Michael Beale named by Hull owner in manager search update

The Tigers need a new boss after sacking Ruben Selles despite the Spaniard keepign them in the Championship after taking over midway through the campaign. Former Rangers manager Beale has been in the running and it was reported he was in discussions with the Yorkshire outfit. Owner Acun Ilicali has now confirmed that but appeared to play down suggestions the 44-year-old was a frontrunner, insisting there are others in the frame along with Beale and Emre Belozoglu. Ilicali told Hull Live: "I don't want to mention too much about the possibility of the managers because I don't feel good when I'm talking about managers on behalf of the managers, like it is possible, it is not possible. I believe all the managers we are talking to are very good managers. I think Emre is a top manager. Michael Beale, when you speak to him, you understand that he knows so much about the game. "We have football minds in the club that will decide about this manager, and I cannot say at the moment to you that this one is like this or this one is like this. "What I can say is that I'm very hopeful to finish the deal in one week. "Yes (there are other potential candidates), because you only hear about two of our candidates." There has been a bit of debate around whether Beale could return to Ibrox should Steven Gerrard land the manager's job after the pair worked together at the club previously.

'I want results & entertaining football'

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali says he wants to have stability at the club but does not view changing managers as a Tigers, who avoided relegation from the Championship on goal difference this season, sacked Ruben Selles last week, just six months after the Spaniard replaced Tim Walter."People say consistency is very important and I agree, of course it is good to go along with your coach," he told BBC Radio Humberside."We have changed too many, that's true. But who can say that changing coaches too much is killing a club?"He added: "Nottingham Forest changed nine coaches in four or five years and now they maybe go to the Champions League, which is my dream."Ilicali sacked Liam Rosenior last May after the East Yorkshire side had finished seventh in the Championship and has also sacked Grant McCann and Shota Arveladze since taking over in January the Turkish entrepreneur was asked about criticism that they were becoming like fellow second tier side Watford, who have not started and ended a calendar year with the same manager since 2010, he said: "I wish I was the new Watford because they have been to the Premier League."Rosenior led Strasbourg to a seventh-placed finish in Ligue 1 this season but Ilicali defended his decision to sack him."We won two home games between January and May so I wanted to change," he said."I want results and entertaining football. We had to change because we din't have the results and we didn't have entertaining football but some of the fans didn't want to change and I respect that." Ilicali said that he could not be "satisfied" at only just avoiding relegation and with the fact Selles' side did not score two goals from open play in the same game in any of their final eight matches."Ruben is a fantastic guy and a good coach but at the end of the day we have to be a team together and trust each other and if we don't have the full trust then I don't think it can last," he said."We're happy we stayed in the league but I'm not happy about the general picture."I don't make this kind of decision by myself. We have a football team and everyone was in agreement and on the same page." Five candidates for new boss Reports have linked the Tigers with a move for Antalyaspor manager Emre former Newcastle midfielder was given a two-and-a-half-month suspended prison sentence for racially abusing Trabzonspor midfielder Didier Zokora in a match against Fenerbahce in 44-year-old was also accused of racism three times during his spell in the Premier League between 2005 and who is also vice-president of Fenerbahce, said he did not believe Emre was racist but would not proceed with looking to appoint him if the fans were against him being hired."I love my fans and they are very important. If our fans are very against a coach then why should I make them unhappy of course?" he added."Emre is a candidate but I leave it to their heart. I will not push against them. I am here to make them happy."Ilicali said the club had five candidates and that they hoped to have a new head coach in place in 10 days time.

'Even Watford are laughing at us' - Hull fans have their say on Selles departure

We asked you what you made of the decision to relieve Ruben Selles of his duties, despite guiding Hull City to Championship safety on the final day of the a selection of responses from Tigers City, and Ilicali, need to get things right for next season: recruit a manager with experience of the Championship, recruit the right players - quality over quantity, release/sell the expensive underperforming players and then allow for a sustained period of stability. Success takes (a long) time in I would have given him 10 games to see how it panned out with signings in this transfer window. The owner needs to stop the merry-go-round with managers and let a team gel and get used to his style of Tells you something when the Watford fans are laughing at you. Another promising young manager sacked by Acun. He needs to be careful, he can soon go from "hero to villain" and is already losing W: Teams today want instant success. I think Ruben was doing ok, he achieved Championship survival which was clearly the aim and I believe with a bit of backing (money wise) he could transform Hull's fortunes. He did superbly at Reading and I believe given more time would have done alright at Hull. It's a very tough and demanding league. Whoever gets the job next will need financial backing. Good luck in your next position C: Should have given Selles more time. To enable him to produce his own squad. They need to appoint a manager with EFL experience and not some inept It was on the cards - after last season coming seventh the owner made his views clear that he was aiming to be in the Premier League. Regardless of the problems that the team had this season they should have finished in a better Terrible, terrible decision. The best way to ruin a club is uncertainty and for the second year running we will be going into the summer with no identity and nothing to build on. Players can't look at a growing project (eg Selles') and buy into it but instead have to take a punt and that will hurt us in the window. It's a bad blunder and will send us to League One at this Three managers in 12 months is shocking for us. Acun needs to have a look at himself and realise that what he's doing isn't benefiting the club. In my opinion, Acun They should never have sacked Rosenior. Hull City's owners make the same mistakes over and over again, and I don't see that We needed a change, he kept playing the wrong formation of 4-3-2-1. When he played 4-3-3 we played better and even There was little evidence to suggest improvement was on the way. More of the same was an uninspiring prospect. Change was He joined in December, and we were bottom three. Was he pretty? No. But at the end of the day we're playing Championship football next season and for that I think Selles deserved the summer and start of next season. I don't know what Acun wants. First Rosenior for "football philosophy" and now this. It's unrealistic, he wants a promotion fast, like the rest of us. But does he think the way to get it is by trying manager after manager until we win the league? Instead of being realistic and building a brand with a young manager we already had in Selles or even We uproot the entire management team and playing squad year on year. It's insanity. There is zero stability at the club at the minute and as good as Acun has been for the club he is also everything wrong with it at the Deserved a chance to build a team. Forced to make do, hence the style of football but did what he had to do without Once again we are in no man's land. We need an experienced Championship manager and not a foreign import. We missed out not getting Mark Robins in. Watch Stoke city go next season. He knows what is needed. Selles will not be missed, very poor manager. Don't make the same mistake I don't get it. Surely we don't start again with another manager. Who will want the job with the owner's track record? Lots of names out there but please don't give us another Tim Walter. A proven manager would be great but I don't want a dinosaur like Tony Mowbray. Dyche is ok, Potter is ok.... let's see.

Fans threaten to boycott as ex-Newcastle star considered for Championship job

Hull City are searching for a new manager after controversially sacking Ruben Selles despite him saving them from relegation to League One, with fans threatening to revolt Hull City fans are threatening to boycott the club if they appoint former Newcastle star Emre Belozoglu as their new boss. The Tigers sacked Ruben Selles on Thursday, despite guiding them to safety having taken over with the club rock bottom of the Championship. Emre has emerged as a surprise contender for the job despite his only management experience being in his native Turkey. He spent two years with İstanbul Başakşehir before a short stint at Ankaragücü and is now in charge of Antalyaspor. ‌ He is yet to win a major honour as a manager, with his current club finishing in the bottom half of the Turkish Super Lig this season. The 44-year-old did have a more exotic playing career, including stints at Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and Newcastle. ‌ He endured a rocky time at St James' Park, being the subject of three different allegations of racism towards opposition players. The Football Association cleared him in all three incidents. Emre was though handed a suspended prison sentence in 2014 for a racial slur he used against Ivorian midfielder Didier Zokora during a match two years earlier. His sentence was suspended because the court said there were no previous offences and a belief that he would not repeat his behaviour. According to HullLive, the news that Emre has been linked with the vacant job has gone down like a lead balloon among fans. There has been widespread anger on social media towards the links with Emre. And it is claimed 'legions of supporters' have even threatened to boycott games should he be appointed. There are also potential ramifications from sponsors and corporate clients if Emre takes charge. Hull owner Acun Ilicali has held talks with former the former Magpie. He is understood to be one of two leading candidates to become Hull's fifth permanent manager since January 2022. ‌ Owner Ilicali has confirmed that that Emre is in the running. But he has insisted that the former Turkey international is not as close to being appointed as had been claimed. "Emre is not in the front line of our candidates," the owner told BBC Sport. "We have four plus one candidates for our manager's position. There are some from Europe, England, and Emre is one of them. "He's one of the candidates; nothing more than that. He is not [in] front, just at the moment we will make interviews. The main reason [for sacking Selles], if you ask me, our target was never to stay in the league. "We have to be a team, together, and everybody has to trust each other. And if we don't have the full trust of our future, I don't think it can last."
