Village pradhan among 4 booked for distributing ‘non-veg' biryani to flood-affected people
A village pradhan and his two sons, along with another person, have been booked for allegedly distributing packets of 'non-vegetarian' biryani to flood affected people in Farrukhabad on the day of the Janmashtami festival on Saturday, when several residents were observing a fast. The matter came to light after some local residents raised objections and informed the police, an officer said on Monday. He said heavy rainfall had led to flooding in the village and nearby areas. It has been alleged that when villagers objected to being served biryani without being informed that it contained meat, the village pradhan, Mohammad Shami, verbally abused them. Circle Officer, Fatehgarh, Rajesh Kumar Dwivedi said three persons including Shami and his son, have been arrested in the case. Efforts are being made to trace the fourth accused, Dwivedi said. Shami is the elected pradhan of Raipur Chinhatpur village. The CO added that the village pradhan and others had gone to distribute food packets among the flood-affected residents. According to the police, a local resident filed a complaint on Sunday alleging that Shami, along with three associates, including his sons Saif Ali and Talib Ali, distributed biryani packets to flood victims. Since it was Janmashtami, many villagers were observing a fast. After accepting the packets, some people began eating the biryani, but soon found 'pieces of meat' in it. When they objected and confronted the pradhan, instead of addressing their concern, he allegedly abused them and remarked that many Hindus now consume meat. The complainant further alleged that people from different communities were threatened and told either to eat the biryani or throw it away. He added that the incident deeply hurt the religious sentiments of many villagers, particularly those who were fasting. During the preliminary inquiry, it was revealed that after the floods, several members of the minority community had gathered at a spot in the village, where the village pradhan distributed the packets. A few of these packets were also given to members of another community, which led to tension, a police officer said. Subsequently, villagers staged a protest demanding the registration of an FIR in the matter. The police registered an FIR at the Kampil police station against Shami, his sons Saif Ali and Talib Ali, and one Mohammad Sami alias Mustafa. The case has been lodged under BNS section 196 (Promoting enmity between different group), 352 (– Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 351 (criminal intimidation).

Pakistan's ‘first operator-led angel investing network' launched
A private, invite-only angel investing network called Dastak has been launched by entrepreneur Saif Ali, designed to support high-growth Pakistani startups across tech, direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands, and services businesses. According to a statement, Dastak brings together seasoned operators, corporate executives, and investors from Pakistan and the diaspora to back 'ambitious founders with more than just capital.' Pakistan's startups face capital crunch, need urgent reforms: i2i report 'I'm not here to chase unicorns. I'm here to help a generation of Pakistanis build companies that put food on the table, pride in the product, and power back in the hands of young people,' Ali told Business Recorder. 'Pakistan will continue to face economic headwinds in the years ahead. The only way our youth can create real change is by building new companies, hundreds or even thousands of them,' he said, adding: 'this can only happen if we mobilize both local capital and local experience.' As per the release announcing the statement, Dastak is built on a premise that has talent but needs 'deeper backing' and it wants to curate a network of strategic angels, thereby simplifying the path to early-stage investment. The network is sector-agnostic with a focus on tech and SaaS; direct-to-consumer brands and modern services - margin-rich services businesses which it said are often overlooked by traditional venture capital investors. Rather than functioning as a fund or platform, Dastak says it facilitates direct investments. Startups gain exposure to operator-angels who have built and scaled companies themselves, while angels get access to vetted deals, legal coordination, and a streamlined investment process. The current group includes founders, C-level operators, and investment professionals spanning fintech, logistics, consumer technology, SaaS, and IT services, both within Pakistan and the diaspora abroad. While individual names are not being disclosed publicly at this stage, access to the network is currently limited to those who bring deep operational experience alongside capital. To ensure regulatory clarity, Dastak says it does not offer investment advice, manage funds, or guarantee returns. It facilitates access to vetted startup opportunities and provides advisory support where helpful. Investment decisions are made solely by individual angels. The initiative's aim is to lowers the barrier to angel investing while helping startups benefit from the mentorship and expertise of experienced professionals.

Agra police deny communal angle in restaurant worker's murder
The Agra police have firmly refuted claims suggesting a communal motive behind the fatal shooting of a restaurant employee in Agra on April 23. The police maintained that the incident was not connected to the victim's religious identity and warned of strict action against those spreading misinformation that could disrupt communal harmony. The victim, Gulfam (31), was employed at a restaurant near Shilpgram Road in the Tajganj area. He was shot by unidentified assailants while shutting the establishment late on Tuesday evening. Gulfam was rushed to SN Medical College, where he was declared dead on arrival. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the police clarified that Gulfam's brother, Saif Ali - who sustained injuries in the same incident - confirmed that the attackers were unknown and made no reference to the victims' names or religion during the assault 'In the incident under the Tajganj police station limits, the injured Saif Ali categorically stated that the assailants were unidentified and did not ask the name or religion of the victim. Any attempt to circulate misleading or false information about the case on social media will be dealt with sternly,' the official statement read. Multiple police teams have been formed to identify and apprehend the accused. The incident took a new turn when a video surfaced on Instagram, featuring two individuals claiming to belong to an organisation called the 'Kshatriya Gau Raksha Dal'. In the video, they allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack, citing retaliation for a recent terrorist incident in Pahalgam. However, Agra police officials have dismissed the claims made in the video. 'The video appears to have been created for publicity purposes. There is no organisation by the name 'Kshatriya Gau Raksha Dal' active in Agra,' a senior officer said. The police have urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified content related to the case, warning that legal action will be initiated against those found spreading rumours.
