The Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka is celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Japan. The two countries established diplomatic relations on June 7, 1955, laying the foundation for a long-term partnership that has evolved over the decades into a multifaceted alliance enhancing cultural exchange and diplomatic cooperation. This partnership has also had a significant economic impact on both nations. In February 2025, Saudi Arabia and Japan signed a memorandum to establish a Strategic Partnership Council. In this context, Saudi Ambassador to Japan and Commissioner General of the Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka Dr. Ghazi Faisal Binzagr said that Saudi-Japanese relations have grown and strengthened over the past 70 years. 'The relations go beyond a mere economic partnership to reflect the depth and diversity of our ties. Today, we build on the strength of the past and harness the momentum of the present to jointly shape a new vision for the future,' the ambassador said. 'With Expo 2025 taking place in Osaka and Saudi Arabia hosting Expo 2030 in Riyadh, our two countries stand at the forefront of global exchange, showcasing the latest innovations and sustainable technologies, and contributing to shaping an inclusive future for all.' The Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka hosts hundreds of business events aimed at strengthening trade and investment relations between the Kingdom and Japan. These include presentations led by the Ministries of Investment and Commerce, as well as events highlighting the trade and investment opportunities offered by Saudi Vision 2030. Trade volume between the two countries has grown significantly over the past decade, rising from $33.4 billion to over $41 billion currently. The Saudi Pavilion aims to increase the number of Japanese visitors to the Kingdom, targeting 30,000 annual visitors before Expo 2030 Riyadh. This is part of the comprehensive Saudi-Japan Vision 2030 strategy, which includes more than 80 projects across nine sectors: culture, food and agricultural security, media and entertainment, healthcare, advanced infrastructure, finance and investment, competitive industries, energy, small and medium enterprises, sports, and education. Cultural exchange between the two countries has flourished, highlighted by Saudi Arabia's role in bringing Japanese culture to the Middle East through local manga studios, whose works will be showcased at the Saudi Pavilion in August. The Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka offers more than 700 diverse and engaging events, including daily shows and live performing arts. Since the Expo opened in April 2025, it has attracted over 500,000 visitors. On September 23, it is expected to host a variety of events and presentations in celebration of Saudi National Day.

Japan's FM Visits Riyadh to Mark 70 Years of Diplomatic Ties
Japan's Foreign Minister, Takeshi Iwaya, is set to arrive in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, on Wednesday to further strengthen bilateral relations and promote closer cooperation for advancing international peace and stability. In an opinion peace for Arab News, Iwaya hailed the leadership of the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, acknowledging the remarkable accomplishments achieved under Vision 2030. He also stressed Japan's support to this transformative plan. The Japanese Foreign Minister emphasized the significance of his visit to Riyadh being his first visit to the Middle East as foreign minister of Japan. The visit also coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Saudi-Japanese diplomatic ties, celebrated throughout 2025. Moreover, Iwaya said that Saudi Arabia and Japan are strategic partners, highlighting their deepening cooperation across various fields, including energy, education, entertainment, and emerging technologies. Iwaya also praised Saudi Arabia's active role in promoting peace, security and stability across the Middle East and the world. This includes taking the initiative to host an international conference for advancing a two-state solution to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict; acting as a mediator to end the conflict and humanitarian crisis in Sudan; and hosting talks to settle the crisis in Ukraine. In the light of this, Japan's Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country's unwavering support for the two-state solution, noting that Japan will continue to make every diplomatic effort for de-escalation, stabilization and achieving a long-term peace. Saudi Arabia Reiterates Commitment to Gaza Stability
Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its unwavering support for facilitating the safe return of displaced Palestinians to their original Gaza homes promptly during Tuesday's session in Riyadh chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Following the session, Minister of Media Salman Al-Dossary addressed the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). He highlighted the Cabinet's endorsement of the six-party Arab ministerial meeting on Palestine held in Cairo. This meeting categorically rejected any attempts at forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. It also emphasized the necessity of implementing the ceasefire agreement fully. Emphasizing Humanitarian Efforts The Cabinet stressed achieving a sustainable ceasefire and delivering humanitarian aid within the Gaza Strip. Such efforts aim to ensure safe and unimpeded relief. At the session's beginning, the Crown Prince updated the Cabinet on his meetings with Syrian and German presidents. He also briefed them about his conversation with the President of the European Council. Al-Dossary mentioned the Cabinet discussed recent developments related to Saudi Arabia's collaboration with international organizations. Strengthening Global Relations The Cabinet commended the outcomes of the recent Saudi-Japanese strategic dialogue. Furthermore, the Cabinet recognized the importance of hosting the INTERPOL Regional Bureau in the Kingdom. This decision enhances operational effectiveness against extremism, terrorism, and crime in the MENA region. Al-Dossary noted the review of recent economic gatherings held in Riyadh, including the Global Labor Market Conference. During this conference, 70 agreements were signed, benefiting over 300,000 individuals. Advancements in the Real Estate Sector The Cabinet acknowledged significant international participation at the fourth Real Estate Future Forum. This event resulted in numerous agreements expected to enhance the sector and position the Kingdom as a global real estate investment destination. Additionally, the Cabinet approved transferring licensing authority for accounting and auditing professions to the Saudi Organization for Chartered and Professional Accountants (SOCPA). Moreover, it included the Insurance Authority in the membership of the Anti-Money Laundering Permanent Committee. Global Partnerships Expand Across Sectors Other Cabinet decisions encompassed endorsing a cooperation agreement regarding personal data exchange between Saudi and Qatari governments. The Cabinet also approved memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on political consultations with Bolivia and mutual visa exemptions with Tajikistan and Azerbaijan. Moreover, the Cabinet authorized the Minister of Islamic Affairs to negotiate with Tanzania on an MoU concerning Islamic affairs. They also approved several MoUs focused on social development with Qatar and Kuwait. Lastly, the Cabinet approved cooperation agreements in health between the Saudi Ministry of Health and Cuba.
