Finance commission reviews devpt works in Varanasi
Varanasi: A 15-member delegation of the 16th Central Finance Commission, led by Chairman Arvind Panagariya, visited Varanasi on Thursday. Upon arrival at Babatpur Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, they were welcomed by commissioner S Rajalingam, police commissioner Mohit Agarwal, and district magistrate Satyendra Kumar. Subsequently, the delegation visited Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham. After performing rituals at the temple, they received information about the corridor construction from authorities concerned. The chairman and members distributed material to the elderly at the Mumukshu Bhavan in the corridor area. The Central Finance Commission members visited the Banarasi Silk Centre, Panaya to learn in detail about the process of making Banarasi sarees. They observed the weaving of Banarasi sarees, stoles, rugs and other items on handlooms and interacted with artisans. They were shown various silk garments made on handlooms, including Banarasi sarees and ladies' suits. The delegation was impressed by the zari work on sarees made 250 years ago. Based on the suggestions from the chairman and members, manager of the Banarasi Silk Centre spoke about plans to establish a museum in Varanasi to display these ancient garments. The members also visited Rasulpur village in the Pindra development block to review the development work. During the inspection, the chairman and members inspected the Amrit Sarovar and the village secretariat. They interacted with the village head and residents to learn about the projects funded by the finance commission. Discussions were held on important tasks related to solid waste management, waste disposal and plastic waste management. The DM provided detailed information about the significance of Amrit Sarovars. The chairman and members also planted saplings by the Amrit Sarovar to convey an environmental message. They then inspected the Dr Sampurnanand Sports Stadium, reviewing new facilities like volleyball, badminton, basketball, swimming pool, tennis courts and athletics track. They expressed satisfaction with the work done at Rasulpur village and the sports stadium. The members also visited Namo Ghat and the Vishwanath Temple on the campus of Banaras Hindu University. Shah to chair Central Zonal Council meet in Kashi on Jun 24
1 2 Varanasi: Central Zonal Council meeting will be held in the city on Jun 24, chaired by Union home minister Amit Shah and four chief ministers, apart from a delegation of officials. For the first time, this meeting is taking place in any non-state capital city, perhaps in view of Operation Sindoor. Due to this, extra focus is being given on security arrangements. Talking to TOI on Sunday, divisional commissioner S Rajalingam said that after confirmation of the proposed meet, necessary preparations had begun. The proposed event is likely to take place in a hotel in Nadesar area. While Shah will chair the proposed meet, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will serve as regional vice-president. Uttarakhand Chief ministers, Pushkar Singh Dhami, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav and Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu, will also take part with their delegations of officials. The meeting of this committee used to take place in state capitals. Uttar Pradesh last hosted the meeting of this committee in Lucknow in 2018. It is the first time such a meeting is taking place in a non-state capital city. Five Zonal Councils were set up in 1957 under Sections 15-22 of the States Reorganisation Act 1956, to discuss a broad range of objectives and matters related to security, infrastructure, power, forest and environment, education, food security, tourism, transport and others. Union home minister is chairman of each of the five zonal councils, while chief minister of the host state is the vice-chairman. These councils also take up issues involving the centre and the states concerned.

Dalmandi road widening to allow easy access to Kashi Vishwanath Dham
Varanasi: From a narrow street full of bottlenecks, the 650-metre-long Dalmandi road is in for conversion into a 17.4-metre-wide passage that will allow access to Gate No. 4 of Kashi Vishwanath Dham from Naisadak. The cost of the project is Rs 224 crore. Around 184 buildings will be affected by land acquisition process for this ambitious project, which aims to reduce load of pilgrims from Godowlia-Maidagin road by providing direct access from Naisadak, located in the middle of the Lahurabir-Beniabagh-Girjaghar crossing to widen the Dalmandi-Chowk police station road for accessing Gate No. 4 of KV Dham was approved by state govt in the 2023-24 financial year, and budget of Rs 24 crore was allocated for civil work. When ground realities were assessed after estimating number of buildings, as well as their owners and shop owners affected by the project, PWD was asked to carry out a his Apr 3 meeting with officials to review progress in development works, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed swift action in Dalmandi road widening project. Land acquisition for widening of Dalmandi Road also discussed, with instructions to expedite the process. On May 6, divisional commissioner S Rajalingam asked PWD to expedite the survey process and the department completed the survey. Clear ground for LBS Int'l airport expansion works: Kashi DC

Varanasi DC directs officials to expedite works of multi-modal terminal, freight village projects
Varanasi: Division Commissioner S Rajalingam on Monday issued strict directives for the timely completion of the ambitious multi-modal terminal and freight village projects. While inspecting the multi-modal terminal site at Ramnagar, the commissioner reviewed the proposed sewage treatment plant (STP). A joint team of the irrigation department, UP Jal Nigam, Namami Gange, and the Inland Waterways Authority of India is conducting a survey for the STP and multimedia modal jetty. The commissioner provided guidelines for the STP and inspected the vessels including MV Bengal Ganga, SL Jahnavi, the hydrogen ship (H-2 boat), and the municipal corporation boat anchored there. After taking stock of the land acquired for the freight village and multi-modal purposes to be developed by the NHLML company into a state-of-the-art Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) spanning 100 acres on the Varanasi and Chandauli border, the commissioner sought details of the work. The officials informed him that NH-7 and NH-2, located 650 meters from the project site, will be connected by road. Additionally, a 5.1 km railway line will be laid from Jeevanathpur Junction to the village, linking the New Delhi-Howrah rail freight corridor and the freight village. This will establish a freight corridor from northeast India to south India. The freight village will also be connected to the Ralhupur Multi-Modal Terminal, facilitating seamless cargo transportation to Haldia via National Waterway-1. In the future, this project will provide significant investment and employment opportunities. IWAI's Varanasi in-charge RP Pandey, along with other officials and staff, were present during the inspection. Earlier, the commissioner reviewed the progress in the ongoing development projects in Chandauli district. He asked for the prompt disposal of old revenue disputes. In view of the heatwave, he said the administration should take all precautionary measures. He directed the officials to work collectively and with team spirit and said that providing better services to the public should be their prime responsibility.
