Sisters lead fight in H'bag, mobilise locals to clean reservoirs
1 2 Hazaribag: On July 16, 2023, Anjali Neeraj (28) and her sister Ruchi (24) formed Vasudha Kalyan Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed at mobilising citizens to fight the growing plastic menace in Hazaribag. Nearly two years later, the sisters have removed 50,000 kg plastic waste from different reservoirs of the city. The sisters said their objective is to connect with the youth, educate them and raise awareness on a green mission which includes turning the city's tourist spots and reservoirs plastic free and initiating a plantation drive. Anjali is a lecturer of English at Inter Science College, Jabra, whereas her sister Ruchi is pursuing a master's in Botany from St. Xavier's College in Ranchi. "We began our initiative with seven volunteers in 2023, and the number has now reached 200. All of our volunteers are college students from Hazaribag and other neighbouring districts," they said. "People pollute surroundings with plastic but hesitate to clean it. So, every Sunday, we hold drive to clean and collect plastic from water bodies, tourist spots. The majority waste we often find are plastic bottles, wrappers of different eatables, chips packets, and empty liquor bottles," Anjali said. Through such campaigns, the waste collected is sold to kabadiwalas, and the amount generated is used for procurement of protective gears for volunteers during their drives. "Through this mission, we are trying to generate awareness regarding environmental changes and call for people's participation," she said, adding that slowly people of all age groups are slowly joining them in weekly drives. Their first initiative was to clean Lara River, a popular tourist spot 20 km away from Hazaribag. Then, the drive was held at Canary Hill, and so on. A native of Bakagaon block and presently living in Baba Path mohalla of the city, Anjali said they have freed six places, including reservoirs, from plastic waste, including Chhath Talab, Hurhuru Talab, Budhwa Mahadev Talab, Hazaribag Jheel, Canary Hill, and Lara River. "We keep cleaning all these places again and again by including them in our list of Sunday campaigns," she added. Last year, during World Environment Day, the United Nations Environment Program praised their work at a program in Ranchi by awarding a certificate of appreciation. Anjali said, "We are a youth-driven action team for the environment, which is essential for ecological balance, improves air quality, and promotes biodiversity."

Woman who lost 20 kg shares 10 surprising foods she completely cut out to lose weight: Breakfast cereals to granola bars
Struggling to lose weight despite eating healthy and working out? Sometimes, it's not just about what you add to your plate but what you take off it. Nutritionist Ruchi Sharma shared in her May 28 Instagram post the top 10 foods she stopped eating to lose 20 kg and how these changes helped her feel lighter, healthier and more in control. "Losing weight wasn't just about sweating in the gym or hitting 10k steps daily. Most people focus on what to add, but what you remove matters just as much," says Ruchi. (Also read: Nutritionist explains how protein-rich snacks can maintain weight and support heart health: 'Avoid mindless munching' ) A post shared by Ruchi Sharmma | Nutrition, Health & lifestyle coach! (@ 1. Flavoured coffee drinks: What Ruchi once considered a go-to "treat" actually contained more sugar than a doughnut. 2. Breakfast cereals: Even the so-called "healthy" options caused her cravings to spike well before noon. 3. Packaged juices: She thought they were a vitamin boost but realised they were just liquid sugar in disguise. 4. Granola bars: Essentially candy wrapped up with a nutrition label, offering little real benefit. 5. Low-fat packaged foods: Removing fat often meant adding artificial ingredients and preservatives she wanted to avoid. 6. Naan and white bread: Instead of feeling full and satisfied, these left her hungrier and more tempted to snack. 7. Bottled sauces and dressings: A hidden sugar trap she had never considered before, which added unnecessary calories. 8. "Healthy" late-night snacks: Even protein bars and nuts can add up quickly when eaten mindlessly. 9. Fast food salads: Loaded with creamy dressings, these were often worse for the diet than a burger. 10. Energy drinks: They disrupt sleep, appetite, and ultimately hinder fat loss progress. "Once I cut these, my body finally started responding. No more energy crashes. No more feeling "starved" on a diet. Just steady, effortless fat loss. Now, I don't just "eat clean." I eat strategically. Instead of forcing myself to eat less, I focused on removing the foods that kept me: stuck, triggered cravings, spiked my blood sugar, or made me feel sluggish. So, if you're struggling to lose weight despite doing everything "right," start by auditing your plate. You might be shocked at what's sneaking into your diet. Who is Ruchi Gujjar? Meet the woman who wore the viral PM Modi necklace at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival
Designed with traditional Rajasthani motifs, the necklace combined heritage with a powerful modern symbol. It instantly went viral, sparking curiosity across platforms. Ruchi's lehenga, created by designer Roopa Sharmaa, was a deep gold ensemble richly embroidered with Gota Patti, mirror work, and intricate hand detailing. It reflected the regal artistry of Rajasthan, her home state. Completing the ensemble was a handcrafted Bandhani dupatta from the atelier of Zaribari, designed by Ram, and finished with ornate Zardozi embellishments. 'Wearing this dupatta felt like I was draping the soul of Rajasthan,' she said. Beyond the glamour, Ruchi Gujjar is carving a path in India's entertainment industry. A graduate of Maharani College in Jaipur, she moved to Mumbai to pursue her cinematic dreams. Now a model, actor, and former Miss Haryana 2023, she's most popularly known for her appearances in music videos like Jab Tu Meri Na Rahi and Heli Mein Chor. Her journey, however, hasn't been an easy one. Raised in a Gujjar family from Rajasthan, Ruchi had to challenge deep-seated cultural expectations to pursue a career in showbiz. 'Since I belong to a Gujjar family, there, women are not allowed to work as I am working,' she said in an interview with BollywoodMDB. 'It was difficult to change how people think about women working in Bollywood. I want to be an inspiration in our community, who fought against the will of people's thoughts. And I am the only one from my community who has come so far in the Bollywood industry.' A post shared by Ruchi Gujjar (@ruchigujjarofficial) She also opened up about the role her family played — especially her father — in helping her navigate the leap from a conservative hometown to the sets of Mumbai. 'My mother was very scared when I said I wanted to go to Mumbai to work in Bollywood; however, she's quite proud of me that I've come so far. My father has always been very supportive since day one, now my entire family are supporting me,' she said. Now, with a few music videos under her belt and growing recognition, Ruchi is setting her sights even higher. 'I want to work in South movies since audiences love them, and I'd love to work in South movies,' she said. Ruchi's Modi necklace may have made headlines for its boldness, but for her, it was more than a fashion statement — it was a message. She further explained, 'Prime Minister Modi has redefined India's image across the world. I wanted to carry that pride with me, and this necklace was my tribute to his leadership. Representing Rajasthan and India at Cannes is not just a moment for me—it's a message to the world about who we are.' What do you think about this outfit?
