Muscat: In the enchanting mountains of the Dhofar Governorate‬⁩, more than 5,000 wild trees , Arabian Dhofari Buttontree and wild fig trees were pruned during the years 2023 and 2024, as part of a qualitative initiative to protect them and enhance their growth, and ‎The field results showed a significant improvement in tree health and growth. The Environment Authority has introduced a groundbreaking initiative focused on pruning wild trees in the mountains of Dhofar Governorate. This project aims to enhance the health of key native species, including the Arabian Dhofari Buttontree (Anogeissus Dhofaric)and wild fig trees (Ficus Acacia). By protecting these trees from environmental threats and pests, the initiative supports Oman's Vision 2040 for ecological sustainability. Scheduled to take place annually in May and June—just before the autumn season—the program has already demonstrated promising results. Field surveys have observed noticeable growth in new branches and overall improvements in tree health. Pruning statistics indicate steady progress: - 2023: 2,032 trees pruned - 2024: 3,180 trees pruned - 2025: 3,000 trees targeted for pruning The effort spans multiple areas, including Salalah, Taqah, Mirbat, Rakhyut, and Dhalkut. Experts predict that this focused approach will contribute significantly to preserving Dhofar's natural environment and ensuring sustainable practices for future generations.

Salalah: The Dhofar Municipal Council, during its meeting on Monday, reviewed recommendations and proposals from the Ministry of Interior aimed at enhancing municipal councils' role in sustainable development. The discussions focused on strengthening coordination with relevant authorities and involving the council in prioritizing developmental projects. Chaired by HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar and Chairman of the Municipal Council, the meeting commended the recent launch of Dhofar's comprehensive strategy, communication strategy, and promotional identity. These were developed in collaboration with government and private sector partners, as well as community stakeholders, to accelerate development through a shared and integrated vision. The council also hosted specialists from the Directorate General of Consumer Protection in Dhofar, who presented a visual overview of the directorate's key plans and initiatives for 2024 and 2025. Additionally, the meeting discussed outcomes from the council's main committee meetings, including proposals to establish recreational spaces in residential neighborhoods and a public park in the Wilayat of Taqa, alongside community initiatives to boost economic and social development. Members were briefed on the findings of a field visit by the Governorate Development Committee to the Wadi Dawkah Frankincense site, where they reviewed project updates and exchanged ideas on enhancing its economic viability. The council also reviewed responses from the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, the Directorate General of Housing and Urban Planning, and the Ministry of Health regarding key issues affecting the governorate and the measures taken to address them.

Dhofar endowments celebrates Quran competition winners

Salalah: The Directorate General of Endowments and Religious Affairs in Dhofar Governorate on Monday celebrated the conclusion of the "Harvest of Quran Schools" competitions for the 1446 AH, 2025 at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah. The ceremony featured a visual presentation showcasing Quran schools in Dhofar and the stages of the competitions, along with performances by students, including Quranic recitations and religious hymns. The competitions aimed to develop students' skills in Quran recitation, memorisation, and lessons from the Prophet's Sunnah, while instilling Islamic values in youth. Dr. Ahmed Mohsen Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality and patron of the event, honored 200 outstanding male and female winners. These included participants from the seventh edition of the "Harvest of Quran Schools" competition and the third edition of the "Nibras Al Huda" competition for memorising Hadiths, as well as distinguished achievers from Quran study circles in mosques and Quran schools across the governorate.
