Sawan's Last Monday: 4th August – This Remedy Can Remove Obstacles to Marriage
These days, it is often seen that despite being eligible, many young people face obstacles in getting married. By observing a fast on the last Monday of the holy month of Sawan and following certain astrological remedies, such marriage-related hurdles can be removed. According to Celebrity Astrologer Parduman Suri, the last Monday of Sawan falls on 4th August. For those desiring marriage, the simplest remedy is to offer a ritual bath (Abhishek) to Lord Shiva with saffron-mixed milk in a temple. This act is believed to remove obstacles in marriage. In addition, offer green bangles to married women on this day. You can also gift a green saree. This remedy too is said to help overcome delays in marriage. After bathing and cleansing on Sawan's last Monday, offer vermilion (sindoor) to Goddess Parvati and apply a tilak of that same sindoor on your forehead. Chant the mantra: "ॐ श्रीं वर प्रदाय श्री नमः" Also, donate milk, yogurt, white clothes, foxnuts (makhana), and white sweets to someone in need. Another remedy is to perform Panchamrit Abhishek of Lord Shiva and offer five coconuts to Mahadev, while chanting the mantra: "ॐ सृष्टिकर्ता मम विवाह कुरु कुरु स्वाहा" Remedy for Chandra Dosha The last Monday of Sawan is not just for those seeking marriage. If someone is facing mental stress or financial loss due to Chandra Dosha in their horoscope, they should recite the 'Chandrashekhar Stotra' on Sawan Mondays. This helps reduce the negative effects of the moon. Those experiencing financial hardship should light a ghee lamp near a Bilva tree on Sawan's last Monday. Doing so is believed to quickly attract the blessings of Lord Shiva. Written By: Celebrity Astrologer Parduman Suri..!! From mafia and mosquitoes to model city, Yogi praises Gorakhpur's transformation
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday described Gorakhpur as a 'model city' as he highlighted its transformation from a place once notorious for mosquitoes, mafia and chaos to a benchmark of urban development and cleanliness. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath in Gorakhpur on Wednesday. (HT Photo) He was speaking at an event on the Municipal Corporation campus as he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 177 infrastructure projects worth ₹253 crore. He also launched the state's first Urban Flood Management Cell for early warning and disaster prevention. Emphasising transparency, accountability and uncompromised quality in development projects, he said, 'Every rupee spent is the people's money and must be utilised responsibly.' The chief minister acknowledged the cooperation of the people of Gorakhpur in developmental efforts, including the sacrifice of personal property for road widening. 'As a result, the city now has wider roads and an improved drainage system,' he said. Drains, which were once choked by mafia filth and became breeding grounds for mosquitoes, are now a thing of the past, he asserted. The chief minister lauded the city's achievements under the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25: 4th place nationally among mid-sized cities (population 3–10 lakhs) and 3rd place in the Safai Mitra Surakshit Shehar category. 'This is a massive leap from 24th place last year and 74th the year before,' he said, urging citizens to aim for a top-three national position next year, stressing that cleanliness is a shared responsibility. Extending greetings for the holy month of Sawan and Sawan Shivratri, he felicitated sanitation workers and municipal councillors for their efforts. He presented a cheque for ₹1 lakh to Safai Mitra Sameer under the Safai Mitra Welfare Fund and flagged off 12 new sanitation vehicles inducted into the municipal fleet. BJP MP Ravi Kishan said under Yogi Adityanath's guidance, Gorakhpur is setting new benchmarks in development. Mayor Dr Manglesh Srivastava pledged to improve the city's national ranking even further in the coming year. The chief minister concluded by stating that 'Viksit Bharat by 2047' is only possible if all sectors, including sanitation, health, technology, and infrastructure, move forward together. The UP government, he affirmed, is fully committed to realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a developed India.

Food policing again
Ghaziabad: A week after a vigilante group forced a KFC outlet in Vasundhara to serve vegetarian items in the month of Shravan, another incident of food policing has emerged in the city. The latest incident, far more intrusive, came to light after a video of it was shared widely on social media. The 2.5-minute clip purportedly shows two Bajrang Dal members intercepting a Blinkit rider who was out to deliver an order in Vijay Nagar. The men ask the rider for his name and then direct him to show the items he is delivering. As the rider complies, the men spot a non-vegetarian item in the order. "You are a Hindu, and you're doing (delivering a non-veg item) this – aren't you ashamed?" the "Bajrang" member in the video says to the rider. He then goes on to tell the rider to call the customer and talk to her. With the call on speaker phone, the video shows the vigilante "advising" the customer not to eat non-vegetarian food during Sawan. It is only after the customer identifies her religion as Christian that the vigilante in the video allows the rider to proceed with the delivery. Read More Undo Asked about the video, a Bajrang Dal member in Ghaziabad, Subhash, told TOI that the man in the video is a member of the outfit. The incident, Subhash said, occurred on Tuesday. "We have requested all restaurants and grocery stores not to sell non-vegetarian food till Shivratri . Whenever we found any person selling non-veg food, we reached there and asked them to sell only vegetarian items. The restriction is for some days only, and people of the district also support this initiative," Subhash said. Kotwali ACP Ritesh Tripathi said the incident took place in Vijay Nagar and a team has been formed to investigate the matter. "We have not received any complaint over the incident till now," the ACP said. Multiple such incidents have been reported in NCR since preparations for kanwar yatra, which is observed during Shravan, began earlier this month. Last week, members of the Hindu Raksha Dal protested in front of a KFC outlet and Nazeer restaurant in Sector 11 of Vasundhara. The KFC outlet gave in to the outfit's intimidation and put up a notice, saying: "We are serving only veg." Ghaziabad police finally intervened and assured the outlet that there's no such restriction. A senior police officer iterated on Wednesday that there was no curb on selling non-vegetarian food items. "Stores are selling non-veg items, and police have assured them help," the officer added. Blinkit did not respond to requests for comment on the video and the incident till Wednesday evening. The matter also reached the Supreme Court, which on Tuesday refused to stay UP govt's order mandating restaurants along kanwar yatra route to display QR codes along with the names of owners. The court, which was hearing a petition against UP govt's order, said it would not get into all the issues at this stage but directed restaurant owners to display their license and registration certificates as required under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

A temple, a mosque, and the harmony in between
1 2 Panchkula: In Panchkula, amidst the sacred chants of "Har Har Mahadev" echoing from the 500-year-old Saketri temple, a different kind of devotion unfolds, one that transcends religion and celebrates the unity of communities. As the holy month of Sawan progresses, devotees come to the ancient Saketri Mandir to offer prayers to Lord Shiva, especially on Sawan Shivratri, considered one of the holiest nights in Hinduism. But beyond the spiritual reverence lies a heartening tale of communal harmony between Hindus and Muslims who share the sacred space not just in prayer, but in everyday life. Right next to the temple stands a mosque, and just outside the mandir, rows of stalls bustle with activity, many owned by members of both communities. Among them is Jalal Uddin, a vendor originally from Uttar Pradesh. Having moved to Panchkula 18 years ago, Jalal has become a familiar face around the Mansa Devi and Saketri temples, setting up his stall every Shivratri. On a hot July afternoon, Jalal arranges colorful toy fans at his stall. Nearby, Seema, whose father has a prasad stall at Mansa Devi since 2005 and has set up a stall at Saketri for Shivratri, teases him: "You're selling a toy fan, but you yourself are sitting in this heat!" The two share a hearty laugh before Seema returns to attend to a customer. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Indonesia (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search Ads Search Now Undo These everyday interactions reflect a deep-rooted bond that has only strengthened over time. Kanta Rani, who sells prasad just across from a shop owned by Anwar Mohammad, says, "When there's a rush in the temple at night, these boys, including Anwar, help us manage the crowd. They hold sticks and allow people in batches, so things remain orderly." Anwar Mohammad, whose family runs four shops outside the mandir, shares a touching anecdote, "When there's a wedding in our community, the temple committee lends us utensils without hesitation. We help each other, that's how it has always been." KD Sharma, the Pradhan of the temple, echoes this sentiment with pride. "The Muslim community here is always ready to help, during big festivals or whenever we need them. We don't see differences. We live and work together." As the temple bells chime and incense diffuses through the air, the real offering at Saketri isn't just flowers or milk to Lord Shiva, it's the shared respect and brotherhood that bring these communities closer, year after year. Jalal, watching the evening crowd begin to gather, quietly says, "I have three children to feed and a family to support. That is my religion."
