Who is Ruchi Gujjar? Actress booked for hitting producer with her sandal at Solang Valley premiere

Ruchi Gujjar, an emerging actress and model, is making waves online following a dramatic episode at the premiere of the film Solang Valley. After grabbing attention at Cannes 2025 with a necklace showcasing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's face, she is now in the spotlight for reportedly assaulting producer Karan Singh with her sandal amid a Rs23 lakh financial dispute. The incident has gone viral, leaving many wondering who she is and what triggered the heated confrontation. Who is Ruchi Gujjar? Actress booked for hitting producer Ruchi Gujjar is an Indian actress and model hailing from Mehara Gujarwas village in Rajasthan. A graduate of Maharani College in Jaipur, she belongs to a traditional Gujjar family where women rarely pursue careers in entertainment. After being crowned Miss Haryana 2023, she shifted from modeling to acting and gained popularity through music videos such as Jab Tu Meri Na Rahi, Heli Mein Chor, and Ek Ladki, in which she appeared with actor Aman Verma. At the 78th Cannes Film Festival, she made headlines for wearing a striking necklace featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi's face, complemented by a traditional Rajasthani gold lehenga and Bandhani dupatta. Why did Ruchi hit the producer at Solang Valley premiere? On July 24, 2025, Ruchi Gujjar lodged an FIR at Mumbai's Oshiwara Police Station, alleging that producer Karan Singh Chauhan and the So Long Valley team defrauded her of Rs 23 lakh by falsely promising a TV project, a share in profits, and screen credits, all of which never came through. The following day, during the film's premiere, she confronted the producers, slapping and hitting them with her sandal, a moment that was captured on video and quickly went viral. Accompanied by protestors demanding the film's release be halted until she was paid, Ruchi now faces charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including assault, criminal intimidation, and obstruction, according to NDTV. Gujjar's lawyer stated that a separate FIR for assault would be filed against Karan Singh at the Amboli police station. In response to the incident, director Man Singh accused Ruchi Gujjar of orchestrating a 'publicity stunt.' He claimed that Gujjar had previously attempted to halt the film's release, but the court ruled in the makers' favour and allowed it to go ahead. 'Ruchi Gujjar and Karan Singh are well acquainted. If she truly paid any money to Karan for the film, she should present proof. This is nothing more than a publicity stunt,' he added.

Filtration in districts, wastewater treatment in Lahore to be boosted

The Punjab government has launched initiatives to install nearly 1,000 filtration plants across the province and develop wastewater treatment facilities in Lahore. The project for the installation of 963 water filtration plants across various districts, including Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan, was approved in meeting chaired by Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin. The initiative also includes surface water treatment systems and the construction of small dams in the Pothohar region to improve access to safe drinking water. Punjab Saaf Pani Authority CEO Naveed Ahmed briefed the participants on the progress of ongoing and upcoming clean water projects. He emphasised that transparency and merit would be ensured during project implementation. To cut operational costs, many facilities will be converted to solar energy. Minister Yasin noted that new water supply projects will be launched annually. The meeting was also attended by the authority's Operations and Maintenance Director General Zohaib Butt and Projects DG Aamir Khaleeq. Separately, in a bid to prevent the discharge of untreated sewage into the Ravi River, the government has planned the construction of smart wastewater treatment plants in Lahore. This initiative was discussed in a meeting chaired by Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal. Lahore Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director Ghaffran Ahmed said six wastewater treatment plants are proposed at key outfall locations in the city. In the first phase, work will begin on facilities at Babu Sabu and Kattar Bund. The Babu Sabu wastewater treatment plant is expected to cost approximately Rs60 billion, while the Kattar Bund facility will require around Rs23 billion.

Lodha Developers pre-sales dull, but business development activity remains solid

Realty company Lodha Developers Ltd's latest business update didn't excite the Street. Pre-sales or bookings rose 10% year-on-year to ₹4,450 crore in Q1FY26. This growth rate is lower than its full-year growth guidance of 20%. Thus, the stock fell 1.5% on Tuesday. According to the management, geopolitical tensions in the first half of the quarter led to loss of activity for around two weeks. But the management is confident of recovering the loss in the latter part of the year. Lodha remains on track to achieve its FY26 pre-sales guidance of ₹21,000 crore, aided by a strong launch pipeline on the back of significant business development achieved in Q1FY26, it said. In line with the pre-sales trajectory, collections rose 7% year-on-year to ₹2,880 crore but fell sequentially. The management expects collections to be significantly higher in H2FY26 versus H1FY26. On the business development front, Lodha added five new projects across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Pune, and Bengaluru with gross development value (GDV) or revenue potential of ₹22,700 crore. This is more than 90% of its full-year business development guidance of Rs25,000 crore. Analysts at Nuvama Research expect Lodha to exceed its business development guidance in FY26 just like it did in FY25. Lodha had added ten new projects (excluding digital infra) in FY25 with a GDV of around Rs23,700 crore, beating its target of new project additions worth Rs21,000 crore. However, Lodha will have to clock around 22% year-on-year growth in pre-sales during Q2–Q4FY26 to meet its FY26 pre-sales target, said the Nuvama report dated 7 July. Meanwhile, strong business development activities and continued approvals for ongoing projects led to net debt inch-up by around ₹1,090 crore sequentially to ₹5,080 crore at Q1FY26-end. As of now, key leverage metric–net debt-to-equity ratio–remains below the company's target of 0.5x, but movement in debt will be closely watched. Also Read: Why Macrotech is upbeat about its prospects even as India's realty market braces for a slowdown Lodha's shares are down around 3% so far in 2025 versus Nifty Realty index's 8% drop. The stock's performance can revive meaningfully on pre-sales picking up from hereon and timely new launches. Geographical diversification and the pace of land monetisation at Palava are also seen as other potential triggers. Remember, in its Q4FY25 earnings call, the management had said that it plans to enter a new city in FY26. On the flipside, an industry-specific challenge is emerging as rising home prices have made affordability a growing concern for buyers. This is feared to lead to demand moderation for residential units in key markets.
