HBO Max just dropped a teaser trailer for new Mark Ruffalo crime thriller, ‘Task' — and it looks like a must-watch
HBO Max has just dropped a teaser for 'Task,' a new crime show from Brad Ingelsby, the creator of 'Mare of Easttown.' Frankly, that in of itself should be enough to put 'Task' on your radar. 'Mare of Easttown' was rightly branded as appointment viewing back in 2021, and the HBO streaming service is poised to bring us back to Pennsylvania. This time, it's not a small-town murder investigation, nor is Kate Winslet in the frame; "Task" instead sees MCU star Mark Ruffalo helming an FBI task force and hunting down a violent gang. With Guns N' Roses' 'Patience' setting a somber tone, the 'Task' teaser trailer tees up an intriguing, murky tale. Ruffalo's FBI agent is to helm a new task force (comprised, as he notes, primarily of inexperienced officers) to find and thwart a crew of violent, masked home invaders who've already carried out hits on nine homes. There are snatches of family life, awkward conversations, and a quick taste of some of the action that's coming our way — on-foot chases, shootouts, and a car tumbling down a hill — too. And with that background sketched, we build up to Ruffalo's team sweeping a building, with him on one side of a door… and armed family man/home invasion crew leader (Tom Pelphrey) on the other. Is this teaser setting up a violent end for one of our leads? We'll have to wait and see. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Looking forward to 'Task'? You won't have to wait too much longer to check it out; HBO Max has confirmed that Brad Ingelsby's crime series will debut on HBO and HBO Max in September (an exact release date has not been confirmed at the time of writing), and new episodes will air on a weekly basis. HBO has shared a logline for the series, but it doesn't give much more info away about the show. It reads: 'Set in the working class suburbs of Philadelphia, an FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo) heads a Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man (Tom Pelphrey).' In addition to Ruffalo and Pelphrey, we know 'Task' also stars Emilia Jones, Jamie McShane, Sam Keeley, Thuso Mbedu, Fabien Frankel, Alison Oliver, Raúl Castillo, Silvia Dionicio, Phoebe Fox, and Martha Plimpton. Mireille Enos also has a recurring role in the series. Creator and writer Brad Ingelsby will also serve as 'Task' showrunner, and the series has been directed by Jeremiah Zagar and Salli Richardson-Whitfield. Need something new to watch while you wait for 'Task' to air? Be sure to check out our round-up of the best shows on HBO Max for tons more streaming recommendations. "Mare of Easttown" fans might also want to keep an eye out for Apple TV Plus' upcoming family thriller 'Echo Valley." The new movie was penned by Brad Ingelsby and stars Julianne Moore, Sydney Sweeney, and Domhnall Gleeson.

Avengers 5 & 6 Rumored to Bring Back Mark Ruffalo's Hulk
A new industry rumor speculates that Mark Ruffalo will return as Bruce Banner / Hulk in Avengers: Doomsday and will also appear in Avengers: Secret Wars. Notably, the character last appeared on the big screen in the mid-credits scene of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2022). Ruffalo's last live-action appearance as the MCU Hulk was in the 2022 Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. He also voiced variants of the character in several episodes of What If…? Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus claimed in a recent post on X (previously Twitter) that Ruffalo would appear as Hulk in Avengers 5 and 6. 'Yes. Mark Ruffalo is in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars,' Perez shared while responding to a fellow user's query on whether the Poor Things actor would be in the next Avengers movie. In late March 2025, Marvel Studios announced the cast of Doomsday, but Ruffalo, whose Hulk has been part of the MCU Avengers since the team's inception, was not among those listed. In April 2025, MCU boss Kevin Feige hinted at the 2025 CinemaCon that the Doomsday cast was not yet complete, teasing that more members could be announced in the future. Ruffalo debuted as Bruce Banner / Hulk in the MCU in The Avengers (2012) and has been one of the most consistent parts of the franchise since then, even though he never appeared in a solo project based around his character. Previously, the Hulk was portrayed on the big screen by Eric Bana in Ang Lee's Hulk (2003) and Edward Norton in Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk (2008). Notably, the Russo Brothers are directing Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The former will come out on May 1, 2026, and the latter on May 7, 2027. Now You See Me 3 Trailer: Why Was Mark Ruffalo Missing?
Fans noticed that Mark Ruffalo, who was supposed to reprise his role as Dylan Rhodes, didn't appear in the latest trailer of Now You See Me: Now You Don't. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the third installment in the heist franchise marks the return of thieving magicians. While the over 2-minute clip showcased the major cast members, Ruffalo's absence from it has raised questions. So, why was the MCU star missing from the Now You See Me 3 trailer? Here are the details. No, Ruffalo doesn't appear in the Now You See Me 3 trailer. Ruffalo's Dylan Rhodes is a key character in the heist franchise, who was kept hidden in the trailer, and it might be for narrative purposes. The movie focuses on the Four Horsemen — Jesse Eisenberg as J. Daniel 'Danny' Atlas, Dave Franco as Jack Wilder, Isla Fisher as Henley Reeves, and Woody Harrelson as Merritt McKinney — set to conduct another dangerous and greatest heist. However, this time, they are joined by newcomers in this mission. Ahead of the trailer release, a glimpse of the third installment was provided earlier this month at CinemaCon. At the time, Lionsgate's Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson addressed what fans could expect from the upcoming release. He said, 'We can't wait for audiences to discover what [Fleischer's] done with the third film, and thrilled he'll be making even more magic with us.' (via Variety) Yes, Ruffalo is confirmed to return in Now You See Me: Now You Don't. The MCU actor might be missing from the trailer, but since his return has already been confirmed, he'll likely show up in the movie directly. At the end of the second installment, Dylan and the Horsemen escape the law. He then visits Greenwich Observatory and meets Allen, Li, and Bu Bu. There, he learns that their leader, Thaddeus, and his father, Lionel, were partners in magic. After sorting things out among them, Thaddeus passes on his mantle to Dylan. Meanwhile, the Horsemen are guided to an entrance to find out more about the Eye. Mark Ruffalo missing from Now You See Me 3 trailer despite confirmed return
The first trailer for Now You See Me: Now You Don't — the third entry in the hit magician-heist series — has stirred curiosity among fans due to the absence of Mark Ruffalo. Despite being a key figure in the franchise as FBI agent-turned-magician Dylan Rhodes, Ruffalo is nowhere to be seen in the newly released footage. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the upcoming film reunites audiences with the Four Horsemen — Jesse Eisenberg (Danny Atlas), Dave Franco (Jack Wilder), Isla Fisher (Henley Reeves), and Woody Harrelson (Merritt McKinney) — as they prepare for their most daring heist yet. The trailer also introduces new cast members, but noticeably omits Ruffalo's character, prompting speculation about his role. While Ruffalo does not appear in the trailer, his return has already been confirmed according to Variety. At the end of Now You See Me 2, Dylan and the Horsemen manage to escape the authorities. Dylan then visits the Greenwich Observatory, where he discovers the deeper roots of the Eye organization and accepts a new leadership role passed on by Thaddeus Bradley. Earlier this month at CinemaCon, Lionsgate's Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson previewed the film, saying, 'We can't wait for audiences to discover what [Fleischer's] done with the third film, and [we're] thrilled he'll be making even more magic with us'
