Real Madrid agree deal to sign Alexander-Arnold early from Liverpool
REAL MADRID said on Friday they have reached a deal to sign defender Trent Alexander-Arnold that allows him to leave Liverpool early. The Spanish giants have agreed a fee, which reports in Britain said was between £8 million ($10.7 million) and £10 million, that clears the way for the 26-year-old England international to become a Real Madrid player on June 1. Alexander-Arnold's contract at Anfield would have ended anyway on June 30, allowing him to leave on a free transfer, but by paying a fee Madrid can use him in the Club World Cup, which starts in the United States on June 14. FIFA have opened an additional window for this summer, on June 1-10, allowing teams to register new players for the month-long tournament. Alexander-Arnold could make his Real Madrid debut when they face Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal in their opening Club World Cup match on June 18 in Miami. He has signed a deal until June 2031, Real said in a statement. The right-back, who has just won the Premier League title with Liverpool, came through the academy of his boyhood club and won the Champions League in 2019. He also won the Premier League in 2020 and made 352 appearances for the club. The defender joins former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid, with the Spaniard appointed as their new coach to replace Carlo Ancelotti. Liverpudlian Alexander-Arnold's close connections to the city meant that his announcement earlier this month that he was leaving the club was viewed with disgust by some supporters and he was booed in the penultimate match of the season. But after former manager Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah urged fans to remember the contribution he has made to Liverpool's success over the last six years, he was roundly cheered when he lifted the Premier League trophy at Anfield last Sunday. The defender joins a Real Madrid side which failed to win a major trophy this season. Alexander-Arnold has been criticised for his defensive application at times but brings supreme passing vision and attacking edge down the right flank. Real Madrid have struggled at right-back this season with Dani Carvajal recovering from a long-term knee injury and winger Lucas Vazquez enduring a torrid time there out of position. Real Madrid have also signed Spanish centre-back Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth as they look to bolster a back-line which was ravaged by injury this season.

Saudi top diplomat to make rare trip to occupied West Bank
Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan will visit the occupied West Bank this weekend, making him the highest ranking Saudi official to visit in almost 60 years, the Palestinian Authority (PA) revealed on Friday. Bin Farhan will lead a ministerial delegation comprised of his counterparts in Jordan, Egypt, and other Arab nations, the Palestinian ambassador to Saudi Arabia told local media, adding that the trip is intended to convey the centrality of the Palestinian cause to Arabs and Muslims. The move appears similar to the trip bin Farhan organised to Washington in the early months of Israel's war on Gaza, in a bid to showcase a united Arab front in support of a ceasefire. It also appears to be an attempt at lending credibility to the PA as an alternative to Hamas in Gaza, despite the PA's plummeting popularity among Palestinians. The trip is rare and unusual, given that the last time a Saudi official visited Ramallah, he had been appointed a non-resident ambassador to Palestine. New MEE newsletter: Jerusalem Dispatch Sign up to get the latest insights and analysis on Israel-Palestine, alongside Turkey Unpacked and other MEE newsletters Nayef al-Sudairi arrived just weeks before the 7 October 2023 Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel, and before him, King Faisal had visited in 1966. Those attacks were intended to and indeed derailed Saudi-Israeli normalisation talks, Hamas officials revealed over the course of the war. With the kingdom being the de facto leader of the Arab world, it can set an agenda with the kind of influence few of its neighbours possess - and normalising with Israel would have likely dashed ambitions for Palestinian statehood. Since 2023, Saudi Arabia has made it clear that normalisation would only be pursued with a clear pathway to a Palestinian state. Earlier this year, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman called Israel's now 19-month-long war on Gaza a "genocide", echoing assessments by the United Nations and countless rights organisations, among other leading historians and experts. More than 54,000 Palestinians have been killed so far, with some experts believing the figure to be a significant undercount. Next month, a meeting in New York co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France is expected to outline the necessity of establishing a Palestinian state, and rebuild support for the concept of the two-state solution, a plan outlined in the 1993 Oslo Accords. Several European nations have recently recognised the state of Palestine, including Ireland, Spain, and Norway.

Saudi Arabia Rebar Steel Industry Report 2025: $11.9 Bn Market Trends, Competition, Forecast & Opportunities, 2020-2030 - Advanced Manufacturing Technologies Transforming the Landscape
The Saudi Arabia Rebar Steel Market is primed for growth due to increased urbanization, population rise, and significant government investment in infrastructure as part of Vision 2030. The market benefits from advanced manufacturing and sustainability practices, despite challenges like raw material price volatility. Saudi Arabian Rebar Steel Market Dublin, May 30, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The "Saudi Arabia Rebar Steel Market, By Region, Competition, Forecast & Opportunities, 2020-2030F" has been added to offering. The Saudi Arabia Rebar Steel Market was valued at USD 5.40 Billion in 2024 and is expected to reach USD 11.94 Billion by 2030, rising at a CAGR of 13.97% Rebar steel plays a vital role in the construction industry, offering tensile strength and structural support to concrete structures. The market comprises various types and grades of rebar used in infrastructure such as buildings, roads, and bridges. Growing urbanization, a rising population, and strong government investment in large-scale infrastructure projects are key factors accelerating market expansion. Additionally, the adoption of sustainable practices and modern manufacturing technologies is reshaping production processes. As part of Vision 2030, the Kingdom is enhancing its construction landscape with initiatives focused on modernizing urban infrastructure, creating substantial demand for rebar steel across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Population Growth and Urbanization Rapid population growth and increasing urbanization are primary drivers of the Saudi rebar steel market. As urban centers expand to accommodate a growing population, the demand for residential buildings, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and commercial developments continues to rise. High-rise structures, urban transit networks, and public amenities rely heavily on reinforced concrete, thus boosting rebar consumption. The government's Vision 2030 initiative further supports urban transformation through affordable housing programs and infrastructure modernization. With Saudi Arabia's population projected to grow from 35 million in 2024 to over 40 million by 2030, and urbanization rates expected to reach 90%, cities such as Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam are witnessing an uptick in construction activity, driving sustained demand for rebar steel. Fluctuations in Raw Material Prices Volatile raw material prices represent a significant challenge for the Saudi rebar steel market. The production of rebar steel depends on key raw materials like iron ore, scrap metal, and coal, whose prices are influenced by global economic trends, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical factors. Sudden price hikes increase production costs, putting pressure on manufacturers' margins or leading to higher rebar prices for end users. On the other hand, sharp price declines can affect revenues and hinder reinvestment in production capabilities. Furthermore, the Kingdom's reliance on imported raw materials increases exposure to global market volatility. Effective cost management and diversified sourcing strategies are essential to mitigate these risks and ensure market stability. Adoption of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies A key trend in the Saudi Arabia rebar steel market is the integration of advanced technologies to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product quality. Automation and robotics are increasingly being utilized to streamline tasks such as cutting, bending, and welding rebar, ensuring precision and reducing labor-related inefficiencies. The adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies: including AI and IoT: is enabling real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and optimized energy usage across production lines. These innovations contribute to increased output, reduced operational costs, and improved workplace safety. Moreover, the focus on sustainability is prompting steel manufacturers to adopt cleaner, resource-efficient processes that reduce emissions and waste, aligning with environmental regulations and green building standards. The shift toward digitalization and smart manufacturing is reshaping the competitive landscape, making technological advancement a critical factor in market growth.
