BJP leader hits out at Maratha quota activist Jarange for remarks against Fadnavis

Mumbai: BJP MLC Parinay Fuke on Tuesday slammed Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange for his criticism of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and alleged that he has lost his credibility. Jarange has announced a fresh hunger strike in Mumbai on Aug 29 while accusing the state government of failing to fulfil its promises to the Maratha community. Last week, he alleged that chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was working to end the political careers of Maratha leaders in the govt, including deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde. Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Fuke said, "Just like frogs that come out during rains, Jarange makes an appearance only when elections are in the offing. He has lost his credibility. His remote control is in NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar's hands." "Perhaps Jarange does not want the Marathas to get a reservation. Perhaps he wants to create a rift between Marathas and other communities," he said. Earlier in Dharashiv, state minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil also hit out at Jarange, questioning why he only targeted Fadnavis and did not object to Pawar's public stance that Marathas cannot be given reservation. "Will you get the quota by criticising Fadnavis? It was Fadnavis who gave you a reservation that lasted till the Supreme Court struck it down. The MVA govt's incompetence, including leaders like Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar, caused the loss," Vikhe Patil said. Jarange has been demanding the recognition of all Marathas as Kunbis — an agrarian caste listed under the Other Backward Classes category — and reservation for the politically dominant community in govt jobs and education. Fatehpur incident: Amid din by opposition, govt assures guilty won't be spared

On the second day of the Monsoon session on Tuesday, the Uttar Pradesh government assured the legislative assembly that those responsible for the vandalism of a medieval mausoleum in Fatehpur will not be spared, even as the opposition created a din over the issue. (HT Photo) Parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna informed the House that an FIR has been registered against 10 named and 150 unidentified individuals. Uproar continued in both the assembly and the legislative council on Tuesday, with members raising the Fatehpur incident soon after Question Hour. Leader of the opposition Mata Prasad Pandey criticised the government over the vandalism of the mausoleum in Fatehpur, alleging a pattern under the BJP of targeting madrasas and religious sites of Muslims. On Monday, the opposition had disrupted the House, raising the issue of misbehaviour with Pandey. Referring to the incident, he said: 'It has become a custom in the BJP government to damage madrasas and mausoleums. An announcement regarding the Fatehpur mausoleum was made a week in advance and a large number of people assembled to vandalise it. Though police personnel were there, they were not in sufficient numbers. Can the government reply to this?' Dismissing the claims of government's involvement as baseless, parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna said law and order is the top priority and those taking the law into their hands will face strict action.' In the presence of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Khanna said, 'An FIR was lodged at the Kotwali police station on August 11 against 10 named and 150 unidentified accused under sections 190, 191(2), 191(3), 301, and 196 of the BNS. The accused have also been booked under the Criminal Law Amendment Act and the Public Property Damage Prevention Act.' He alleged that the opposition was politicising the incident. 'Your party's office-bearer was among the vandals, but his name does not figure in the FIR,' Mata Prasad Pandey alleged. At least two dozen SP MLAs entered the well of the House, raising slogans 'Nahi chalegi nahi chalegi, ye sarkar nahi chelegi.' The SP members sat on the floor while the government went ahead with legislative work. Speaker Satish Mahana urged them to end the protest. 'The government has given a complete reply to your issue. The government wants to run the House, but I see some members are not interested,' he remarked, also stopping a member from filming the protest. The opposition members briefly returned to their seats at 1:20pm but resumed protesting at 1:40pm as the government tabled several reports, including the Geology and Mining Section notification, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports on Solid Waste Management in Urban Areas, the utilisation of the Central Road Fund, the Saryu Canal Project, and the welfare of building and other construction workers.

SP, BJP trade barbs over Fatehpur tomb vandalism, law and order

Allegations and counter-allegations flew in the Upper House of Uttar Pradesh assembly over the vandalism of a Fatehpur mausoleum, on the second day of the ongoing Monsoon session on Tuesday. Leader of opposition in the legislative council Lal Bihari Yadav had a heated exchange with chairman Kunwar Manvendra Singh, while the leader of the House and deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya hit out at the SP, alleging that it used to harbour criminals. (File Photo) As the proceedings started, MLC Man Singh Yadav sought details of vacant teaching posts from minister for agriculture education and research Surya Pratap Shahi, sparking a heated exchange between Lal Bihari Yadav and Kunwar Manvendra Singh. Some of the SP MLCs, including Jasmeer Ansari, raised issues related to protocols for the lawmakers and removal of inauguration stones with their names. Replying to this, Maurya said the matter will be investigated and action will be taken accordingly. Meanwhile, MLC Mukul Yadav raised the Fatehpur mausoleum issue, questioning the law and order situation in the state. 'As per latest information, around 10 murders and nine rapes are committed in the state every day. The law and order situation in the state is in shambles. Yesterday, a group of people attacked a mausoleum in Fatehpur, which was barricaded, and that too in front of the police,' Yadav said. Another SP MLC Kiranpal Kashyap also raised questions on the law and order, claiming that it is a struggle for the poor to get an FIR registered in the current regime. Lal Bihari Yadav alleged that the corruption was at its peak in police stations. However, Maurya dismissed all the allegations pertaining to the law and order. 'Since we have come to power in 2017, we have ensured stern action against criminals, and that is why the law and order situation in the state has improved. There is no denying that crimes happen, but swift action is taken against culprits,' he said. 'The previous SP regime was full of criminals and there was an atmosphere of fear in the state. All the criminals have relations with the Samajwadi Party, which is a sinking ship. The bubble of fake PDA has burst,' Maurya added. Objecting to this, Lal Bihari Yadav asked Maurya to answer the question on law and order.

Pandemonium in UP Assembly over Fatehpur violence, proceedings disrupted for second day

Lucknow, Aug 12 (UNI) Proceedings of the monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly were disrupted for the second consecutive day today by Samajwadi Party (SP) members during Zero Hour. The opposition members staged protests and raised slogans against the government over yesterday's communal incident in Fatehpur. However, question hour earlier in the day passed off peacefully. Speaker Satish Mahana attempted to pacify the protesting members, but when they refused to relent, he instructed that the agenda be completed amid noisy scenes. Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Mata Prasad Pandey raised the matter as soon as Zero Hour started, holding the government responsible for the incident in which some supporters of Hindu organisations allegedly ransacked a Mazar in Fatehpur yesterday, claiming it was a Shiv temple. Later Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Replying to the matter, State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said that action had been taken against the guilty and an FIR had been registered against 150 people. He assured, 'No one will be spared if found guilty of breaking the law and order in the state.' Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was present during the entire episode but did not make any remarks. Unhappy with the government's reply, SP members trooped into the well of the House and staged a protest. Later, the speaker gave them another opportunity to return to their seats and participate in the proceedings. However, they again raised the Fatehpur issue, leading to another round of commotion. The speaker adjourned the House till 11 am tomorrow. UNI MB PPP RN

Row Erupts In UP After Tomb Outside Fatehpur Mausoleum Vandalised Amid Hindu Temple Claims

LUCKNOW: A political controversy erupted in Uttar Pradesh after a tomb outside the Fatehpur mausoleum in the state was vandalised. Tension flared up in Fatehpur on Monday after a centuries-old tomb outside a mausoleum was vandalised by a group of people, claiming it had been built over a demolished Hindu temple. The incident, which took place at the tomb of Nawab Abu Samad, has triggered a heated political war of words and prompted the administration to deploy heavy police and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) forces in the area. Barricades have been set up around the disputed site to prevent further unrest. The purported video circulating on social media shows members of Hindu groups damaging parts of the mausoleum and hoisting saffron flags atop it. The visuals have drawn sharp reactions from the local Muslim community and the Opposition, who have accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of fostering communal divisions. In a veiled attack on the BJP, Congress MP Imran Masood told IANS, "This is their agenda, and this is what they are working on. If someone from the opposite side is involved, bullets will be fired, but if it's people from their ideology, they will be pacified through persuasion." "People are going to religious places and vandalising them, and the police are folding their hands and escorting them out. The hatred they are sowing will be very difficult to uproot," he added. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati urged the state government to act decisively. Taking to X, she posted, "In the dispute/controversy ongoing in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district regarding the mausoleum and temple, the government should not allow any community to take any steps that could lead to communal tension there or disrupt mutual brotherhood and harmony. The government must take this matter seriously and, if necessary, take strict measures." Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders also criticised the ruling party, claiming that the attack was part of the "conspiracy" to spark communal tensions. SP MLA Atul Pradhan, speaking to IANS, said, "The BJP has conspired to create communal tensions in Fatehpur. They are trying to spread anarchy." Kanpur SP MLA Mohammad Hassan Roomi claimed a "land mafia" was exploiting the BJP's agenda to seize property, demanding the government investigate the role of BJP members in the matter. Earlier on Monday, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of divisive politics, saying, "Only when society is divided and hatred is spread will the BJP be successful in politics. These people are following an ideology created by the British." He also recalled earlier communal incidents in Fatehpur, including the demolition of a mosque deemed "illegal" and a separate incident in which a youth was killed, with action taken only after public pressure.
