Yuki Ohashi's target for his second season at Blackburn Rovers
Despite a promising first season in English football, Yuki Ohashi believes he has more to offer at Ewood Park. The 28-year-old's goal at Sheffield United on the final day saw the forward reach double figures for the campaign. Advertisement Ohashi hit the ground running following his switch from Sanfrecce Hiroshima last summer, with goals in his first three appearances for Rovers. He also bagged a brace against Bristol City but his momentum was halted by injury, having to wait until Boxing Day for his next goal against Sunderland. Ohashi - who had already been playing in the J League for several months before heading to Lancashire - had another spell on the sidelines after the turn of the year but netted against Cardiff following his return. The attacker scored three more goals in his last six games of the season to finish as Rovers' top-scorer, overtaking Andi Weimann whose campaign had been cut short by a knee injury. 'It's important to keep doing and keep scoring all season. I have to score for the team and I have to work for the team.' Ohashi had been hoping to make another appearance for Japan against Indonesia but was an unused substitute as they cruised to a 6-0 victory. The forward made his first start for the national team against Australia last week, getting 70 minutes under his belt. His first senior call-up came last October following a positive start in the Championship. Japan had already qualified for the World Cup as Group C winners. Their next games are friendlies against Mexico and USA in September.

Can Singapore's Sailors grab eyes from English Premier League?
SEOUL -- An administrative error in Japan could be a catalyst for change in Singaporean soccer. On March 5, Sanfrecce Hiroshima defeated Lion City Sailors 6-1 in the quarterfinal of the AFC Champions League Two, Asia's second-tier club tournament. However, it soon transpired that Hiroshima had fielded an ineligible player, meaning the Sailors won 3-0 by forfeit. As a result, the team is the first from Singapore to reach a continental Asian final, where it will face Sharjah FC of the United Arab Emirates on May 18.

Hiroshima stripped of victory after fielding suspended player
March 9 (Reuters) - Sanfrecce Hiroshima had their Asian Champions League Two quarter-final first leg win over Lion City Sailors overturned after the Asian Football Confederation deemed the Japanese club to have fielded a suspended player. The J-League outfit secured a 6-1 victory over the Singaporeans in Hiroshima on Wednesday but must forfeit the match for fielding Valere Germain, who should have been serving a three-match ban, the confederation announced late on Saturday. Lion City were awarded a 3-0 first leg win, while Hiroshima received a $1,000 fine and forfeited half their $160,000 participation fee. Germain joined Hiroshima from Australia's Macarthur FC last month and was included in Sanfrecce's squad to play Lion City before completing his suspension for conduct in last year's AFC Cup competition. The French forward came on in the second half against Lion City and netted his side's sixth goal with 16 minutes remaining as Hiroshima looked set to cruise into the semi-finals of the continental competition. Hiroshima will now go into Wednesday's second leg at Singapore's Jalan Besar Stadium needing to overturn a three-goal deficit to advance to the last four.
