Saunkan Saunkanay 2 Worldwide Opening Weekend Box Office: Ammy Virk, Sargun Mehta & Nimrat Khaira starrer collects Rs 14.50 crore in 3 days; Aims to emerge HIT
Punjabi film Saunkan Saunkanay 2 looks set to emerge a winner at the Indian box office after a long time. The film grossed Rs. 8 crore in India during its first weekend, with a solid trend over the weekend. Additionally, it earned Rs. 6.50 crore (USD 750K) overseas, giving the Sargun Mehta, Nimrat Khaira and Ammy Virk fronted film a global weekend of Rs. 14.50 crore. The film had a good opening day on Friday, but there were concerns of a drop on Saturday, owing to the fact that it had some holiday support on Friday and word of mouth wasn't particularly good. However, the film did well on Saturday staying flat and then got the big Sunday surge when family audiences come in strong. The film has passed the weekend test and now it comes to Monday. A good hold today will cement the HIT status of the film, which will make it the first in nearly nine months since Ardaas 3. During the period, there were a couple of HITs overseas, some even did BLOCKBUSTER business, but domestically, it's been a drought. The box office for Punjabi films has shifted dramatically in the last couple of years, with a huge migration trend which has resulted in a shrinking domestic market and huge growth overseas. Overseas being higher than domestic used to be a rare sight, but it is a common occurrence now. That said, there's still a slightly muted sentiment surrounding Saunkan Saunkanay 2. Its first weekend numbers fall short of the original, which collected Rs. 11 crore in India and USD 950K overseas. A sequel collecting below the original is not an optimal scenario, as generally, sequels score big in Punjabi cinema. This was seen coming with the trailer and music being a notch below the original and the fact that the original wasn't probably that well appreciated. Nonetheless, it's good to see numbers being back for Punjabi films. End of the month will see a big release in Sardaar Ji 3, hope will be for it to set the box office on fire and set some new benchmarks.

Saunkan Saunkaney 2 Worldwide Box Office: Ammy Virk, Sargun Mehta and Nimrat Khaira starrer tops Rs 4 crore on day one
After almost a year, a Punjabi film finally got a start yesterday, with Saunkan Saunkaney 2 grossing Rs. 2.35 crore Approx on its first day at the Indian box office. The Sargun Mehta, Nimrat Khaira and Ammy Virk starrer grossed another USD 210K overseas, for a worldwide first day of Rs. 4 crore. The Punjabi film industry has been going through a tough patch. Since the release of Jatt & Juliet 3 in June last year, not a single Punjabi film has managed to collect Rs. 1 crore NETT on the first day. It's not like Rs. 1 crore NETT is some big number today, but such has been the state of the box office that it's been a struggle to even reach there. A few films have performed well overseas, but domestically, the industry has been struggling. The two films (Bibi Rajni and Ardaas 3) that became HITs in India were also slow starters, building momentum over time rather than opening big. Although Saunkan Saunkaney 2 has ended the drought but even here the opening is below the original film, which is not an optimal scenario. Moreover, the sequel had the advantage of a holiday in Punjab yesterday, which makes the comparison even less flattering. That said, the trailer wasn't well-received, and the original had a big chart-topping song, which was missing here. So this was kind of expected; in fact, it could have been worse. The original film saw massive weekend growth, setting Saturday and Sunday records for Punjabi films at the time. Repeating that is unlikely this time, given that day one already had some holiday support. Early audience feedback hasn't been very promising either. The film currently holds a rating of just 5.1/10 on BookMyShow, which is… bad. The hope will be not to drop today and then a growth on Sunday when family audiences come in hordes, squeezing in a healthy number for the weekend.

Saunkan Saunkanay 2 movie review: Ammy Virk faces triple trouble in this laugh-out-loud film
Saunkan Saunkanay 2 movie review: Punjabi cinema and comedy are a match made in blockbuster heaven and Ammy Virk's latest film, Saunkan Saunkanay 2, directed by Smeep Kang seems to be headed that way. The blockbuster success of Saunkan Saunkne (2022) precipitated this sequel, featuring the returning star cast of Nimrat Khaira, Sargun Mehta (in a double role) and Nirmal Rishi. Written by Amberdeep Singh, the film features the marital life of Nirmal Singh (Ammy Virk), which is complicated even further, as completely fed up with his existing two wives, he starts thinking of the possibility of a third! Saunkan Saunkanay 2 begins with a quick recap of events that unfolded in the previous film. Narrated by Nirmal Singh, as the hapless husband caught between two overbearing wives, the poor man tells of his plight as one driven to the brink of madness. Although both wives, Naseeb Kaur (Sargun Mehta) and Kiranjit Kaur (Nimrat Khaira) are sisters, they are at each other's throats all the time. They even drive their mother-in-law (Nirmal Rishi) up the wall, who is the mastermind behind getting a third wife for her son, in the hopes that he will finally find happiness. As she says, 'What's in a number?' But when Nirmal finds an Italian woman, Monica Belluci (Sargun Mehta in a double role) and brings her home, the two wives join forces to solve the 'international crisis'! The two try to lure their husband back and create hilarious situations to be nice to their husband for a change but all attempts sadly fall flat as Nirmal Singh will have none of it. Meanwhile, the entire village is comically wrapped up in this spectacle, especially as there is immense curiosity about the white woman in their midst. The comedy is pegged on several stereotypes, many of which are offensive and tone deaf but are employed within the realm of humour, all for the sake of a good laugh. The henfights between women, the obsession with land, the connivance between a mother who cannot see beyond her son's happiness, the desirability of thin women, devious women trying to take the impressionable husband for a merry ride, and so many more. These do become a bit tedious after a while, along with the high-pitch at which the comedy unfolds throughout. In Saunkan Saunkanay 2, women bicker, fight, curse, kick up a storm, manipulate, deceive but they just refuse to go down quietly. In fact, one of the most hilarious scenes is the one where Nirmal's mother narrates her falling in love with Nirmal's father and following her own heart, even unwittingly being the one responsible for the father's subsequent, untimely death. With crackling dialogues that mostly keep the momentum of the film chugging away at a good pace, the film starts dragging its feet in the second half and moves towards a predictable resolution. It also ends on a baffling note, perhaps in a hastily put together attempt to keep avenues open for another sequel. Ammy Virk, Sargun Mehta and Nimrat Khaira deliver noteworthy performances, while Khaira's dialogue delivery and comic timing is absolutely spot-on and deserve special mention. It's also nice to see the first ladies of Punjabi cinema— Gurpreet Bhangu, Seema Kaushal, Rupinder Rupi, being featured in a foot-tapping number, 'Gore Gore Mem'. The music compliments the entertainer with the songs 'Dieting', 'Mia Bella' and 'Main Nachdi'. This feel-good, crowd-pleaser is bound to become another box-office hit. Sargun Mehta Feels Punjabis Have Mastered The Art Of Comedy

Sargun Mehta is counting down the days to the release of her upcoming Punjabi film Saunkan Saunkne 2. The sequel to the 2022 comedy reunites her with co-stars Ammy Virk and Nimrat Khaira. As the release date draws closer, the lead trio is going all out to build excitement among audiences. Recently, Sargun and Nimrat sat down for an interview with a media portal, where they opened up about their experiences filming the comedy franchise, their expectations from the sequel, and the growing popularity of Punjabi cinema. In an interview with Hindustan Times, the actors shared behind-the-scenes insights into the making of Saunkan Saunkne 2, particularly the challenges of filming in the sweltering summer heat while wearing heavy padding to depict weight gain for their characters. Nimrat Khaira recalled, 'We enjoyed the first two days a lot with the new getup and all the padding. It felt very new, very nice. But, as the shoot went on, it became challenging." However, for Sargun Mehta, the overall fun they had during the creative process outweighed the challenges. 'When you are on a shoot, nothing else matters. And when it is such a comedy, even the actors enjoy while performing. The audience has fun, but the actor does too. There's no death scene in the film. So, since so much is happening, you don't think of anything else." The actress also reflected on the rising reach of Punjabi cinema, crediting streaming platforms for helping the industry break regional boundaries and attract a wider audience. She believes this is just the beginning, with Punjabi films poised to gain greater national recognition in the years to come. She further said, 'Even if we can reach out to 5 more people to invest time in us, that is a win. People are watching everything, from Korean and Turkish to English. Now, Punjabi is very close to Hindi as a language. It's not very difficult to understand." Citing her husband, actor Ravi Dubey, who is not Punjabi but understands her films, Sargun emphasised, 'I know that we don't have to create a new world for the audience. So, I feel the Hindi audience would love to watch these films, such as Saunkan Saunkane 2. And I think nobody does comedy better than the Punjabis. They've mastered the art of it. Everybody in a film – even the person doing a single scene – is so good with their comic timing. Like action is South's language of films, comedy is Punjab's." Coming to Saunkan Saunkne 2, the film has been penned by Amberdeep Singh and directed by Smeep Kang. Building on the success of the 2022 hit, the sequel reunites the beloved trio Ammy Virk, Sargun Mehta, and Nimrat Khaira in another hilariously chaotic marital saga.
