Pensions insurer Rothesay joins suitors for O2 ground rent deal

Britain's biggest pensions insurance specialist has joined the race to buy the 999-year lease of the O2, London's best-known entertainment venue. Sky News has learnt that Rothesay, which has more than £70bn of assets under management, is among the bidders for the long-term income stream generated by the arena in North Greenwich. Rothesay and the Universities Superannuation Scheme - along with a small number of undisclosed bidders - are participating in an auction being run by Eastdil, the real estate-focused investment bank. None of the parties has secured exclusivity, although insiders suggested such a development was unlikely to be far away. Money blog: Millions of Nationwide customers to receive £100 Rothesay has become one of Britain's most successful specialist insurers, having been established in 2007. It now protects the pensions of more than 1m people in Briton and makes more than £300m in pension payouts every month. The auction of the O2's ground rent has been under way for several months, with Sky News having revealed by Cambridge University's wealthiest college. Trinity College, which ranks among Britain's biggest landowners, acquired the site in 2009 for a reported £24m. The O2, which shrugged off its "white elephant" status in the aftermath of its disastrous debut as the Millennium Dome in 2000, has since become one of the world's leading entertainment venues. Operated by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), it has played host to a wide array of music, theatrical and sporting events over nearly a quarter of a century. Trinity College, which was founded by Henry VIII in 1546, bought the O2 lease from Lend Lease and Quintain, the property companies which had taken control of the Millennium Dome site in 2002 for nothing. A spokesman for Rothesay declined to comment.

Kate Middleton Breaks Whisky Bottle in Ship Naming Tradition on Scotland Trip with Prince William

Kate Middleton and Prince William have shipped up to Scotland. The Prince and Princess of Wales stepped out at the BAE Systems' shipyard in Scotstoun, Glasgow, on May 22, where Kate had a special duty. After being appointed as the sponsor of HMS Glasgow, a state-of-the-art anti-submarine frigate, in June 2021, Princess Kate took part in the Royal Navy ship's official naming ceremony. Stepping up to a microphone, the Princess of Wales said, "I have the pleasure to name this ship: HMS Glasgow. May God bless her and all who sail on her." Kate then pressed a button that released a bottle of whisky, which broke against the ship's hull in a naming tradition and prompted applause from the crowd gathered. Following the ceremony, the royal couple went aboard the ship and met representatives leading the delivery of the ship, apprentices and graduates of the Shipbuilding Academy and Royal Navy members, who discussed the ship's construction and capabilities. In 2022, Princess Kate met Royal Navy sailors from HMS Glasgow at Windsor Castle to hear about the progress of work being done on the ship. Prince William, 42, and Princess Kate, 43, recently visited Scotland — where they go by the titles of Duke and Duchess of Rothesay — in April, celebrating their 14th wedding anniversary in the country where they first met and fell in love. The pair first crossed paths as college students at the University of St. Andrews. Can't get enough of PEOPLE's Royals coverage? to get the latest updates on Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and more! One day before the ship naming outing, Prince William had a solo engagement in Scotland on May 21, visiting the Leith Community Centre, where he showed off his soccer skills and was gifted a piece of artwork supporting his favorite team, Aston Villa. Earlier in the week, the Prince and Princess of Wales stepped out together to help host a Buckingham Palace garden party. Read the original article on People

William and Kate reveal where they'll spend their wedding anniversary

The Prince and Princess of Wales will spend their 14th wedding anniversary helping the community of Mull in the Scottish Highlands. They are due to arrive in the Inner Hebrides on 29 April - the day of their wedding at Westminster Abbey in 2011. The couple, known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when in Scotland, will begin their visit in the town of Tobermory, where the children's television series Balamory was filmed. Their Royal Foundation will announce a partnership to support and develop two community spaces on Mull. Mull is part of lands once ruled by the Lord of the Isles, one of a number of Scottish titles William inherited from his father when Charles became King. The couple, who have been together for more than 20 years, met at the University of St Andrews and were friends before beginning a relationship. Their first child, Prince George, was born in 2013, followed by Princess Charlotte in 2015 and Prince Louis in 2018. Kate returned to work following treatment for cancer last September. Earlier that month she released a video saying she had finished chemotherapy and was "focused on staying cancer free". During the trip to Mull, they will visit a hall that serves as a community hub and tour the Tobermory producers' market at the town's harbour. They will also visit a croft and restaurant on the west coast, see the Hebridean sheep farmed on the 50-acre site, and help to select garden produce for the menu. On the final day they will meet countryside rangers from the Mull and Iona Ranger Service at the Ardura Community Forest, join a school group as they take part in outdoor learning, and meet Ardura Acorns, an early years outdoor learning play group that includes nature trails, den-building and animal tracking.
