Karnataka Shocker: Epileptic Woman Killed By Husband, In-Laws, Probe On

In a shocking incident in Karnataka's Belagavi district, an epileptic woman was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws, who attempted to project it as an accident. The accused, identified as Santhosh Honakande, a resident of Mallabad village near Athani town in Belagavi district, his father Kamanna Honakande, and his mother Jayashree Honakande, have been arrested. The victim has been identified as Renuka Honakande, a graduate in Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS). According to the police, Renuka's husband, Santhosh, a mechanical engineer, conspired to murder her, and his parents executed the plan. As per the conspiracy, Jayashree took Renuka to Madubhavi village under the pretext of visiting a temple. They stayed there until evening and returned at night. They got off the bus around four kilometres from their village, near the main road. Jayashree then called her husband Kamanna to pick them up on his motorcycle. After travelling about a kilometre, Kamanna stopped the vehicle at an isolated spot. There, he and Jayashree strangled Renuka to death using her saree. To make the murder appear accidental, they tied the body to the motorcycle and dragged it for approximately 200 metres along the road. Subsequently, they called the Athani Police and claimed that Renuka had fallen from the bike and died. The police sent the body for a post-mortem, and the preliminary report revealed that the cause of death was suffocation, not injuries from a fall. When the police questioned Kamanna, he eventually confessed to the crime. Further interrogation confirmed the involvement of Jayashree, who was also arrested. The investigation then uncovered that Santhosh had orchestrated the entire plan. He was later arrested as well. According to the police, Santhosh and Renuka were married in 2020 and were reportedly happy for the first three years. Later, Santhosh discovered that Renuka was epileptic, which upset him. He was also distressed that she had not conceived a child. During this period, Santhosh began an extramarital relationship with a woman in Maharashtra, where he was working. Santosh started harassing Renuka, and his parents supported his behaviour, trying to force Renuka to leave the house on her own. After his partner in Maharashtra became pregnant, Santhosh hatched a plan to eliminate Renuka. In an attempt to avoid legal consequences, he had the murder carried out by his parents.

Kollam court sentences CPM supporter to life imprisonment for RSS leader murder

KOLLAM: Kollam Additional Sessions Court on Wednesday sentenced Sajeev, alias Kali Sajeev, a native of Pattathanam, to life imprisonment for the 1997 murder of RSS leader Santhosh. Sajeev, the second accused in the case, was also fined Rs 2 lakh. In default of payment, he will have to undergo an additional one year of imprisonment. The sentence was pronounced by Additional Sessions Judge S Subhas. According to the prosecution, Sajeev, along with other accused, attacked Santhosh with a sword, inflicting fatal injuries to his neck and other parts of his body. The murder was allegedly motivated by political rivalry, in retaliation for the earlier killing of DYFI leader Sunil Kumar, in which Santhosh was an accused. Santhosh was attacked around 8.45 pm on November 24, 1997, at Manichithode in Pattathanam while he was with his friend Vijayakumar. The prosecution said CPM activists targeted Santhosh in revenge for the murder of Sunil Kumar, an office-bearer of the DYFI's Apsara Junction unit.

Fake certificate racket busted in Kerala's Kasaragod, three arrested

The Hosdurg police have uncovered a racket based in Kanhangad in Kasaragod, Kerala, involving the fabrication and distribution of fake certificates and identification documents. Three individuals were arrested in connection with the racket, which allegedly produced forged university certificates, Aadhaar cards, passports, international driving licences and work experience documents. The arrested have been identified as K. Santhosh (45), owner of a computer centre in Puthiyakotta, P. Raveendran (51), a native of South Kanhangad currently residing in Muzhakoth, Cheruvathur and H.K. Shihab (38). The arrests were made following a coordinated operation led by DySP Babu Peringeth and sub inspectors T. Akhil and Sharangdharan. Acting on a tip-off, the police carried out searches at multiple locations, including the suspects' houses and the premises of the computer centre. Over a thousand counterfeit documents, hard disks, mobile phones and computers were seized during the raids. At Shihab's residence, the police discovered printers, blank certificates and stacks of special paper used to mimic official documents. In a parallel raid at Raveendran's house, led by Cheemeni Inspector Anil Kumar, more forged materials and equipment were recovered. According to Mr. Peringeth, the trio formed a well-oiled unit with defined roles. Raveendran, an experience DTP operator, was responsible for crafting the fake documents using digital editing tools. Once prepared, the documents were printed and processed at Shihab's house, who also took charge of distributing them to customers. Santhosh, the owner of the establishment, reportedly provided the infrastructure and was fully aware of the operation. 'The volume of forged materials seized and the variety of documents produced suggest that this is not a one-off incident. It is a deep-rooted racket with possible connections outside the district,' said Mr. Peringeth. He added that detailed questioning of the accused is ongoing and more arrests are likely as the investigation progresses. Th police suspect that the racket was operating for several years and may have catered to clients across the State and even outside Kerala, offering on-demand fake documents for academic, employment and immigration purposes. The arrested individuals are set to be produced in court on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the police are combing through seized data and communications to identify potentials clients and collaborators.
