Javed Akhtar Posts, Then Deletes "Please Share This" Tweet With E-Gates PSA
Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar found himself at the centre of a social media storm after accidentally posting a note on X (formerly Twitter) that seemed to hint at a paid promotion of eGates, or automated gates, to facilitate a faster and more efficient immigration process. Hours later, the post, which included a "please share this" note, was swiftly deleted. Javed Akhtar then shared an ad promoting eGates. In the follow-up note, he wrote, "This is an ad about more efficient device at the airport. I thought frequent fliers should know about it." This is an ad about more efficient device at the airport . I thought frequent fliers should know about it — Javed Akhtar (@Javedakhtarjadu) July 24, 2025 Earlier in the day, Javed Akhtar had shared the same video on his timeline but apparently forgot to delete the attached message, which read, "Sir, this is the official video by the Ministry of Home Affairs for e-Gates for immigration. Sir, please share this video; this will spread awareness among people of India." The video was presumably sent to Javed Akhtar as part of a campaign by the authorities from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The series of tweets remained visible on his X page for over two hours. On being told that the film was shot before the Pahalgam attack, Javed Akhtar said, "Ab kya karein bechara. The movie was shot earlier. Usko pata toh nahi tha ki aisa hoga. Iss mein Pakistani aadmi ka paisa toh nahi doobega, Hindustani ka paisa doobega. Toh phir kya faayda?" He added, "Usko pehle pata hota yeh hone wala hain, toh woh thodi na leta Pakistani actress. I think the government and the censor board should look at the situation with a little sympathy. And say that don't do this again, but since you made this film before, then release it. But it should not happen again." Known for his work in Hindi cinema, Javed Akhtar is credited with writing films like Sholay, Silsila, Seeta Aur Geeta, Deewar and Don.

Anupam Kher opens up on the Diljit Dosanjh, Hania Aamir controversy: 'Can't see my family get hit or my sister's sindoor get destroyed for art'
Diljit Dosanjh has been in the news ever since the release of his film 'Sardaarji 3' for casting Hania Aamir in his film and also promoting it, after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and ' Operation Sindoor '. The film did not release in India but in other parts of the world and several film industry organizations, including the All India Cine Workers Association and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees, expressed outrage. They also demanded a total ban on Diljit Dosanjh's activities in India, including his concerts. As many celebs have weighed in on the issue and given their views on what they think is right, Anupam Kher has also opened up on it. The actor-director said during a chat with NDTV, 'It's his fundamental right. He has full freedom to exercise his right and he should be given freedom to exercise it. I can say from my point of view that maybe I wouldn't do what he did.' He further elaborated, 'I'd say, 'You slapped my father but you sing very well, you play very good tabla, so you come and perform at my house'. But I wouldn't be able to do that. I am not that great," he admitted. 'I won't hit him back, but I won't give him the right… The rule that I practice at my home, I practice in my country. I am not that great that I could see my family get hit or see my sister's sindoor get destroyed for art. I'll not blame anybody or say that this is right or wrong; they need a conversation. "

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday continued with his jibes at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his foreign visits, singling out his 2015 stopover in Pakistan. CM Bhagwant Mann speaking during the Punjab Vidhan Sabha session in Chandigarh on Friday.(Ravi Kumar/HT Photo) 'It seems that when the PM is flying in his plane, he looks down and asks, 'Which country is that?' When told it's so-and-so, he says, 'No worries, we will reach an hour late where we are going; let's land here now.' He decides to land just anywhere. That's how he landed in Pakistan too,' Mann, a comedian-turned-politician, said in Punjabi in the state assembly on Friday. Mann referred pointedly to PM Modi's 2015 surprise visit to Pakistan to meet the then Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif. We cannot go to Pakistan, but he can land there!' Mann remarked. In 2015, Modi was returning home after a visit to Russia and a halt in Afghanistan when he decided to make a stop in Pakistan too. No effect of MEA rebuke CM Mann had made similar comments about PM Modi's visits at a function earlier this week, after which the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, without naming Mann, that the comments were 'irresponsible and regrettable'. Outside the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Friday, Mann was asked specifically about the MEA response, to which he replied: 'Do I not have the right to ask about foreign policy?' Also read: Punjab CM defends Diljit's 'Sardaarji 3' with Hania Aamir He added, "I will continue to ask in the future as well. With 140 crore people in the country, he should engage with them and address their concerns. He says he will stop the Ukraine(-Russia) war, but he can't even resolve water issues between Punjab and Haryana." Mann had joked about how PM Modi might be visiting random, non-existent countries like 'Magnesia', 'Galveaisa', or 'Tarvesia', suggesting that his visits are not substantial. Defends Diljit's movie Inside the House on Friday, Mann was acerbic as he defended Diljit Dosanjh over the casting of a Pakistani actor, Hania Aamir, in his latest movie 'Sardaarji 3'. That is when he brought up Modi's Pakistan visit. Diljit's movie, he stressed, had been shot before the Pahalgam terror attack, after which India carried out Operation Sindoor against teror bases in Pakistan. Mann said no one could 'issue certificates of patriotism'. He also had "a message for the entire country', that 'without Punjab and Haryana, you cannot eat' as the two states 'account for 70 per cent of the country's foodgrain production'.
