During an appearance on the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast, Selena shared: 'We met when I was 16 because we were going to possibly work together, but I didn't start releasing music until 17/18 officially, and so we saw each other around. It was nice, and then I don't know… I feel like he was an acquaintance, if that makes sense?" She added: 'To be honest, I wasn't besties. I just thought he was nice, and then we did a few songs together. Same Old Love, which was awesome, and we had a great time, nothing really there. And then I Can't Get Enough, which was with Tainy and J Balvin, didn't get it there either." Selena didn't consider Benny, 37, to be a potential romantic partner for many years. However, her attitude changed over time, and they're now set to tie the knot. The brunette beauty explained: 'I was so not… You know, when you realise you're not in that place anymore, you need to be where you are? It's all about timing to meet that person, even if I did think, 'Oh, I need to take this a step forward,' then it wouldn't have worked. Simply, you just have to be there mentally in order to move forward with something healthy." 'Then we reunited for Single Soon… it wasn't our favourite… just because I can say this cause I'm marrying him. Just really wasn't what I thought I wanted so he came in and he agrees on a lot of levels but he just came in and I was like oh 'Hi Benny' and we spoke for two hours and I asked him to hook me up with anybody that he knew that was cute and he was like, 'Oh we do these things, these dinner nights. Selena Gomez Says She's ‘Never Felt So Sure' About Marrying Benny Blanco
THE RUNDOWN: Selena Gomez is revealing the origin story of her and Benny Blanco's relationship. On the August 7 episode of the podcast Therapuss with Jake Shane, Gomez shared that she and Blanco first met when she was 16, when they were potentially going to work on music together. It didn't work out at the time (she didn't officially release music until a year or two later), so they would just occasionally see each other around. 'I feel like he was an acquaintance, if that makes sense,' she said. 'To be honest, we weren't besties. I just thought he was nice, and then we did a few songs together. [We did] 'Same Old Love,' which was awesome, and we had a great time... nothing really there. And then [we did] 'I Can't Get Enough,' which was with Tainy and J Balvin... didn't get it there either. I just thought he was funny, but I didn't think anything of it.' They later got back in the studio for 'Single Soon,' which was released in 2023. 'It wasn't our favorite,' she revealed. 'I can say this because I'm marrying him. It just really wasn't what I thought I wanted. So he just came in and I was like, 'Oh, hi, Benny,' and we spoke for two hours. I asked him to hook me up with anybody that he knew who was cute, and he was like, 'Oh, we do these things, these dinner nights. You should come,' and next thing you know, we're dating.' Gomez revealed that Blanco was initially apprehensive about mixing business and pleasure. 'He was terrified in the beginning because it was work and it's combining, and people are going to get mad. And I'm like, 'I don't give a shit. Kiss me.'' She also opened up about how she feels about getting married. 'I couldn't be more excited,' she said, though she added that a wedding isn't happening anytime soon. 'There's so much happening at the moment. He's working on some projects that he has to wrap up, and we just have things we want to finish and our own personal endeavors before we get into all the nitty-gritty. Following news that she's branching out into snack foods (at least temporarily), the Same Old Love singer shared a behind-the-scenes look at what she's been up to lately. Gomez labeled the 12-slide Instagram share with the caption, "past and present 💕 …" She started the photo dump with a glamorous shot from inside her home, in which the pop star stunned in a black halter top and her signature slicked-back hair. The Rare Beauty founder was literally glowing in natural makeup, which included an over-lined but nude-colored pout and winged eyeliner. The second photo featured Gomez and her 11-year-old sister, Gracie Elliot Teefey, snuggling together for a selfie. Other photos featured Gomez's head wrapped in gauze after a dental visit, and a selfie while absolutely killing it in a strapless white dress. Naturally, fiancé Benny Blanco made a couple of appearances, once in a mirror selfie and then again when the couple shared a quick kiss.
