Heavy rain triggers landslide in Sirmaur, two vehicles damaged

Kullu: Over 300 roads remained blocked in Himachal Pradesh on Monday as heavy rainfall in many areas of the state also affected the power and water supply. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), out of the 315 blocked roads, 181 were in the Mandi district alone. As many as 85 roads were blocked in the Seraj region of Mandi, 39 in the Thalout sub-division, and 19 in the Dharampur sub-division. According to the SEOC, a total of 84 roads remained blocked in the Kullu district, 23 in Kangra, 11 in Sirmaur, 7 in Una, and 5 in Shimla. A total of 491 water supply schemes remained affected, with the highest number, 367, in Kullu district, 41 in Kangra, and 8 in Chamba district. Some areas of the state also faced power outages as 72 transformers remained non-functional, with the highest number, 40, in Solan district and 20 in Mandi district. In Sirmaur district, two vehicles were badly damaged after they were caught in a landslide on the Paonta Sahib–Shillai highway on Monday morning. Fortunately, the drivers of both vehicles suffered only minor injuries. The highway also remained closed for a few hours following the landslide. Meanwhile, according to the SEOC, the death toll so far this monsoon reached 229 in Himachal Pradesh. "Heavy landslides in the area have put the very existence of Tanipari village at risk. The administration must make arrangements for relocating the village at the earliest," said Singh. Agency: PTI Shimla, Aug 11 (PTI) One national highway and 316 roads were closed for motor traffic in Himachal Pradesh, as the state continued to be pounded by incessant rain on Monday. In the afternoon, Shimla found itself covered under a blanket of fog, with visibility reduced to only a few metres. The local weather office issued an Orange warning for heavy to very heavy rain at several places in three to five districts till Thursday. The alert has been issued for Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur districts for Tuesday, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Sirmaur for Wednesday, and Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur for Thursday. Ghaghas village in Bilaspur district has received 61 mm of rain since Sunday night. Bilaspur has witnessed 50.2 mm of rain, Dharamshala 30.8 mm, Sarahan 30 mm, Murari Devi 28.6 mm, Shimla 27.2 mm, Jubbarhatti 25 mm, and Neri 24.5 mm of rain. Malraon 19.2 received mm of precipitation, Kufri 19 mm, Slapper 18.9 mm, Sundernagar 18.7 mm, Mandi 17.4 mm, Nahan 16.1 mm, and Dehra Gopipur 16 mm of it. Aut-Sainj road, a part of NH-305, was closed for vehicular traffic. Of the 316 roads closed, 181 were in Mandi district and 85 in the adjoining Kullu district, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). So far, this monsoon, 119 people have died in rain-related incidents, while 36 remain missing. Seventy-nine power transformers and 491 water supply schemes have been affected, the SEOC said. Since the onset of the monsoon on June 20, Himachal Pradesh has reported losses amounting to Rs 2,007 crore, washed away in 58 flash floods, 30 cloudbursts, and 54 major landslides. The state has received 509.5 mm of rainfall against a normal of 463.5 mm, an excess of 10 per cent from June 1 to August 11, the meteorological office said. 1 2 Shimla: The body of a pilgrim form West Bengal, who had gone missing on the Kinner Kailash Yatra on Aug 7, was found near Gauri Kund on Sunday, said police in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. While Gauri Kund is know as the base camp of the Kedarnath trek in Uttarakhand, a site with a similar name is located on the Kinner Kailash route. Police said they had informed the family of the deceased man, Dukhi Ram Sarkar (38), who hailed from South Dumdum, North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. The police's declaration of finding the body came on a day the Kiratpur-Manali highway was opened to traffic at landslide-prone zones in Mandi district, even as 359 roads remained blocked. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), 214 roads are blocked in Mandi district, 91 in Kullu, 22 in Kangra, 13 in Shimla, seven in Una, six in Sirmaur, and four in Solan district. Kangra received 68.4 mm of rain since Saturday night, followed by Murari Devi (52.6 mm), Palampur (52 mm), Sarahan (25 mm), Jubbarhatti (17 mm), Dharamshala (16.8 mm), Pandoh and Bajura (11.5 mm each), Kufri (11.2 mm), Bilaspur (10.4 mm), and Kasauli (10 mm). A total of 360 roads, including the Aut-Sainj road, part of NH-305, were closed for vehicular traffic. Of these, 214 were blocked in Mandi district and 92 in the adjoining Kullu district on Sunday, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). So far, 112 people have died in rain-related incidents this monsoon, while 37 remain missing. In addition, 145 power transformers and 520 water supply schemes have been affected, the SEOC said. Since the onset of the monsoon on June 20, Himachal Pradesh has reported losses amounting to ₹1,988 crore. The state has witnessed 58 flash floods, 30 cloudbursts, and 53 major landslides so far. During the ongoing monsoon season, the state has received 507.3 mm of rainfall against a normal of 445.5 mm — an excess of 11 per cent from June 1 to August 10, the MeT office said.

Heavy rains lashed Himachal Pradesh in the last few days, triggering several cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides, leading to the closure of 400 roads, including one national highway, officials said on Saturday. The Auto-Sainj road, NH 305, has been blocked near Jahed and Banjar in Kullu district. A total of 400 roads were closed for vehicular traffic. Of these, 240 were blocked in Mandi district while 100 roads were closed in the adjoining Kullu district on Saturday as per the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). The local MeT office issued a yellow warning of heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas of the state on Saturday and Sunday, and an orange alert of heavy to very heavy rains in isolated areas of the state from Monday to Thursday. Light to moderate rains lashed a few parts of the state, and Naini Devi 112.4 mm, Pandoh 102 mm, Raipur Maidan 74.6 mm, Pachhad 67 mm, Narkanda 66.5 mm, Kasauli 65.5 mm, Kufri 55.2 mm, Nahan 49.3 mm, and Solan 45.6 mm. Around 112 people have died in rain-related incidents this monsoon so far, while 37 are missing. Additionally, 704 transformers and 178 water supply schemes have been affected, the SEOC said. Since the onset of monsoon on June 20, Himachal Pradesh has incurred losses totalling Rs 1,988 crore. The state has witnessed 58 flash floods, 30 cloudbursts and 51 major landslides so far.
