"Rahul Gandhi's efforts brought caste census to forefront": MP Congress Chief Jitu Patwari

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 4 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari on Tuesday praised the enthusiastic reception given to Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Bhopal, describing him as the 'hero of the caste census.' He credited Gandhi's persistent efforts to bring the issue to the forefront and influenced the Centre to consider the demand for a caste-based census. 'The way the citizens of Madhya Pradesh welcomed the hero of the caste census on the streets of Bhopal was unprecedented. Also, the way Congress workers welcomed Rahul Gandhi here was very touching. I am proud of my leader who proved the saying true, 'the world bows down -- what it needs is someone who can make it bow',' Patwari told ANI. When asked about the ongoing 'Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan' and whether it could help the Congress return to power in the state, Patwari expressed strong confidence. 'We are political workers and have a political party. It is the responsibility of every political party to serve the public after getting in power. 500 per cent sure we will be in power and serve the public as well,' he added. As part of the Congress' organisational strengthening efforts, Rahul Gandhi visited the state capital on Tuesday to lead various meetings and programs under the 'Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan' (Organisation Rejuvenation Campaign). After the meeting, senior Congress leader Kamal Nath stated, 'There was enthusiasm among all the Congress workers -- this is proof that the Congress is strong and all theses (workers) believe in Rahul Gandhi. He explained all the details about how the party will be rejuvenated and AICC appointed observers will engage with everyone to ensure that the right District Congress Committees are formed.' Congress MLA Jaivardhan Singh, son of senior leader Digvijaya Singh, described the campaign as a mission to build grassroots leadership across the state. 'The message is very clear, 'Sangathan Srijan' is a mission through which observers have been appointed from AICC and their sole responsibility will be to visit districts and bring in new people, especially from major towns. The focus is on preparing strong leaders -- horses for the long race -- and making them active through this mission,' Singh told ANI. He further thanked Rahul Gandhi for investing time in Madhya Pradesh Congress and expressed confidence that the initiative would significantly strengthen the party in the state. Additionally, Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma added that Rahul Gandhi's Bhopal visit was entirely focused on internal party matters and leadership renewal. 'Rahul Gandhi's visit to Bhopal today was entirely focused on party affairs and party rejuvenation. His speech made it clear that from now on, District Presidents will not be appointed based on recommendations. Instead, strong and capable individuals will be elected -- those who will have the authority to distribute tickets for the councillor, Assembly, and Lok Sabha elections. Such will be the power of the new District Presidents,' Verma said. (ANI)

"Unprecedented welcome for 'caste census hero' Rahul Gandhi in Bhopal": Jitu Patwari

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 4 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari on Tuesday praised the warm reception received by Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi in Bhopal, calling him the 'hero of caste census.' He credited Rahul Gandhi for compelling Prime Minister Narendra Modi to agree to the demand for conducting a caste-based census. 'The way the citizens of Madhya Pradesh welcomed the hero of the caste census on the streets of Bhopal was unprecedented. I am proud of my leader who made (PM) Narendra Modi bow down that the caste census will happen,' Patwari told ANI. Rahul Gandhi arrived in Bhopal on Tuesday for a series of party-related engagements. According to the scheduled program, the Congress leader is set to chair a meeting of the Political Affairs Committee at the state Congress office and discuss the current political situation in Madhya Pradesh with senior party leaders. While addressing a Congress workers' convention, Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at PM Modi, alleging that he yielded to US President Donald Trump's request to ease tensions between India and Pakistan. 'When Trump signalled, Modi ji picked up the phone and said, 'Modi ji, what are you doing? Narendra Surrender' and with 'ji hizoor', Modiji abided by Trump's orders. You would remember a time when a call didn't come, instead the 7th fleet came (from the US), in the 1971 war (the Bangladesh Liberation War), and Indira Gandhi said that she would do what she had to do. This is the difference. This is their (BJP-RSS) character; they are all like this. Since the Independence movement, they have had this habit of writing letters of surrender,' he said. As part of his visit, the Congress leader will also interact with MPs and MLAs and hold discussions on Sangathan Srijan with party representatives. Additionally, he will attend a special meeting with newly appointed All India Congress Committee (AICC) observers assigned to each district in the state. (ANI)

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 3 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav targeted Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for not removing his shoes while paying a floral tribute to the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in Bhopal. Speaking to the media, Mohan Yadav said, 'I got information about the Lok Sabha LoP's visit... But I did not like the fact that he did not take off his shoes while paying tribute to his grandmother (Indira Gandhi). This is not in alignment with our culture, we maintain sensitivity...' Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to his grandmother and former PM Indira Gandhi as he arrived in Bhopal. He is set to attend various programmes in the city as a part of the Congress's 'Sangathan Srajan Abhiyan' (Organisation Rejuvenation Campaign). It is a matter of good fortune for us that the warrior of social justice, Rahul Gandhi, is visiting Bhopal today to start the campaign of Sangathan Srijan, laying the foundation stone.' He said that the campaign aims to develop a new structure of the organisation, maintaining transparency from the village level to the ward level and develop new thoughts in the Congress party. (ANI)

Congress may have to tweak timelines for Sangathan Srijan

The Congress may have to tweak the timelines for the Sangathan Srijan exercise a bit as most of the district party units have not been able to set up their executive committees even as the May 15 deadline inches closer. The Sangathan Srijan is an initiative aimed at revamping the organisation. As barely a few district units have been able to set up the executive committees, the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) is working with the new District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents and other leaders almost round the clock to ensure that the process is completed by the deadline. 'Yes, we are in the process of doing so and will let you know once this is completed,' Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Rai said. A control room set up to monitor Sangathan Srijan at the UPCC headquarters is consistently taking stock of the situation. The party leadership is being apprised of the progress made on this front from district to district. Besides setting up the district level executive committees, the DCCs have to allocate work to the new office bearers at the block, district panchayat and assembly constituency levels by May 15. The DCCs also need to identify five good orators and five spokespersons and send their names to UPCC headquarters by the deadline. The DCCs have been asked to set up control rooms and identify leaders with a strong academic and ideological background to be trained as master trainers following screening at the state level. The master trainers would be asked to impart training to the party cadres in every district. All India Congress Committee (AICC) has convened a meeting to review the prevailing situation in New Delhi on May 14. 'Yes, we will review the situation with AICC secretaries, UPCC president Ajay Rai and Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhana Mishra 'Mona. We will make some adjustment in the timelines to set up the district executive committees and completion of other work to constitute the district level organisational teams,' said AICC general secretary incharge of UP Avinash Pandey. UPCC is also in the process of being revamped and the party is yet to announce the new state executive committee. Senior party leaders, including Pandey, Rai, former Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) presidents and others, had assembled at the UPCC headquarters in Lucknow from January 7 to 13, 2025 to interview Congress leaders from all the 75 districts to select new office bearers. A list of new District Congress Committee (DCC) and City Congress Committee presidents was announced on March 20. There are some complaints about the last-minute changes made in the list of new office bearers. The party leadership is considering a review of the list in respect of certain districts.
