Ensure prompt redressal of public grievances, officials told

Puttaparthi (Sri Sathya Sai district): District Collector T S Chetan emphasised that officials must ensure prompt and satisfactory resolution of public grievances, stating that petitioners approach the administration with high hopes. He directed all departmental officers to address the issues efficiently, leaving no room for dissatisfaction. The Collector was speaking during the Public Grievance Redressal Programme held at the Collectorate on Monday. Joint Collector Abhishek Kumar, DRO Parthasarathi, Special Deputy Collector Suryanarayana, DRDA PD Narasayya, and DPO Samatha also participated in the programme. Officials received various petitions from the public during the session. During his address, Collector T.S. Chetan instructed officials to inspect overhead water tanks and ensure their cleanliness. He stressed the importance of providing safe drinking water and directed field-level inspections to avoid any shortcomings. He also warned that officials would be held accountable if hostels were found lacking in hygiene or if contaminated water was supplied. He directed mandatory visits to hostels, with inspections covering water facilities, tank cleaning, restrooms, pipelines, and kitchens to ensure they are functioning properly. The Collector emphasised that every petition must be thoroughly investigated in a transparent manner and resolved within the stipulated timeline, ensuring the petitioner is fully satisfied. He cautioned officials against delays beyond SLA (Service Level Agreement) or reopening of resolved cases, urging them to close all grievances conclusively. Petitions submitted during the session included issues related to land disputes, ration cards, housing site allocations, and pension approvals. In total, 234 petitions were received during the session, including 77 from Puttaparthi, 55 from Penukonda, 73 from Dharmavaram, and 29 from Kadiri. Officials from various departments, along with petitioners and stakeholders, actively participated in the event.

New board appointments announced for Singapore Land Authority; Yeoh Oon Jin steps down

[SINGAPORE] The Ministry of Law (MinLaw) on Monday (Jul 28) announced the latest board appointment changes at the Singapore Land Authority (SLA). Former executive chairman of PwC Singapore Yeoh Oon Jin will be stepping down as chairman of the SLA board on Jul 31. In his role, Yeoh pushed for the adaptive reuse of state properties for more social and community uses. This included the rejuvenation of heritage buildings into vibrant community and lifestyle clusters, such as the former St Andrew's Mission Hospital. He served on the board since Aug 1, 2016. He played a key role in developing the Digital Conveyancing Portal, which aims to transform the current manual, paper-based conveyancing process into an efficient, streamlined digitalised process. It is expected to be fully completed in 2026. Under Yeoh's guidance, SLA was elected co-chair of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management, and implemented a refreshed National Geospatial Masterplan to drive a geo-enabled Singapore. His replacement is Loh Lik Peng, founder and director of Unlisted Collection, who will be appointed as chairman on Aug 1. Loh has been on the SLA board since Aug 1, 2017, and was appointed as deputy chairman on Aug 1, 2020. Loh is a board member of the National Heritage Board. Jerry Koh, managing partner at Singapore law firm Allen and Gledhill, will be appointed as deputy chairman of the SLA board on Aug 1. He has been a member of the board since Aug 1, 2020. Additionally, two new members will be appointed to the SLA board for a term of two years. They are Boo Junfeng, director and writer at Peanut Pictures, and Rafiq Bin Mohamad, founder and creative and branding director at Feral. Meanwhile, the six board members who will be reappointed for a term of two years are: Jaelle Ang, chief executive and co-founder of The Great Room; Angelene Chan, executive chairman of DP Architects; Cheung Pui Yuen, chief risk officer of Deloitte South-east Asia; Chong Siak Ching, former chief executive of National Gallery Singapore; Lien Choong Luen, general manager of Gojek Singapore; and Melvyn Yeo, founder and managing partner of Trirec. Angeline Poh, chief customer and corporate development officer at Mediacorp, will complete her current term of office on Jul 31 and will not be reappointed as an SLA board member. Existing SLA board members such as Calvin Phua, chief executive of SLA; Colin Chow, deputy secretary (policy) at the Ministry of Law; and Kenny Tan, deputy secretary (workforce) at the Ministry of Manpower will continue serving on the board.

Attendees of the third edition of ST Podcasts Live which includes two podcast recordings on June 3, 2025 at 9 Raffles Place, Republic Plaza. SINGAPORE - Worried about career longevity? Have you or someone you know been struggling with mental health? Are you a young person who feels caught up in the rat race, or are you curious to know more about Singapore's heritage and local music scenes? No matter what you may be interested in, everyone gets a say at The Straits Times' 180th anniversary live podcast events to celebrate the newspaper's milestone year. Those who are interested in learning how a podcast recording is done, or in mingling and meeting with like-minded people to discuss the trending topics of the day, have been invited to attend over six live podcast recordings held this year. Participants could gain insights into the inner workings of podcast production and even pose questions to the guests. Joining them was Money FM 89.3 producer-presenter Dan Koh, who emceed for the events on Feb 12 and April 15, as well as Kiss92 presenter Shawnrick Hu, who emceed for the event on Jun 2. Events so far have featured ST Podcasts' The Usual Place, In Your Opinion, Health Check, Headstart On Record, and Music Lab, with more soon to come. In the inaugural live podcast event held at The Foundry in February, host of The Usual Place Natasha Ann Zachariah met with guests from the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) to discuss 'the narrative, resonance and stories behind' heritage spaces in Singapore. Guest Johnson Soh, founder of eldercare company SanCare Asia, demonstrated how an instrument called Crdl (pronounced Cradle) provides a sensorial experience for seniors, allowing them to translate their touch into sounds as a way of connecting with others, while programme executive at Fei Yue Community Services Amanda Soon also spoke about how music and sound can be therapeutic for seniors, and how young people can get involved in volunteering to make a difference. Meanwhile Nabill Shukry Johary, a part-time student with SUSS studying marketing, juggles school with a business he started up in 2021 with his father - Cheekies, a home-based delivery service of healthy meals for the Muslim market - in a bid to help his family move out of their one-room rental apartment in Tampines. The episode was hosted by correspondent Tay Hong Yi, speaking with guests Noel Png, a telecommunications system engineer at ST Engineering, and senior career coach Parameswari Seenivasa. Audience members also chimed with questions about their own careers and opportunities. Later in the night, Music Lab host Eddino Abdul Hadi hosted award-winning Singaporean composer, producer, and music director Evan Low to discuss the trajectory of a career in music in Singapore. A recipient of the National Arts Council's Young Artist Award in 2024, Low has worked on over 200 songs. He is best known for being a co-composer and musician on recent National Day Parade songs The Road Ahead (2021) sung by artistes such as Linying, Not Alone (2024) by Benjamin Kheng and the 2018 remake of We Are Singapore. Anantapur: Acting District Collector Shiv Narayan Sharma conducted the Praja Samasya Parishkara Vedika (Public Grievance Redressal System - PGRS) at the Revenue Bhavan in Anantapur Collectorate on Monday. Citizens from various mandals across the district submitted petitions addressing a wide range of issues. Alongside the Acting Collector, assistant collector Sachin Rahar, district revenue officer A Malola, forest settlement officer G Ramakrishna Reddy, special deputy collectors Tippenayak, Anand, Rammohan, Mallikarjunudu, and district agriculture Officer Umamaheswaramma were present to receive petitions. A total of 612 petitions were received during the programme. Speaking on the occasion, Collector Sharma directed officials to ensure qualitative and timely resolution of grievances. He emphasised that district-level officers from relevant departments must treat each grievance seriously, interact respectfully with petitioners, and ensure effective communication and resolution. He mentioned that monitoring is being done at the CMO (Chief Minister's Office) level, and each petition should be followed up with proper endorsements. He instructed that all applications must be carefully reviewed and resolved with speed, impartiality, and within stipulated timelines, avoiding unnecessary delays or backlogs beyond SLA (Service Level Agreement). Field-level inquiries should be conducted at the mandal level, and petitioners must be given proper receipts and timely feedback on the status of their grievances. Every complaint must be endorsed, and officials must prevent situations where complaints go unacknowledged. The Collector further advised revenue divisional officers, municipal commissioners, tahsildars and MPDOs to focus on petitions under their jurisdiction and resolve them quickly. He also called for swift response to issues routed through the CMO, MPs, MLCs and MLAs. In addition to PGRS, he urged for acceleration of land acquisition, revenue services and resurvey work across villages. Pending tasks under P-4 guidelines must be fully reported and addressed promptly. District revenue officer Malola, during the meeting, highlighted the need for vigilance during the monsoon season to prevent the spread of seasonal diseases. She called on officials from departments such as Municipal Administration, RWS, Panchayat Raj, Medical & Health, Revenue, Police, Disaster Management, and Electricity to take proactive preventive measures. Officials were instructed to prevent leakages in pipelines, ensure water purity, avoid stagnation, and maintain hygiene by using chlorine, bleaching powder and regular spraying in sensitive areas. Anantapur: A total of 660 grievance petitions were received during the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) programme held at the Anantapur District Collectorate on Monday. District Collector Dr Vinod Kumar directed officials to resolve petitions with utmost priority, quality, and transparency, ensuring public satisfaction. The event, organised at the Revenue Bhavan, saw participation from people across various mandals. Petitions were received by the Collector, DRO A Malola, Assistant Collector Sachin Rahar, Deputy Collectors Tippa Nayak, Mallikarjuna, Anand, and Agriculture Officer Umamaheswaramma. The Collector instructed officials to clear pending petitions from the CMO, Deputy CMO, MPs, MLAs, and MLCs within SLA timelines and avoid delays. He emphasized providing clear endorsements for unresolved petitions and mentioned that IVRS feedback is closely monitored by the Chief Minister's Office. He also directed authorities to arrange drinking water and medical camps at Secretariat counseling centers and address issues faced by women staff. Grievance counters should be set up for additional support. MPDOs must supervise these centers daily and report updates via Excel sheets. Officials were asked to resolve at least one court case per day and prioritize contempt cases. Special attention is to be given to pension and ration distribution in July, and all promotion or vacancy-related files for July–August must be submitted promptly. During a review meeting, the Collector instructed district officers and Special Deputy Collectors to personally inspect and resolve at least one PGRS petition each week. Failure to do so will result in showcause notices. He stressed maintaining proper documentation, sharing endorsements via WhatsApp, and wearing ID cards during grievance programs. Outstanding performers will be recognized monthly.
