Amazon US Father's Day deals drop Galaxy Watch Ultra, Watch7 prices, Galaxy Buds also on offer

A couple of days ago, we posted about a Father's Day deal from Amazon US on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. But if dad already has a phone he likes, you can pick up something to accessorize it with – a new smartwatch, for example. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is built for durability and long battery life. It has advanced health tracking features like ECG. Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra There is only one version – a 4G-connected 47mm watch. This allows it to work independently of a phone, whether to track exercise outside or because dad forgot his phone. This offer comes bundled with a 25W charger – a bit overkill for the watch (it supports 10W), but you can use it for phones too. Alternatively, the Samsung Galaxy Watch7 is available in 40mm and 44mm sizes. It's a bit more stylish than the Ultra – at least its vibe isn't so outdoorsy – and it only has Bluetooth by default, making it a good deal more affordable. There is an LTE version too, if you think that is helpful. The Watch7 is bundled with a free SmartTag2, which can be used to track keys, a backpack or anything else, really. You can also go back in time a bit and pick up the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 Classic, currently the last model with a rotating bezel. It's available in 43mm and 47mm sizes and also has a 4G option if you want it. Another piece of kit you can get is the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro. These have great sound quality, better ANC than before and the stems do make for easier controls. Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro The buds can be connected to a watch too, not just a phone. Especially one with 4G – the watch+buds combo can handle calls, stream music, even do messages with voice transcription. There's AI on hand to answer questions too. Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro $65 off Read our review Alternatively, the Samsung Galaxy Buds FE are a pretty cheap add-on, if just a watch doesn't seem enough. These don't have stems, but they have wings that keep them stable in the ear. They do have ANC too, it's just not on the level of the Buds3 Pro. Samsung Galaxy Buds FE $35 off We may get a commission from qualifying sales.

This is the biggest mistake Samsung could make with the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2

Kaitlyn Cimino / Android Authority For years, my favorite Samsung Galaxy Watch feature has been the brand's rotating bezel and its satisfying, tactile feedback. Lately, swirling rumors suggest that Samsung will bring the bezel back on the Galaxy Watch 8 after skipping it on the 7. That's all well and good, but if the company is serious about making the Ultra 2 its definitive flagship, the rotating bezel needs to make an appearance there as well. Not doing so would be a colossal mistake in my opinion. Would you like to see a rotating bezel on the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2? 0 votes Yes NaN % No NaN % I am not interested in the Ultra 2 either way. NaN % Samsung's functional rotating bezel first debuted on the Gear S2 and quickly became a standout feature of the company's smartwatches. When the Galaxy Watch 4 series arrived, it offered shoppers two options, including a bezel-touting Classic model. Then the 5 series landed with a Pro option but no Classic, and we were left without it until the 6 series. Most recently, the Galaxy Watch 7 launched without a rotating bezel option, and to my chagrin, we got the oddly shaped Ultra instead. Despite its popularity, the rotating bezel has made inconsistent appearances on Samsung's smartwatch lineups. In other words, the bezel has come and gone, despite its consistent popularity. However, the feature isn't just a design gimmick; it's a smart, functional way for users to interact with their watch. I love that it offers precise control, smooth navigation, and is invaluable in situations where using a touchscreen isn't ideal. For me, spinning through menus is much quicker with the physical bezel than with the digital one. It's also far better for everything from gloved hands to sweaty fingers. Aside from offering intuitive interaction, it also delivers a satisfying mechanical feel that makes every action feel deliberate and the device more responsive to each of my actions. Kaitlyn Cimino / Android Authority The bezel returning to the Galaxy Watch 8 is a welcome sign that Samsung is listening to its loyal user base, but the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 needs the feature just as much, if not more. As Samsung's flagship smartwatch, the Ultra 2 should stand out from the crowded smartwatch landscape and distinguish itself in the ever-growing Pro/Ultra/Suped-up model market, and the squircle shape isn't doing it. The rotating bezel could be an iconic way for Samsung to elevate its premium lineup with an enhanced user experience. It would also help justify the Ultra line's lofty price tag. Of course, adding a rotating bezel to the Ultra 2 isn't as simple as it sounds. The series is built for rugged use, and the addition of moving parts could create some engineering challenges. The bezel would need to be designed carefully to ensure it doesn't compromise the device's durability or water resistance. A great challenge with a greater reward for Samsung. It's a premium design feature that belongs on the company's premium lineup. At the end of the day, the rotating bezel is more than just a nostalgic callback to older Galaxy Watch models. It's a smart, functional feature that genuinely upgrades the user experience and provides a distinctive edge over competitors. Since its debut, there haven't been two consecutive series without a rotating bezel, but it has yet to land on any Pro/Ultra models. If Samsung can find a way to incorporate it without sacrificing the Ultra 2's toughness, I'd be much more inclined to overlook the line's other design decisions.

The $150 price at Amazon is for the Bluetooth model. Best Buy is offering the same watch for $160, which is $10 more than Amazon but still less than the usual asking price of $200. If you prefer the LTE version, this is on sale for $200, which still saves you $50. If you have a device to trade in, Best Buy might be the way to go because you can save a few more dollars. However, Amazon is the best place to purchase if you don't have a trade-in device and want to pay upfront. If the Galaxy Watch isn't of interest but you'd still like an Android-specific smartwatch, we've also rounded up the best Android smartwatches, so you can decide what's best for you. From Garmin to Google, you're sure to find one that fits your tastes. Why this deal matters The Samsung Galaxy Watch FE came out in June 2024, and although we saw a significant price drop during last year's Black Friday, this is the lowest price we've seen for the Wi-Fi and LTE model at Amazon. It's a high-performance smartwatch, especially considering that it boasts most of the same features as the Galaxy Watch 6 -- for a lot less. Should you decide to buy at Best Buy, you might be able to save even more as long as you have an eligible device to trade in.

Arthritis diagnosed in 10 minutes thanks to groundbreaking new method

Experts say a new method using body fluids can now diagnose arthritis in just ten minutes. The results, published in the scientific journal Small, also showed that osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis could be diagnosed and distinguished with an accuracy of over 94%. The technology achieved over 95% accuracy in determining the severity of rheumatoid arthritis. More than half of all people over the age of 65 experience symptoms of osteoarthritis, according to previous research, while rheumatoid arthritis is known to be a serious chronic disease that affects around one in 100 people over the course of their lifetime. Amazon slashes price of Samsung Galaxy Watch to rival Samsung in flash deal Although osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis may appear similar, scientists say they differ in both their causes and treatments, making accurate differentiation at the early diagnosis stage "critically" important. But, until now, diagnosis has relied on X-rays, MRI scans, and blood tests, which are not only time-consuming but also costly and limited in accuracy. Dr Ho Sang Jung and his research team at the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), in collaboration with Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, developed the technology that enables the diagnosis of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis using synovial fluid, contained in human joints. The researchers focused on the differences in the composition of metabolites - by-products of chemical processes occurring within the body - present in the fluid. By analysing the metabolic differences, they developed a technology capable of distinguishing between osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis within 10 minutes, as well as assessing the severity of rheumatoid arthritis. The Korean team utilised Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) technology, a phenomenon in which the optical signals of molecules are amplified by several million times. Dr Jung said: "This technology amplifies signals from trace molecules present in synovial fluid and, through a combination of AI-based analysis and mathematical algorithms, detects minute substances responsible for arthritis." The team also developed a simple and rapid diagnostic method using a sensor composed of a sea urchin-shaped gold nanostructure formed on a paper surface with high moisture absorption, enabling efficient detection via body fluids. In collaboration with Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, the research team conducted tests using the new technology on 120 patients. The researchers say that the findings show that the technology not only significantly reduces the time and cost of arthritis diagnosis, but also ensures a high level of diagnostic accuracy. Dr Jung, the lead researcher at KIMS, added: "If this technology is commercialised, it will not only aid in diagnosis but also be highly useful in monitoring treatment progress. "We also plan to continue expanding our research to cover a wider range of diseases in the future."

Samsung Confirms ‘Innovative Design' For Galaxy Z Folding Phones And Galaxy Watch

Samsung just held its Q1 earnings call, on April 30. In it, there were intriguing comments about what changes will be coming to the Samsung Galaxy Watch series, and future folding phones. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6: will the next folding phones from Samsung have new form factors? In the course of the call (transcribed here at Seeking Alpha), Daniel Araujo from the MX division. Araujo explained that 'we plan to sustain flagship centric sales with a successful launch of the new S25 Edge and continued strong sales of the S25 series,' he said There may even be different form factors for Samsung phones. Daniel Araujo commented, 'As for new form factors, we believe that beyond the form factor itself, it's essential to ensure a level of product quality and usability in real-world scenarios that's aligned with market demands and customer expectations. We are reviewing products with new form factors with a focus on securing a meaningful competitive advantage in performance and quality. The call also went on to discuss future wearables. 'For wearables, we will expand our market presence with a strengthened premium experience while expanding our lineup across all price segments. We plan to launch a new Galaxy Watch with an innovative design and enhanced health-related features,' Araujo explained. It's hard to tell if this means an all-new hardware design or tweaks to the existing look. But 'strengthened premium,' says that the higher-end of the line will be important. And at the very least the 'enhanced health-related features,' as Samsung puts it, indicates that there will be new and/or improved sensors to provide more health improvements. Let's remember that the Galaxy Watch already measures blood pressure, something Apple Watch has yet to match. There were more hints in the call, referring to the brand's folding phones, saying that 'performance, design and durability' are coming. This doubtless refers to phones like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, expected to be released later in 2025. And just as the reference to wearables mentions the line-up will be across multiple price segments, so the section on folding phones mentions, 'We plan to strengthen our product lineup in order to create new demand and expand our affordable customer base,' which chimes with reports of an upcoming folder at a lower price. Since every folding phone so far has been expensive, this is a great development. The call also, unsurprisingly, mentioned tariffs. 'I believe this is one of the most important questions due to the rapid changes in policies and geopolitical tensions among major countries, it's difficult to accurately predict the business impact of tariffs and established countermeasures, Samsung said, in answer to a question.
