Prime examples of the same are his movies RRR and Baahubali. For some time now, reports about the director taking up a project on the Mahabharata had been rife. While the director had kept mum when it came to confirming any information on the project, he recently did give a heads-up on the same, confirming one of the actors who would be a part of it. Speaking at a pre-release event for the film HIT-The Third Case, Rajamouli tagged Nani and said, 'Definitely, Nani will be part of my film based on Mahabharata." SS Rajamouli's next big project SSMB29 Fast forward to now, the director is shooting his next immediate project, titled SSMB29. A globe-trotting adventure in the making, the movie stars Mahesh Babu in the lead, marking their first-ever collaboration. The film also stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles. The makers have kept a strict policy against leaking any information on the movie so far. Massive sets have been constructed for the film, and it is expected to bring a grand spectacle on-screen. The project is reportedly scheduled for release sometime in 2026.

Recent news suggests that a prominent Bollywood actor has turned down a key role in the film. According to a News18 report, veteran actor Nana Patekar was considered for the role of Mahesh Babu's father in 'SSMB29'. Last year, SS Rajamouli reportedly traveled to the 'Housefull 5' actor's farmhouse in Pune to personally narrate the script. Despite Rajamouli's efforts, Nana Patekar politely declined the offer, finding the role unappealing. Massive pay offer rejected by the actor While the two had an engaging discussion, Patekar ultimately decided it wasn't a project he wanted to pursue at this time. Despite being offered a substantial remuneration of Rs 20 crore for just 15 days of shooting, Nana Patekar remained firm in his decision not to take on the role. However, he expressed interest in working with SS Rajamouli on a future project. About 'SSMB29' The film is expected to be a grand adventure thriller with mythological elements, reportedly inspired by Lord Hanuman and Hollywood's Indiana Jones. Unlike earlier rumors suggesting a two-part release, 'SSMB29' will be a single film with a runtime of around three and a half hours. The story is set against the backdrop of the holy city of Kashi, with massive sets being constructed in Hyderabad to recreate the location. The film's production is already underway, with significant portions already shot in Odisha, including epic sets and cutting-edge visuals. Nana Patekar refuses role in SSMB29 According to a News18 report, Bollywood actor Nana Patekar was in talks to join SSMB29 as Mahesh Babu's on-screen father. Last year, SS Rajamouli reportedly traveled to Patekar's farmhouse in Pune to narrate the script to him. However, the Welcome actor politely declined the offer, as he didn't find the role enticing enough. A source close to the portal revealed, 'The filmmaker had traveled from Hyderabad to Patekar's farmhouse in Pune to narrate the script. The duo had an interesting exchange of ideas, but then Patekar said, this isn't something he wants to do.' Nana Patekar was offered a whopping Rs. 20 crore fee for role in SSMB29 That's not all. Nana Patekar was reportedly offered a handsome remuneration of Rs 20 crore for his role in SSMB29, with a shooting schedule of just about 15 days. However, the deal did not materialize as Nana clearly expressed that he did not want to take on the role at this time. Nonetheless, he conveyed a desire to collaborate with SS Rajamouli in the future. SSMB29 details Returning to the film, the makers have worked hard to keep all developments under wraps.
