and, well, 2025 take. ©Instagram/@iamjessicafay Hollyhock Embellished Leather Belt Déhanche's best-selling belt, the Hollyhock, is made from smooth leather and has a buckle fastening that is more elevated than your average belt with a row of rings. Available in multiple different colours, as well as metals, the belt is perfect for adding to wide-leg trousers and jeans. I also own the Hollyhock style, and can attest to its excellence - it feels so weighty and is obviously very well-crafted. The only thing I would advise is to size up or use the online size guide - I found the belt comes up a little smaller than usual. Founded in 2022, Déhanche ('hanches' is the French word for hips) has crept into the highest echelon of celebrity wardrobes with the mission to turn belts (an accessory that was once just purely functional) into something far more interesting. Traditionally, belts have always been steeped in drama - whether you think of a grommeted style from the '70s and '80s, or Carrie Bradshaw's studded Streets Ahead belt in Sex And The City . Déhanche taps into the spirit of both, building its brand around conscious consumerism - proving that you don't need to put your entire wardrobe on Vinted when the trends or seasons change - instead, all you need is one well-designed belt. Two of the most popular Déhanche styles are the Hollyhock and the Revenge belt (they also form part of the permanent collection - otherwise the brand only releases four limited-edition drops a year) - the latter of which was seen on Dua Lipa. Meanwhile, the Hollyhock, Déhanche's debut style, is among one of the most popular, not only on the brand's website, but also my Instagram feed too - it popped up so many times that it quickly became not a case of if I'd get the belt, but when . Revenge Embellished Leather Belt Dua Lipa's go-to belt is the Revenge style, which is finished with eyelets that are threaded with rings. The brand says the belt exudes a kind of 'rebellious punk spirit' because of its slightly more avant garde design. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, a long-time lover of refined, tonal dressing, has become especially loyal to Déhanche's Valadon belt - a thin, but contoured leather belt that speaks to her less-is-more philosophy. Valadon Leather Belt One of Déhanche's more subtle styles, the Valadon Leather Belt features a chic sliding buckle and a slim profile that means it can be either worn with trousers or in the middle of a maxi dress. Plus, it's on sale too. We're in the middle of a transition when it comes to the way we dress. Quiet luxury has started to waver, making way for a return to playfulness in the form of gingham, polka dots and plenty of boho ruffles – just three trends that have dominated the beginning of this year. Déhanche's success, however, shows that there's still an appetite for chic well-made pieces that will stand the test of time. Constance Leather Belt If you're on the hunt for a Déhanche belt that's smaller and more subtle, the Constance style is a good option. Ideal for cinching the waist of blazers or making a slip dress look less oversized and more fitted. Orbite Leather Waist Belt The Orbite belt is named after its circular statement-making gold buckle that won't overpower an outfit, but will add to it. Best styled around a neutral blazer or satin midi dress, simply add a pair of kitten heels and gold earrings and you're good to go. Meri Leather Waist Belt For a slightly cooler Déhanche belt, look to the Meri Belt, which has gold hammered hardware detailing in the place of a classic buckle. If you prefer your accessories in a lighter colour for summer, the same style is also available in an ivory shade. Jolinard Leather Belt The Jolinard style is another one that's on sale, currently with 40% off. If you like the chunkiness of the Revenge belt but want a belt that's slightly more pared-back, the Jolinard is somewhere in the middle - with thick gold hardware and '80s and '90s influences. Burberry warns staff their jobs will not be safe if they work at a certain time of day amidst job cuts

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) BURBERRY has pinned its revival on 'timeless British luxury', while telling staff their jobs will not be safe if they work at a certain time of day. The fashion house yesterday said it would be culling 1,700 jobs as part of a radical cost-cutting strategy in the face of losses and slumping sales. Bosses admitted that the firm would also be culling its entire night shift workforce at its Castleford factory in West Yorks. Around 150 workers there will lose their jobs, despite Burberry announcing a tie-up with King Charles' Highgrove estate to make £2,490 limited edition trench coats. CEO Joshua Schulman, who was sent in to Burberry ten months ago to spearhead a turnaround, yesterday said the changes were needed 'to maintain the long-term viability of UK manufacturing'. He added: 'We want to reiterate our commitment to making trench coats here in the UK.' Mr Schulman has recently launched his turnaround based on Burberry's heritage products. But he has also tried to make the brand more accessible with cheaper items, such as £450 bikinis as modelled by Rosie Huntington- Whiteley and £320 bucket hats, as worn by tennis star Jack Draper. Burberry said it wanted to cut costs by £100million after swinging to a £66million loss in the year to April. A year earlier it had profits of £383million. Shares in Burberry still rose 8.93 per cent to 900.63p yesterday as investors welcomed the cost-cutting. 'My bargain of the day' cries shopper after finding 'adorable' Burberry skirt in charity shop for £6 The brand has been battered by a slowdown in consumer spending in China, nervousness in the US and an ill-fated move into streetwear fashions, which alienated its discerning wealthy shoppers. Burberry, which used to rely on China for 40 per cent of its sales, said they fell by 16 per cent in Asia Pacific, while in America they were down by 9 per cent and in Europe they fell by 8 per cent. The firm also repeated its call for the UK Government to scrap the so-called tourist tax, which it says has made Britain a less attractive shopping destination in relation to its European peers. Mr Schulman said: 'We would love the UK to be an attractive destination. The withdrawal of UK tax-free shopping heaped additional pressure on the UK and we would welcome the repeal of that.' Co-op to recover THE CO-OP yesterday said its shops will be back to normal by the weekend — two weeks after it was hit by a cyber attack. Pictures of empty shelves have circulated on social media after the food retailer's deliveries were disrupted and its IT systems went down. Co-op — targeted by the same gang as Marks & Spencer — now insists that it is in the 'recovery phase'. Two weeks ago, it revealed hackers had accessed its data. DHL has a smaller presence in the UK but will take a minority stake in Evri, which is owned by equity firm Apollo. Separately, InPost reported a 39 per cent rise in parcel volumes while revenues rose by a fifth to £585million. InPost, which recently bought Yodel, has 16,000 lockers across the UK and has benefited from Brits using it to buy and sell via platforms such as Vinted, as well as retailers. Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky, who sealed his £3.6billion takeover of Royal Mail last month, has said he wants to roll-out InPost-style lockers to his new purchase. Direct to probe AVIVA's £3.7billion takeover of rival insurer Direct Line has been referred for a probe by the competition authority. The insurer announced its takeover in December and received approval from shareholders in March. But it has taken until now for the Competition and Markets Authority to open its 'Phase One' investigation — looking at whether it will result in a 'substantial lessening' of competition. It comes as the Government says it wants the regulator to 'drive investor confidence and support economic growth'. BA AI boost BRITISH AIRWAYS' £7billion investment in tech and artificial intelligence has helped boost punctuality. Two thirds of Heathrow departures left ahead of time in April, double 2023 figures. The airline has 100 data scientists helping flyers catch their flights. Pawn is taken PAWNBROKER H&T Group is the latest British firm to be snapped up by an overseas rival, after agreeing to a £297million takeover. Shares soared yesterday by 40 per cent to 644p after it revealed US suitor First Cash made its first approach in December and made three more offers before a fourth cash proposal at 661p-a-share. H&T, which has 285 shops across the UK, has recently toasted a boom in revenues on the back of record-high gold prices as squeezed Brits cash in their jewellery.

'By partnering with global icons like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, [we continue] to reinforce [our] leadership in the pre-loved luxury space, proving that second-hand fashion can be just as desirable as new." Huntington-Whiteley added: 'Fashion has always been a meaningful part of my career, and I love that this collaboration allows me to extend that impact while contributing to a cause that helps young people build their futures.' She joins other influential figures featuring in its exclusive closet sales including Paris Hilton, Jessica Chastain, Laura Dern, and Chloe Finemans. Net proceeds will go directly to The King's Trust UK, the non-profit organisation dedicated to helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
