Malaysian authorities investigating Singaporean driver caught pumping cheap petrol into plastic container

MALAYSIA: Johor authorities have launched an investigation after a Singaporean driver was spotted refueling his vehicle with RON95 subsidized petrol and then filling a plastic container with more fuel, at a petrol station in Iskandar Puteri. Photos of the incident are widely circulated on social media after being posted by SG Road Vigilante on Facebook. Photos show a blue Singapore-registered Mini Cooper beside a driver who is transferring petrol into a plastic container after filling up his vehicle. The incident, which took place around 6:36 p.m. on Sunday (Aug 3), quickly sparked outrage among netizens. Under Malaysian law, RON95 petrol is heavily subsidized by the government and strictly prohibited from being sold to foreign-registered vehicles. The authorities in Johor are investigating to determine whether any laws were broken by the petrol station involved. According to Sin Chew Daily, authorities are assessing whether the station operator was negligent or complicit in allowing the illegal fuel purchase. If any violations of the Supply Control Act 1961 are confirmed, strict action will be taken, the authorities assured. Investigations are ongoing.

Singaporean driver pumping cheap petrol in Malaysia stirs outrage

An incident involving a Singapore-registered car owner who is seen filling up a plastic container with subsidised petrol in Malaysia on social media has prompted Malaysian authorities to launch an investigation. The driver of the Mini Cooper with Singapore number plates was spotted at the Caltex Nusa Sentral station in Johor state on Sunday, filling up his car with RON 95-grade petrol and pumping it into a container for tapau, a colloquial term meaning a takeaway, according to one post on SG Road Vigilante. RON 95 is a subsidised grade of petrol available for sale only to Malaysian-registered vehicles. It costs 2.05 ringgit (48 US cents) per litre (1⁄4 gallon), which is about five times lower than the price of similar-grade fuel in Singapore, according to Singapore news sites. Online users have derided the driver in the post for being a cheapskate. One user said: 'As a Singaporean, I really feel totally embarrassed by this stupid [fellow] who can afford a Mini Cooper and yet pump RON 95.' Others have tagged the official pages of the police on both sides of the Causeway, as well as Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority in their comments. On Monday, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Johor confirmed it had launched an investigation.

Malaysian authorities searching for Singapore driver who filled container with subsidised fuel, Singapore News

Malaysian authorities have launched an investigation into a Singapore-registered car after its driver was spotted filling a tank of subsidised Ron95 petrol at a petrol station in Johor Bahru. The incident occurred at Caltex Nusa Sentral, located in the Iskandar Puteri township, on Sunday (Aug 3) at around 6.30pm, according to a post on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page. Photos showed a blue Mini Cooper, with a Singapore-registered licence plate, and a driver filling up a plastic container with Ron95 petrol. Ron95 is subsidised petrol that is available for sale only to Malaysian-registered vehicles. Foreign-registered vehicles are prohibited from purchasing Ron95 fuel and are only permitted to purchase Ron97, which is not subsidised. Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, director of the Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), said that the ministry is aware of the incident and has opened an investigation. "A thorough investigation is being conducted to identify the location of the station involved and determine whether there has been a breach of existing regulations," she told the New Straits Times. The ban on the sale of RON95 petrol to foreign-registered vehicles remains in force, said Lilis Saslinda. "If the investigation confirms any offence, appropriate action will be taken against the parties involved, including the petrol station operator if found to be negligent or complicit," she said, reminding petrol station operators to adhere to government guidelines. Driver, 83, hits motorcyclist and crashes into Clementi coffee shop bollards, missing diners, Singapore News

An 83-year-old woman allegedly lost control of her vehicle, hitting a motorcyclist before crashing into bollards outside a coffee shop in Clementi on Monday (July 28). The incident occurred at about 6.35pm at Block 449, Clementi Avenue 3. A post shared in the Facebook group SG Road Vigilante showed a photo of the damaged car crashed into the bollards, with a crowd gathered around the scene. The accident appeared to have occurred at a zebra crossing leading to the coffee shop located beneath an HDB block. According to Shin Min Daily News, when reporters arrived at the scene that evening, they saw that the front and right sides of the car were badly dented, and the licence plate had fallen off. Members of the public told the Chinese evening daily that serious injuries could have resulted had the bollards not blocked the car's path. An ice cream vendor, who wished to be known only as Pan, 65, told the Chinese daily that he'd rushed to the scene after hearing the crash. "A female motorcyclist was lying on the ground with what appeared to be an injured arm [and was] unable to move. Medical staff later bandaged her," said Pan. Pan added that in addition to the female driver, there was an older man and another woman in the car. He believed that the car had collided with the motorcycle, causing the rider to crash onto the sidewalk. In addition to the motorcycle involved in the accident, a black car parked on the opposite side of the road was also believed to have been hit from behind during the incident, Shin Min reported. Another coffee shop employee told Shin Min that the motorcyclist is a delivery rider and was conscious and able to speak after the accident. It was also reported that two people, believed to be family members of the female driver, rushed to the scene. One of them stated that the driver was their grandmother, according to Shin Min. A coffee shop employee also told the Chinese evening daily that the driver appeared frightened after exiting the vehicle and kept apologising to the rider lying on the ground. Two nurses working at a nearby clinic also came to provide assistance. In response to queries from AsiaOne, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that they received a call for assistance at about 6.35 pm at Block 449, Clementi Avenue 3. A 26-year-old female motorcyclist was conveyed to the National University Hospital in a conscious state, while the 83-year-old female driver is currently assisting with investigations. Police investigations are ongoing. [[nid:436371]]
