Marvel to skip Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 amid Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars delay
Panels focused on comics and video games are still on the schedule, and the studio will host a booth promoting The Fantastic Four: First Steps Marvel Studios is officially stepping away from San Diego Comic-Con's Hall H stage this year. While the studio will still have a presence at the July 24–27 fan convention, reports have confirmed it won't be hosting its signature Saturday night presentation in the massive Hall H arena. The decision comes just days after Disney and Marvel pushed the release of Avengers: Doomsday to December 18, 2026. The highly anticipated film had previously been a key piece of the studio's promotional plans, and sources say the revised timeline prompted Marvel to sit this year out in terms of big-screen reveals. With Secret Wars also slated for the following December, the studio is now positioning itself for a larger splash at Comic-Con 2026.

Marvel Studios Hall H Status Revealed for 2025 San Diego Comic-Con
Marvel Studios' status for the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con has been revealed, as has their plans for their legendary Hall H panels. According to a new report from THR's Heat Vision newsletter, Marvel will not be hosting a panel at Hall H this year at San Diego Comic-Con. With The Fantastic Four: First Steps set to release on the Friday of SDCC and Avengers: Doomsday now releasing closer to the end of 2026, Marvel seems to be taking a one-year break from their infamous panels. THR's reporting notes that the thinking within the company is that, with multiple films in production and set to release so close to the event, it didn't feel like the right time to have a panel. That doesn't mean they won't be at conventions, though. Marvel will be at this weekend's CCXP Mexico, and will still have a massive presence at SDCC, with panels focused on comics, games, and more still planned. Although Marvel Studios is usually a mainstay at SDCC, they have missed the show a handful of times. In 2011, the company sat out of a Hall H panel with The Avengers in production. 2015 and 2018 also marked years the studio stayed home, and then in 2020, 2021, and 2023, the company was away from the convention due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Hollywood strikes, respectively. Last year, Marvel Studios returned to Hall H in glorious fashion. Not only did Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman appear, but the company also announced Avengers: Doomsday in a major way, with Robert Downey Jr. revealing he would be Doctor Doom at the end. SDCC is set to take place from July 24-27, 2025, in San Diego, California. (Source: The Hollywood Reporter)

Marvel Reveals Reason for Asterisk on ‘Thunderbolts' Billboard – and It's a Major Spoiler
The big spoiler around 'Thunderbolts' is finally out of the bag. Marvel has officially revealed what that haunting asterisk means on the advertising for its latest film. A newly revised billboard off of Sunset Plaza Drive in Los Angeles has completely removed the word 'Thunderbolts*' and replaced it with 'The New Avengers.' The new text – and apparently, new film title – appears above the photo of a cereal box featuring the seven leading ensemble characters. Marvel's marketing campaign around 'Thunderbolts' has been one of the most experimental ones the studio has tried in years. In addition to the asterisk, which prompted months of speculation after it first appeared in March of 2024, the movie also released an A24-style trailer as well as a limited edition collaboration with Wheaties. Star David Harbour even dressed as his character Red Guardian during a panel for the movie that took place at San Diego Comic-Con. The billboard for 'THUNDERBOLTS*' has officially been changed to 'THE NEW AVENGERS' — Marvel Updates (@marvel_updat3s) May 5, 2025 Now that the film's been out past its no-spoilers date, the studio revealed a new title for the film, a nod to its big reveal: These are now the New Avengers. Presenting Marvel Studios' #̶T̶h̶u̶n̶d̶e̶r̶b̶o̶l̶t̶s̶* # playing only in theaters. Get tickets: — Marvel Studios* (@MarvelStudios) May 5, 2025 The 36th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, 'Thunderbolts' is directed by Jake Schreier with a screenplay by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo. 'Thunderbolts' is more like 'The Suicide Squad' than 'The Avengers' as the movie follows a group of unconventional antiheroes who are forced to team up to take down a dangerous threat. The movie stars Florence Pugh ('Midsommar,' 'Little Women') as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan ('Pam & Tommy,' 'A Different Man') as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour ('Stranger Things') as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen ('Black Mirror,' 'The Stranger') as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko ('Quantum of Solace,' 'Treason') as Taskmaster and Wyatt Russell ('Black Mirror,' 'Lodge 49') as John Walker. The movie saw $76 million over its opening weekend, which is in line with pre-release projections for the movie but is less than the $89 million 'Captain America: Brave New World' made during its three-day opening.
