Collector reviews failed payments of Annadata Sukhibhava

Rajamahendravaram: East Godavari district Collector P Prasanthi conducted a review meeting on the 'Annadata Sukhibhava - PM Kisan Yojana' payments, instructing officials to submit a comprehensive report on why funds were not credited to some categories of farmers in the first phase. The meeting was held at the Collector's office with joint collector S Chinna Ramudu and officials from the agriculture, revenue, and other departments participating. Recognising the need to identify the 'failed' categories where funds were not deposited, the collector directed officials to prepare a detailed report identifying discrepancies at the Gram Panchayat and Rythu Seva Kendra levels. The identified reasons for payment failures include mismatching Aadhaar details, lack of bank account linkage, pending NPCI payments, deceased beneficiaries, notional khatha (temporary land ownership certificates), land disputes, un-surveyed lands, and joint LPM transactions. She emphasised that these issues must be resolved at the Tahsildar level without any negligence. She also advised taking steps to ensure that the heirs of deceased beneficiaries apply for mutation. The collector stressed the need for a swift record verification process in all mandals, with the coordination of the revenue and agriculture departments. She clarified that eligible farmers who didn't receive funds in the first phase due to various reasons will receive both the first and second phase payments combined during the second phase's fund release. Officials were instructed to prepare detailed reports, analysing the reasons for payment failures survey number-wise. The meeting was attended by District Agriculture Officer S Madhava Rao, EDMC Satish and others.

Insufficient supply of urea hits farmers

Devanakonda (Kurnool district): A shortage of urea in Devanakonda mandal has sparked distress among farmers, particularly with recent light rainfall and expanded cotton cultivation prompting increased demand for complex fertilisers. Private fertiliser shops are linking urea sales to bio-pesticides, preventing farmers from purchasing urea independently. As a result, many are flocking to the government-run Rythu Seva Kendra (RSK) in Devanakonda for supplies. On Wednesday, a truck delivering urea bags to the RSK triggered a rush of farmers from surrounding villages. The crisis has been exacerbated by the recent transfer of village-level Agricultural Assistants, disrupting fertiliser distribution to local RSKs. With no stock available in villages, farmers are forced to travel to mandal headquarters, overwhelming the central RSK. Farmers voiced frustration over the restriction of two urea bags per Aadhaar card, arguing it is insufficient for their cultivation needs. The limited supply and distribution challenges have heightened tensions, as farmers rely heavily on urea for their crops during this critical Agricultural Officer Usha Rani addressed the concerns, assuring farmers that urea and DAP supplies to village-level RSKs will resume after July 5. She urged calmness, emphasising that steps are being taken to streamline distribution across the mandal. Authorities are working to address the logistical issues caused by the staff transfers and ensure equitable access to fertilisers. The situation underscores the need for improved supply chain management to support farmers during peak agricultural seasons. For now, farmers are hopeful that the promised resumption of supplies will alleviate the shortage and enable them to meet their cultivation demands effectively.

Natural farming only way forward to restore planetary health

Vijayawada: 'This is a historic day and game-changing moment where the entire agriculture and horticulture department and its leadership have come together to champion a shift towards practices that enhance farmer prosperity,' stated B Rajasekhar, Special Chief Secretary of the Agriculture and Cooperation Department. He was addressing the inaugural session of a three-day district-level Training of Trainers (ToT) programme, which commenced Wednesday at all district headquarters. This programme aims at giving orientation to over 10,000 Rythu Seva Kendra functionaries across the State in June on the promotion of Andhra Pradesh Community-Managed Natural Farming (APCNF). Rajasekhar emphasised that natural farming is a turning point, offering concrete solutions to major agrarian challenges. During his virtual session from the State headquarters, Rajasekhar urged departmental officials attending the training to promote Pre-Monsoon Dry Sowing (PMDS) in non-APCNF villages to ensure 365 days of green cover on farmland. He highlighted successful natural farming practitioners like Srinivasulu from Guntur district and Hema Latha from NTR district, who are actively exploring the science behind the practice. T Vijay Kumar, Executive Vice-Chairperson of Rythu Sadhikara Samstha (RySS), speaking virtually at the ToT launch, stressed the critical juncture faced by food consumers due to declining nutritional value, increasing pest resistance, rising carbon emissions, and economically unviable farming. He asserted, 'Natural Farming is not just a choice anymore; it is a necessity to restore the health of the planet and the dignity of the farmer.' This district-level ToT is a follow-up to the State-level programME and aims to orient all Village Agriculture Assistants (VAAs) and Village Horticulture Assistants (VHAs) statewide. Special arrangements were made at all district headquarters for smooth participation in virtual sessions with Heads of Departments. The training combines classroom learning with field-level exposure, providing grass-roots departmental functionaries with a comprehensive understanding of natural farming principles. Dilli Rao, Director of Agriculture; Dr K Sreenivasulu, Director of Horticulture; Dr. D.V. Raidu, Advisor to RySS; and B. Rama Rao, Chief Executive Officer of RySS, also joined the virtual call and addressed the gathering.
