These awards underscore the Kingdom's robust progress in fortifying its port infrastructure and logistics capabilities. Key milestones include the largest privatization contracts in Saudi port history — involving the development and operation of container terminals at Jeddah Islamic Port and King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, with investments exceeding SAR 16 billion in collaboration with the private sector. Mawani has also launched infrastructure projects worth over SAR 640 million at Jeddah Islamic Port, including berth deepening and new construction to accommodate ultra-large container vessels of up to 24,000 TEUs. These initiatives align with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy to position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub bridging three continents. Additionally, Mawani has signed agreements to develop 20 logistics parks across the Kingdom's ports, with investments surpassing SAR 10 billion. Among these is the Middle East's largest integrated logistics park, launched by Maersk at Jeddah Islamic Port with a SAR 1.3 billion investment. Saudi minister inspects Hajj readiness in Jeddah
JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia's Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh Al-Jasser reviewed the transport and logistics sector's readiness for the Hajj season in Jeddah, following earlier inspections in Makkah, Madinah, and the holy sites. At King Abdulaziz International Airport, he inspected the Hajj and Umrah Terminal Complex and Saudia airline operations, assessing preparations to handle more than 7,000 pilgrim flights and ensure smooth passenger flow. He also visited the complex's media center, which supports local and international press coverage by providing a coordinated workspace with essential resources, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday. Al-Jasser evaluated the center's technical and staffing readiness and emphasized full media preparedness for the event. He then toured Jeddah Islamic Port to inspect Saudi Ports Authority operations supporting pilgrims arriving by sea, the SPA reported. He reviewed arrival and departure halls equipped with 100 passport counters, 300 luggage carts, a health center offering vaccinations and medical services, and specialized equipment for the elderly and those with medical needs.

The new park will span an area of 197,000 square meters and aim to enhance the port's competitiveness, increase its operational efficiency, and improve the efficiency of the logistics services provided. The contract was signed by the acting president of the Saudi Ports Authority, Mr. Mazen bin Ahmed Al-Turki, and the chairman of Sultan Logistics, Mr. Ali Sultan Al-Qahtani, in the presence of several officials. This logistics park is part of Mawani's initiatives. It is aligned with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which seeks to establish logistics parks inside and outside the Kingdom's ports. The initiative aims to solidify Saudi Arabia's standing as a global logistics hub, provide reliable logistics services, drive national development, and support the Kingdom's economic and social ambitions per Saudi Vision 2030. The logistics park will feature 35,000-square-meter warehouses, administrative offices, and a yard dedicated to the storage and maintenance of dry and refrigerated containers. It will also include a re-export area, enhancing logistics services and supporting commercial movement with high operational capabilities. The new logistics park will strengthen King Abdulaziz Port's competitive advantage by offering specialized logistics services, increasing private sector participation in economic development, and promoting economic diversification. The year 2024 witnessed the launch, cornerstone laying, and inauguration of eight logistics parks and centers, with a total private sector investment of nearly SAR 2.9 billion. These investments are part of developing over 20 logistics centers under Mawani's supervision across Saudi ports, with total investments exceeding SAR 10 billion. The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has implemented all necessary measures to ensure operational readiness for receiving pilgrims, aiming to enhance efficiency and performance across all aspects of the Hajj journey, from arrival and reception to baggage handling and onward transportation to the holy cities. This effort is part of an integrated operational plan developed in coordination with relevant authorities and aligned with the broader transportation sector to serve the pilgrims. Mawani is streamlining pilgrim travel this year through three key initiatives: direct luggage transfer, advance shipment handling for smoother movement, and coordinated livestock truck transit from Jeddah to Makkah during restricted times. Saudi Arabia - The Saudi Ports Authority 'Mawani' and Alissa Universal Motors — a subsidiary of Abdul Latif Alissa Holding Group — have signed an agreement to establish a logistics zone at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, with a total investment amounting to SR300 million. The project includes development and construction works over an area exceeding 382,000 square meters for a duration of 20 years. The zone will be dedicated to import, storage, and re-export operations for vehicles and spare parts, in addition to a warehouse and storage yard. The agreement was signed by Acting President of the Saudi Ports Authority Mazen bin Ahmed Al-Turki and Managing Director of Abdul Latif Alissa Holding Group Abdullah bin Abdulmohsen Alissa in the presence of several officials from both sides. This initiative aligns with Mawani's efforts within the framework of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to position the Kingdom as a global logistics hub and a central link between three continents. It also seeks to deliver high-efficiency logistics services that support national development and empower Saudi Arabia's economic and social ambitions in line with Saudi Vision 2030. The logistics zone will offer several essential services, including ready-built warehouses spanning over 7,000 square meters for spare parts storage, and open-air storage yards with the capacity to accommodate more than 13,000 vehicles and trucks. It is noteworthy that King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam recently won the 'Port of the Year' award at the ShipTek Awards, in recognition of the remarkable achievements led by Mawani in developing the port's infrastructure. This includes the development and operation of the port's container terminals under a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model, with investments exceeding SR7 billion.
