UFL Week 9 By The Numbers: Cornell Powell, Justin Hall shine

Week 9 of the 2025 UFL season featured some dominant performances and down-to-the-wire finishes. The St. Louis Battlehawks, Birmingham Stallions, Arlington Renegades and Houston Roughnecks were victorious, while the San Antonio Brahmas, Michigan Panthers, Memphis Showboats and DC Defenders fell flat. [MORE: What is the UFL? Everything to know about the 2025 United Football League] Here are the numbers to know after Week 9. 5: Birmingham beat Michigan, 26-22, sweeping the season series and improving the Stallions' record to 5-0 vs the Panthers in the UFL since the start of last season (and 7-0 dating back to their meetings in the USFL). After scoring the go-ahead TD with just over 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Birmingham's defense held strong, halting Michigan's comeback attempt with four stops from inside their own 10-yard line. The Panthers will have one more chance to break their skid against the Stallions when they meet in a rematch of last year's Conference Championship Game in Birmingham in two weeks. 7: DC wide receiver Cornell Powell is up to a league-best seven receiving touchdowns on the season after his second straight multi-TD game. Powell went for eight catches for 104 yards and two TDs against Houston on Sunday, including a TD grab with three seconds left in the fourth quarter that gave DC a shot at tying the game with a 3-point conversion. The former Clemson wideout has been on a tear in the second half of the year with five TDs over his last three games. 10: Houston's Justin Hall became the first player in UFL history with back-to-back games with 10 catches. The 26-year-old Hall had 10 receptions, 126 yards, and a TD in the 24-21 win over DC. The league-leader in catches this season had 11 catches a week ago and is now up to 58 on the season – 18 clear of the next closest player in the league. 39: The 7-2 St. Louis Battlehawks have now rolled off five straight wins as they dispatched San Antonio 39-13 in their final home game of the regular season. The 39 points set a single-game high in the UFL this season. QB Max Duggan played the first half, leading the team to 21 points (including one defensive TD) before backup Brandon Silvers came on and played well in the second half as the Battlehawks tacked on another 18 points after halftime. 70: St. Louis CB Micah Abraham had a debut to remember. Playing in his first game since being signed two weeks ago, Abraham forced a fumble, scooped it up and returned it 70 yards for a TD in the second quarter on Friday night. Making the moment even more special: Micah's father, Donnie, is the Battlehawks Defensive Coordinator. 107: Arlington's Tyler Vaughns posted his second 100-yard receiving game of the season with his eight-catch, 107-yard, one-TD game in the win over Memphis. Vaughns put the Renegades ahead for good with his 41-yard TD in the third quarter as Arlington rolled to a 30-12 win. 307: Birmingham QB J'Mar Smith threw for 307 yards and two TDs in the Stallions' comeback win over Michigan. After leading the defending champs to a win off the bench two weeks ago, Smith now has his first win as a starter. Smith connected with Deon Cain for his second TD of the day with 2:22 left in the fourth quarter to put Birmingham in front. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? 2025 UFL Power Rankings: Battlehawks, Stallions rise; Defenders, Panthers fall

Week 9 of the 2025 UFL season featured some narrow wins, dominating performances and one shocking upset. The St. Louis Battlehawks took sole possession atop the XFL Conference with a 39-13 win over the struggling San Antonio Brahmas , marking the team's league-leading fifth consecutive win. The Birmingham Stallions snagged a 26-22 victory over the visiting Michigan Panthers on Saturday in what was a preview of the USFL Conference title game, while the Arlington Renegades got back on track with a 30-12 victory over the Memphis Showboats in a weather-delayed game. In the final game of the weekend, the Houston Roughnecks stunned the DC Defenders in a last-minute thriller, 24-21 . [MORE: What is the UFL? Everything to know about the 2025 United Football League ] That said, here's a look at my updated UFL Power Rankings following Week 9: 8. San Antonio Brahmas (1-8) Current odds to win 2025 title: N/A Jashaun Corbin continued to be the shining light in an otherwise dark season for the Brahmas, who were clobbered by the Battlehawks. He rushed for 85 yards on 14 rushes, which was just 19 yards short of what San Antonio was able to amass with Kellen Mond at quarterback. The former Texas A&M signal-caller finished 14-for-26 for 103 yards, while the San Antonio defense didn't do much to keep the offense in the game. In total, the Brahmas' defense gave up more than 400 yards, including 169 yards on the ground. 7. Memphis Showboats (2-7) Current odds to win 2025 title: N/A In a mostly forgettable season for Memphis, the Showboat quarterbacks E.J. Perry and Dresser Winn played a mostly forgettable game against Arlington last week. Neither threw for more than 100 yards — 89 and 83, respectively — and neither got much help from a rushing attack that accumulated just 42 yards on 20 rushes. Though the Renegades committed 11 penalties for 96 yards, the Showboats could do little to nothing to take advantage of those opportunities. 6. Houston Roughnecks (4-5) Current odds to win 2025 title: N/A Head coach Curtis Johnson has done a remarkable job keeping his team composed and engaged this season with many ups and downs, and a win against the best team in the UFL is certainly sweet. It'll serve as proof of what Houston can do in 2026, especially if it's able to return the duo of QB Jalan McClendon and WR Justin Hall. McClendon completed 21 of 30 passes for 232 yards, including 10 for 126 yards to Hall, who is the Roughnecks' best offensive weapon. Houston can secure its first non-losing season with a win this weekend. 5. Arlington Renegades (4-5) Current odds to win 2025 title: N/A In a game about pride, the Renegades showed what they might've been capable of had one or two plays gone their way prior to Week 9 and earned them the chance to play in the postseason. As it stands, an 18-point shellacking of the Showboats will have to do. QB Luis Perez completed 20 of 30 passes for 206 yards with two touchdowns, and wideout Tyler Vaughns enjoyed an outstanding day with eight catches for 107 yards and a score. The Arlington defense also recorded five sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception to help the Renegades earn a chance to finish this season without a losing record. 4. DC Defenders (6-3) Current odds to win 2025 title: +470 Despite QBs Jordan Ta'amu and Mike DiLiello combining to complete 31 of 51 passes for 371 yards, the Defenders fell to the Roughnecks in the only upset of the weekend. Two fumbles contributed to their woes, but it seemed Houston found itself playing for its pride at a moment when DC knew it was already playing postseason football. However, no team should feel good about accepting a loss to an opponent it knows it should beat. That will be the message interim head coach Shannon Harris delivers his team with postseason football just over a week away. 3. Michigan Panthers (6-3) Current odds to win 2025 title: +185 Without Bryce Perkins, former LSU quarterback Danny Etling earned another chance to start. He ended the game completing 22 of 39 pass attempts for 239 yards with two touchdowns. And while the Panthers' rushers pushed the ground game tally to over 100 yards, their defense couldn't get off the field. Of 13 third-down attempts by the Stallions, the Panthers allowed 11 conversions and did not record a single takeaway. 2. Birmingham Stallions (6-3) Current odds to win 2025 title: +280 In a game that served to decide which team would have home-field advantage in the USFL Conference Championship Game, the Stallions found a way to defeat what had been a red-hot Panthers team. J'Mar Smith's play has given head coach Skip Holtz a solid starter at quarterback, a position that has seen more rotations than a 50-yard spiral. Smith went 22-for-31 for 307 yards with two touchdowns against a stingy defense. Not only did Smith spread the ball around to 10 different receivers, but he also made sure the offense converted 11 of 13 third downs in the biggest game of the regular season. 1. St. Louis Battlehawks (7-2) Current odds to win 2025 title: +195 The Battlehawks had the luxury of knowing they play for the XFL Conference title in two weeks, and there were signs that they're still getting better this late in the season. While Max Duggan and Brandon Silvers each saw significant time behind center, the offense never showed it was out of sync, with the duo combining to complete 19 of 27 passes for 233 yards and the offense averaging better than six yards per play. The result was the kind of performance that head coach Anthony Becht knew his club was capable of all season, as St. Louis tries to win its first XFL Conference title with the best home-field advantage in spring pro football. 2025 UFL Power Rankings: Defenders take over top spot

Week 8 of the 2025 UFL season featured four games that were decided by 12 points or less. The week kicked off on Friday night with the Memphis Showboats earning a thrilling 24-22 victory over the San Antonio Brahmas in overtime. Saturday included two competitive games, highlighted by the St. Louis Battlehawks' impressive 29-28 win over the Birmingham Stallions. The DC Defenders closed out the week with a 33-30 victory over the Arlington Renegades. Following this week's action, the stage is set for the UFL Conference Championships as the Panthers will battle the Stallions on the USFL side, while the Defenders will go up against the Battlehawks in the XFL conference. [MORE: What is the UFL? Everything to know about the 2025 United Football League ] As the regular season winds down, here's a look at my updated UFL Power Rankings following Week 8: 8. San Antonio Brahmas (1-7) Current odds to win 2025 title: N/A In the battle to avoid the UFL's Wooden Spoon, the Brahmas came up short in their overtime loss to Memphis. One bright spot for the Brahmas has been the steady emergence of Jashaun Corbin as the feature back in an offense that struggled to run the ball with consistency prior to his arrival. In the loss, Corbin carried the ball 25 times for 143 yards and a touchdown. San Antonio fans would be right to wonder what their team's win-loss record might look like had he been on it from the beginning. 7. Memphis Showboats (2-6) Current odds to win 2025 title: N/A The Showboats mustered just 167 yards of offense, and quarterback Troy Williams completed just 5 of 11 passes for 36 yards. It didn't matter. The Memphis defense created three turnovers — all interceptions — and bowed its back in the second half and OT to seal the victory. After allowing 14 points in one quarter, the Showboats allowed just eight in the second half and overtime combined. 6. Houston Roughnecks (3-5) Current odds to win 2025 title: N/A Quarterback Jalan McClendon threw the ball 50 times, completing 30 passes for 318 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in a loss that knocked Houston out of postseason contention. However, the Roughnecks still have a chance to finish the season without a losing record, which would be a first for a CJ Johnson-led team. While the offense did its job, scoring 18, converting 7 of 14 third-down attempts and racking up 441 yards of offense, the Roughneck defense had few answers for a Michigan team that managed to score 27 in the first three quarters of the game. 5. Arlington Renegades (3-5) Current odds to win 2025 title: N/A Luis Perez's final pass of the game was picked off, which ended Arlington's chances of making the postseason. It was a cruel way to finish the game for Perez, who threw for 350 yards and completed at least two passes to seven different receivers in the loss. With less than a minute to play and in field-goal range, Perez opted for a fake spike and then threw the ball into the waiting arms of a DC Defender who ran out the clock. The Renegades will have to watch the Defenders and Battlehawks play for the right to call themselves XFL Conference Champions. 4. Birmingham Stallions (5-3) Current odds to win 2025 title: +320 In his first start, J'Mar Smith completed 14 of 27 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns. His 65-yard TD pass to wideout Deon Cain was the longest scoring play of the season for the Stallions. The Stallions secured a spot in the USFL Conference title game with Houston's loss to Michigan, despite their one-point loss to St. Louis. 3. St. Louis Battlehawks (6-2) Current odds to win 2025 title: +225 The Battlehawks ran through the Stallions for 173 rushing yards. St. Louis clinched a spot in the XFL Championship Game and earned a big win against the defending UFL champs, who they could meet again in the UFL title game. 2. Michigan Panthers (6-2) Current odds to win 2025 title: +175 With MVP hopeful Bryce Perkins suddenly pulled out of the contest due to an ankle injury just before kickoff, Danny Etling was inserted into the starting lineup and helped the Panthers clinch their berth to the postseason. He completed 14 of 22 passes for 167 yards with three TDs — including one for 35 yards to wideout Devin Ross. The Panthers will play the defending UFL champions twice in the next three weeks and find out just whether they're the best team in the USFL. 1. DC Defenders (6-2) Current odds to win 2025 title: +425 The Defenders clinched a spot in the UFL playoffs for the first time after former Thorpe Award winner Deandre Baker picked off the final pass in their 33-30 win over Arlington. MVP contender Jordan Ta'amu threw for 240 yards and two touchdowns in the win. A big-play offense and aggressive defense have made DC one of the two best teams in the league all season.
