HC Bangladesh meets Governor

LAHORE: Bangladesh is committed to strengthening ties with Pakistan in various sectors and there is a vast potential for expanding relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh in the fields of sports and culture. Bangladesh High Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Hussain said this during a meeting with the Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan at Governor House Lahore today. The bilateral meeting explored opportunities for enhancing collaboration between the two countries in diverse areas with special focus on education and trade. Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that Bangladesh and Pakistan are brotherly Islamic countries that share many values including history, religion and culture. He said that the Pakistani people love their Bangladeshi brothers and sisters. He said that there is a need to increase people-to-people contact between the two countries. He expressed the hope that a new history will be written in the relations between the two countries under the current government of Bangladesh. The governor said that Bangladeshi students can pursue higher education in the fields of medical and engineering in Pakistan. He said that the initiative of both countries to open the doors of higher education for students under the scholarship programme is excellent initiative. He said that the Punjab government can also consider providing scholarships to Bangladeshi students. He added that Pakistan and Bangladesh can take trade relations to new heights by increasing import and export in various sectors. Governor meets CPNE delegation, seeks mechanism to check fake news

LAHORE: Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said that the Pakistan People's Party is committed to upholding freedom of the press and fostering its growth. 'Responsible media plays a vital role in identifying societal issues and promoting democratic values, however, there is need to chart out a mechanism to tackle the spread of fake news on social media,' the governor said these views during the meeting with a delegation of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) led by President CPNE Kazim Khan, here at the Governor House. General Secretary of PPP Central Punjab, Hassan Murtaza was also present. The governor stressed the vital importance of the media in shaping public discourse. He said the media plays a key role in the continuity of democracy and political stability in the country. He emphasized the PPP's longstanding commitment to press freedom. He advocated for stakeholders' consultations on the PECA law, highlighting the need for a balanced approach, acknowledging that fake news is relatively low in traditional media. Expressing concern about its proliferation on social media, he suggested establishing a mechanism to curb fake news, with journalists playing a proactive role in this endeavour. The governor further said that the PPP faced media trial between 2008 and 2013, yet the PPP did not support imposing any restriction on freedom of expression. On this occasion, the delegation informed the governor about their reservations on the PECA Act. The delegation stressed on stakeholders' consultation on amendments to the PECA Act. The delegation was comprised of Ayaz Khan Senior Vice President, President Free Media Committee Irshad Arif, Ghulam Nabi Chandio Secretary General, Tanveer Shaukat Deputy Secretary General, Ijaz Khan, Waqas Tariq and other officials. Governor inquires after health of injured army personnel

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Saleem Haider Khan expressed pride in the Pakistan Army's valiant efforts, stating that the soldiers' spirit has been amplified manifold. During his visit to the Combined Military Hospital, the governor inquired after the health of Ghazi officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army who defended the country during the Pak-India tension. He emphasized that the political parties stand united in solidarity with the armed forces. He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured officers and soldiers. He paid tribute to the courage and bravery of the Ghazis. He added that the chiefs of our Navy and Air Force are keeping a close eye on the enemy. He said that if the enemy tries to commit any kind of aggression or provocation again, it will get a more decisive response than before. He said that all political parties stand by the Pakistan Army for the honour of the country. The governor also met the families of the Pakistan Army on this occasion. LAHORE: The Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has given assent to several bills passed by the Punjab Assembly. After the assent of the Governor, different bills become an act and will come into force immediately in the entire Punjab. As per details, the governor approved the Thalassemia Prevention Bill 2025. The aim of this legislation is early detection, prevention and management of thalassemia and related genetic diseases to reduce the burden of these conditions on the health system. The governor also assented the Punjab Efficiency and Conservation Agency Bill 2025, the Nexus University, Sialkot Bill 2025, the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research Bill 2025, the Next Institute of Science and Technology Bill 2025, the University of White Rock Bill 2025 and the Punjab Spatial Planning Authority Bill 2025. The governor also approved the Punjab Acid Control Bill 2025. He also assented the Finance Amendment Bill 2025. Moreover, the governor, during a meeting with a delegation of public transport companies, stated that Pakistan remains committed to fostering peace and harmony in the region. He emphasized that the Pakistan Army, Navy, and Air Force have sent a strong message to the Indian government and our military leadership is fully equipped to safeguard the country's integrity. The governor emphasized the vital role of public transport companies in facilitating safe and efficient travel for citizens to their destinations. He said that drivers should avoid over speeding so that various accidents on the roads could be averted.
