Former India Bowling Coach Bharat Arun To Conduct Training Program In Sri Lanka
Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun will conduct a specialised 14-day training program for Sri Lankan cricketers across men's and women's junior and senior teams as well as coaches from June 2. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) informed in a statement on Friday that Arun will conduct training programs for their men's and women's national teams, women's A team, U-19 men's team, coaches of the High Performance Centre, club and provincial coaches as well as coach educators. Arun, who was India's bowling coach from 2014-2021, will be the second former coach of the national team after R Sridhar to conduct training sessions for cricketers from the island nation and he will commence the program by training the U-19 men's squad. Arun will also hold separate strategy sessions with the men's red-ball and white-ball teams and conduct technical and skill-based training with fast bowlers. The 62-year-old Arun, who worked in the Indian Premier League as Kolkata Knight Riders' bowling coach, will also hold video and performance analysis sessions with players and coaches, and also on match-scenarios to develop 'game understanding', the SLC said. New Delhi: India's former bowling coach Bharat Arun will conduct a 14-day specialised training programme for both top men's and women's cricketers in Sri Lanka. Arun recently completed a stint as the fast-bowling coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2025. In a statement on Friday, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said Arun's programme will aim at enhancing the standards of Sri Lankan fast bowlers across junior and senior squads at the High-Performance Centre from June 2, where he will start training the U19 national team. He will also work with the national men's and women's teams, as well as the women's 'A' team, the U19 men's team, coaches of the High Performance Center, club and provincial coaches, and coach educators during his stay in Sri Lanka. 'Arun, who served as the bowling coach of Team India from 2014 to 2021, will conduct separate strategy sessions with the men's red ball and white ball teams, hold technical and skill-based training with fast bowlers, hold video and performance analysis sessions with players and coaches, and also match scenarios to develop 'game' understanding,' added the SLC. Arun's camp in Sri Lanka comes before the men's team host Bangladesh for an all-format series at home, while the women's side fine-tunes its preparation for the Women's ODI World Cup, to be held later this year in India. Since 2024, SLC has brought in foreign coaches to run short programmes. Last year, they roped in Rajasthan Royals' high-performance director Zubin Bharucha to conduct a brief programme in raising their batting standards. Recently, SLC brought former India fielding coach R Sridhar, who held the role from 2014 to 2021, to conduct a comprehensive 10-day fielding programme for their men's and women's teams emerging squads, premier club players, national U19 team, and women's 'A' side.

OREM, Utah () — An Orem man has been charged after allegedly threatening a family with a firearm after they visited a neighboring house that was for sale. Adderly David Valera-Tabares, 36, has been charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault for threatening bodily injury with a dangerous weapon. According to documents, on May 9, 2025, the Orem Police Department was dispatched to a home near 1000 N and 200 E St. in Orem on reports of a man threatening to kill a man, woman, and young child. Orem woman allegedly blocks driver, causing 'significant congestion' during road rage incident When officers arrived, the victims told police that they had pulled up to a home that had a for-sale sign to get a flyer. Upon pulling up to the home, Valera-Tabares came out of a neighboring residence and began yelling at the victims. Valera-Tabares allegedly had a firearm in his right hand and began advancing toward the family, shouting about how he was 'going to kill them.' A neighbor heard all the noise and came out of their home to see what was going on. As soon as Valera-Tabares saw the woman come out of her home, he reportedly turned around, tried to hide the firearm, and went back inside his house. The neighbor then contacted police. Syracuse police seeking assault suspect that left victim in critical condition Orem police officers discovered that Valera-Tabares had a history of mental health issues and reportedly struggled with schizophrenia. Mental health detectives from the police department then made phone contact with Valera-Tabares. He admitted that he had threatened the family, but denied that he had a firearm, police say. The victims told police that they were certain he was holding a black handgun and filled out voluntary statement forms for the police. A search warrant executed on the home revealed that three black firearms were in a family member's bedroom, and a holster and 9 mm ammunition were in Valera-Tabares' bedroom. Valera-Tabares was booked into the Utah County Jail but was later released on the condition that he would attend court appearances related to the case. His initial appearance was yesterday, May 27. Syracuse police seeking assault suspect that left victim in critical condition
SYRACUSE, Utah () — The Syracuse Police Department is asking for help locating a suspect in an assault that left a woman in critical condition last night. On Tuesday night around 9:30 p.m., officers with the Syracuse Police Department were called to an assault near 2700 W and 3300 S in Syracuse. A 26-year-old female victim had 'sustained significant injuries,' according to police. The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Daniel Herson Vazquez, 34, is believed to be the suspect in this case. His last known address is in Syracuse, and he appears to be driving a black pickup truck. Police say that he already has an active warrant for a prior aggravated assault case. The public has been advised to avoid approaching Vazquez. Although they do not believe there is an immediate danger, officers advise against approaching him. SLC Convenes Annual Legislative Oversight Forum 2025 - Middle East Business News and Information
The General Secretariat of the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) held its Legislative Oversight Annual Forum for the year 2025 (Legislative Oversight Forum), under the theme 'Together for Enhanced Legislative Compliance'. The event was held in the presence of H.E. Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar Al Muhairi, SLC Secretary-General, and H.E. Mohammed Juma Al Suwaidi, SLC Assistant Secretary-General. SLC legal experts and strategic partners actively participated in the event. The Legislative Oversight Forum was inaugurated by H.E. Al Muhairi, who delivered the opening address outlining key aspects of the legislative landscape and the audit ecosystem, while emphasising the importance of fostering a culture of legislative compliance. The Legislative Oversight Forum featured a presentation titled 'Insights into Legislative Oversight', delivered by Mr. Omar Al Suwaidi, Director of the SLC Legislative Audit Directorate. The presentation highlighted the SLC's role in promoting legislative compliance among government entities, in accordance with Law No. (14) of 2024 Concerning the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai, and Resolution No. (3) of 2024 Approving the Terms of Reference of the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai. The presentation also explored the SLC's core functions, the concept and procedures of legislative compliance, annual legislative audit statistics for 2024, and the legislative compliance rate as a government performance excellence indicator. The presentation further outlined the responsibilities of government entities, while emphasising the importance of proper implementation of legislation in upholding governance and transparency. The Legislative Oversight Forum also featured a session titled 'Legislative Compliance Dialogue', with Ms. Wadha Al Ghafli, Director of Strategy and Excellence at the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, as guest speaker. The session was hosted by Mrs. Marwah Mohammed Ibrahim, Head of the Audit Section at the SLC Legislative Audit Directorate. The Legislative Oversight Forum is part of the SLC's ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of legislative compliance at both institutional and societal levels. The forum showcased exemplary compliance models from diverse sectors, including entities that achieved the highest compliance rates, embodying the highest standards for legislative compliance across government operations. The event also served as a prominent platform for strengthening collaboration and coordination among government entities, facilitating dialogue on tools and mechanisms required for enhancing legislative compliance — an essential factor in consolidating the rule of law, improving government efficiency, and promoting the principles of effectiveness and transparency within the Dubai government sector. In his address, H.E. Al Muhairi explained that legislative compliance is a cornerstone of government excellence, serving as a key indicator of progress and a catalyst for enhancing the performance of public sector operations. H.E. Al Muhairi underscored the need for unified efforts and seamless coordination among all government entities to ensure the optimal implementation of legislative frameworks. This contributes to consolidating the rule of law and strengthening Dubai's position at the forefront of legislative compliance regionally and internationally. H.E. Al Muhairi added: 'Legislative oversight is gaining increasing importance in light of the rapid pace of economic and technological transformation, and the growing adoption of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), amid rising public expectations for higher levels of efficiency. In this context, the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai remains committed to raising awareness about the importance of aligning institutional work systems within government entities with legislative compliance frameworks, and to adopting well-defined policies and procedures that ensure attainment of the highest standards of legislative compliance.' The Legislative Oversight Forum also featured the 'Legislative Compliance Award', recognising Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment, Financial Audit Authority, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS), Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), and the Judicial Council as exemplary models of legislative compliance.
