Watch: Keanu Reeves praises Ana de Armas' 'Ballerina' training
May 30 (UPI) -- Lionsgate released a behind-the-scenes video on Ballerina on Friday. The film opens Wednesday in large format screens and June 6 everywhere. Keanu Reeves, who executive produces and reprises his role as John Wick, speaks over footage of Ana de Armas practicing fight choreography. "Ana's a wonderful actress, so talented and there's really not anything she can't do," Reeves says. "To see her shift into her next gear was really cool. She's like, 'Let's go.'" Some of the behind-the-scenes footage shows Reeves and de Armas practicing a knife fight. She plays Eve, a woman training at the Ruska Roma ballet/assassin school that also taught John. "If I am disciplined, I can get there," de Armas says. "I'm actually surprised that I came out of it in one piece." John Wick director Chad Stahelski also produces the spinoff. He speaks over footage of de Armas shooting an enemy while being pushed in a T-boned car. "We have a practical aesthetic that we try to apply," Stahelski said. "We need somebody to actually be performing that so when you have someone like Ana de Armas, the sky's the limit. How far can we push to give you that visceralness?" UPI will present our review of Ballerina and interviews with the cast next week.

'There was a kind of fire in Ana that I wanted to meet and work with' - Director Len Wiseman on casting Ana de Armas in Ballerina
In the shadows of the John Wick universe, a new assassin takes the stage — graceful, lethal, and burning for revenge: Ballerina releasing in Indian cinemas on 13th June. Directed by Len Wiseman, Ballerina tells the gripping story of Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), a highly skilled assassin on a relentless quest for vengeance against those who destroyed her family. Set between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, this latest installment delivers the franchise's signature hard-hitting action, immersive world-building, and jaw-dropping stunts. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD When Ana de Armas stepped into the John Wick universe, she didn't just inherit a franchise — she earned it. Her intense, layered performances in No Time to Die and Knives Out caught the eye of the filmmakers, who saw something electric in her. 'There was a kind of fire in Ana that I wanted to meet and work with,' Wiseman recalls. 'At the onset, I told Ana that since Eve is just beginning her journey as an assassin, the character is going to, at times, get her ass kicked. Ana's reply was, 'Cool. Okay, I'm in.' During production she'd show me her bruises from the action and stunts, and they became like merit badges.' This isn't your average origin story. Eve doesn't just kill — she learns how to survive, how to fight back, and how to master the deadly art of transformation. 'She's perfect for the role in many ways,' Wiseman shares. 'What I love about this franchise series is that it is more of an actor-based action, and so we see the actors doing more of their own performance and choreography. And she was game with that.' De Armas, in turn, admired the John Wick films, but also knew that BALLERINA was a story that could stand on its own. 'We wanted Eve to be approachable and realistic. She had a very traumatic childhood that changed the lens through which Eve sees life.' Wiseman adds, 'Eve is seeking many things at the Ruska Roma, and really finds herself there. We experience, with Eve, some new layers, and how that organization works — this time from the point of view of someone who's brand new to it and experiencing how to train and move up the ranks.' PVRINOX Pictures continues its strong commitment to Indian audiences, rolling out Ballerina with an extensive theatrical release across multiple languages like English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Unlike the larger-than-life superheroes that dominate, Eve bleeds. She fights back. She transforms. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD As Ballerina gears up to bring its explosive action to Indian theatres on June 13th, the excitement is just getting started. With a massive fan following for the John Wick franchise in India, Ballerina is poised to become the next big cinematic obsession.

Ana de Armas Racks Up a Brutal Kill Count in JOHN WICK Spin-Off BALLERINA — GeekTyrant
Ana de Armas is stepping into the John Wick universe with serious firepower. In the upcoming Ballerina , the first big screen spin-off from the John Wick franchise, de Armas takes on the role of assassin Eve Macarro, and it sounds like she's making quite the entrance. In a recent interview with ComicBook, de Armas revealed just how high Eve's body count climbs: 'I know that we count, 106 only with the flamethrower. Only with flamethrower. So, I think it's a lot more than that,' said de Armas. 106 kills with a flamethrower. And that's just one weapon in Eve's arsenal. The flamethrower scene teased in the trailers shows Eve going full scorched earth on her enemies, and it's already shaping up to be a highlight of the film. One moment even shows her dousing an enemy wielding a flamethrower with a firehose. The movie looks awesomely savage. De Armas' rough estimate of the flamethrower kills alone makes it clear that Eve is a force of destruction, and she's being positioned to stand toe-to-toe with Keanu Reeves' legendary Baba Yaga. And while Ballerina is set between John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 , we already know Eve won't be putting an end to John, especially now that Chapter 5 is officially in the works. The story follows Eve, an assassin trained under the same Ruska Roma lineage as John Wick, as she sets out on a mission of vengeance after her father's murder. Her path brings her into conflict with the very people who trained her—and eventually, with John himself. In one fiery line from the trailer, Eve warns: 'When you think of me, you should think of fire,' ansd I'm sure we will once we see her go crazy with a falmthrower in the movie. Ballerina hits theaters June 6. Prepare for fire.
