Local MMA fighter set to make first appearance on main card

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Mixed Martial Arts is set to make its return to the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls next week. Cheyanne Bowers is preparing for her first fight since losing the LFA Interim Women's Flyweight Title in January. 'Ultimately, it doesn't matter what my last fight was, I just keep trying to improve, keep the ball rolling and show up on fight night,' Sioux Falls MMA fighter Cheyanne Bowers said. The Sioux Falls resident is currently training outside the cage at the Sanford Fieldhouse for an April 18th bout at the Pentagon. New court docs unsealed in SF officer shooting 'I get to be on the main card, which is the first time, here in Sioux Falls, which is super exciting,' Bowers said. With LFA 207 on the horizon, Bowers will scale back her workouts soon, just not yet. 'Ten days out, we're wrapping up the last week of camp. It's the last bit of high-intensity workouts,' Bowers said. 'We do sled pushes, rope pulls, med ball work, we do some endurance aspects on the rowing machine,' Sanford Sports senior strength & conditioning coach Kaity Soukup said. Kaity Soukup is a senior strength & conditioning coach and says consistency is key at this stage of the game. 'Coming in, she knows what to expect and she's like 'we got this down, we're ready to go',' Soukup said. Another important aspect of Bowers' training is her diet. 'I want to help her make her weight class, but I don't want her to lose to much energy or start to lose muscle mass when we're cutting that weight,' Sanford Sports senior sports dietician Natasha Hansen said. 'Natasha here has been amazing helping me figure out all of carbohydrates, the macros that I need, fiber and sodium as we get closer into the water cut during fight week,' Bowers said. A team effort that's allowing Bowers to focus on fighting. 'Without them there'd be a lot more nonsense on my mind other than just working hard and performing well, so super grateful for everybody here,' Bowers said. LFA 207 is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 18th, with the first of eleven fights at the Sanford Pengaton. The main card — including Bowers — is scheduled to begin at 8:00.
