German auto components major Bosch has announced plans to cut 1,100 jobs at its Reutlingen plant in southern Germany. It will affect assembly line and back-office positions. The decision, announced on July 22, 2025 and will impact about 10% of the workforce at the site, news agency AFP reported. Bosch Layoffs The layoffs come as Bosch is facing intense price competition in the European steering systems market, driven largely by the entry of low-cost Chinese manufacturers. 'The European market for steering systems is driven by price and hard fought with new suppliers,' said Dirk Kress, head of Bosch's electronics division. He acknowledged the job cuts are difficult but called them essential to securing the site's future. Bosch also pointed to declining demand for steering systems, mainly due to the sluggish pace of electric vehicle adoption, as a reason for the restructuring. The company said manufacturing steering systems at the Reutlingen facility is 'no longer competitive.' The plant will now shift focus toward semiconductor production. How Will Bosch Cuts Jobs? It is still unclear whether the job cuts will be through compulsory layoffs or voluntary options such as early retirement. The development adds to the growing turmoil in Germany's automotive sector. In recent months, suppliers like Schaeffler and Continental have also trimmed their workforces, while Porsche last week warned employees of a 'serious situation' amid slumping demand in China. Bosch had earlier announced 5,500 job cuts in November 2024. After the announcement, Bosch shares listed on the Indian stock market closed 1.37% lower at Rs 37,750 on Tuesday, down from the previous close of Rs 38,320.

Bosch Layoffs: German autoparts maker to cut 1,100 jobs; assembly line and back-office roles at risk

Bosch Layoffs: German automotive components makerBosch announced its plans to cut 1,100 jobs at its Southern Germany-based plant on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, and disclosed that this move will affect one-tenth of the workers at the site, reported the news agency AFP. Advertisement This layoff will affect people who are involved in the site's assembly line as well as in back-office roles, reported the news agency, citing the German autoparts maker. 'The European market for steering systems is driven by price and hard fought with new suppliers,' said Bosch's electronics chief, Dirk Kress, amid the rising competition from the Chinese manufacturers in recent years. German car manufacturers have been struggling with this issue in recent times as the Asian nation contests for market share. 'The required cuts are not easy, but they are essential to secure the future of the site,' he said, according to the news agency's report. Losing the 'competitive' edge According to the agency report citing the autoparts maker, steering system sales were declining partly due to the sluggish uptake of electric vehicles. However, the company did not say whether the job cuts would involve compulsory redundancies or rely on voluntary measures such as early retirement. Other automotive suppliers like Schaeffler and Continental have made layoffs in the past year, while sports car maker Porsche last Friday warned workers of a 'serious situation' amid collapsing demand in China. In November 2024, Bosch also announced a 5,500-employee layoff across the company, according to the agency report. Bosch is a listed company in the Indian stock market, and the shares closed 1.37% lower at ₹37,750 after Tuesday's stock market session, compared to ₹38,320 at the previous market close. Ex-police chief accused of secretly searching names. Are you on the list?

BALLWIN, Mo. – FOX 2 has learned the names of individuals who a former police chief is accused of misusing the Regional Justice Information System database. Hundreds of people were allegedly searched without their knowledge and without probable cause. FOX 2 obtained the list and can tell you if you're on it. Many of the names are tied to one of two St. Louis area neighborhoods. They're both where former Ballwin Police Chief Doug Schaeffler used to live. One of the areas is in Fenton. That's where we found Darryl Huisinga, who learned about the list when we told him. 'I find it very creepy that someone can do this type of investigation,' Huisinga said. We're protecting the identities of names on the list, but we'll show you how you can find out if you're on the list. Most don't even know they were searched. Many of them live on or near Prestshire Drive. One woman on the list, who asked not to go on camera, lives across the street from Schaeffler's former home. She was alarmed when we told her. 'My team has worked for over a year fighting the City of Ballwin and REJIS to obtain this list,' he said. Roach and his team alleged Schaeffler searched more than a thousand names in a two-and-a-half-year period. Attorney Mark Pedroli is suing for more answers. He's also questioning whether those in charge of REJIS are properly monitoring. 'Do they watch or flag people who do too many searches and, so far, the answer to that is I don't believe they do, and I think that's a problem,' he said. Pedroli said Ballwin only found out when other officers heard Schaeffler talking about what he was doing and turned him in. REJIS's CEO said that's proof the system of checks and balances works. He also said it's the police agency's responsibility to monitor, rather than REJIS'—and that it's per FBI rules that set that as policy. Ballwin fired Schaeffler over the searches in December 2023; Schaeffler sued for wrongful termination in January 2024. In response, the state of Missouri attempted to strip Schaeffler of his police license in June 2025. Schaeffler's attorney told FOX 2 that their client would not comment due to pending litigation. 'How do you know who's telling the truth? It's sad,' Pat Kerlagon said. Kerlagon lives in the Ballwin neighborhood, where Schaeffler is accused of running names—on and around his former home on Marsten Court—though her name is not on the list. 'I think people do have the right to know if it affected them,' Kerlagon added. If you live in either of the two neighborhoods where Schaeffler's alleged to have searched names, email me at and I'll check to see if you're on the list.
