London's crime epidemic proves Donald Trump was right about Sadiq Khan

These are truly astonishing figures. They show that parts of London under Khan's mayoralty have descended to vicious lawlessness – and this poses a fundamental threat to Londoners, British citizens who visit for various reasons, and foreign tourists who carry romanticised visions of our capital which are now far divorced from reality. There is arguably a public safety emergency in London, with the capital finding itself in a knife crime, robbery, and street theft epidemic under a mayor who was recently awarded a knighthood for 'political and public service'. Indeed, three in five of the knife crimes committed in the capital were robberies – with over 81,000 mobile phones stolen in robberies and thefts last year. What is especially worrying is the scale to which those behind such crimes escape from receiving the punishments they deserve. An uncomfortable number of serial offenders are getting away with receiving custodial sentences. 'Hyper-prolific offenders' – those with more than 45 previous convictions – were sent to prison on less than half of all occasions (45.5 per cent to be exact) on conviction for an indictable or either-way offence. This is not remotely acceptable. One of the key recommendations of the Policy Exchange report calls for Scotland Yard to adopt an enhanced 'zero tolerance' strategy in the top 20 knife crime hotspots of London – where Met police officers would be 'explicitly tasked' to conduct 'very high volumes' of stop and searches. This includes placing in the region of 100 frontline officers on patrol in the vicinity of Oxford Circus and Regent Street during peak times. While some have caricatured stop-and-search as a policing instrument of institutional racism, the depressing fact is that much of the knife crime in London is among younger black males – disproportionately from lone-parent households and sucked into subcultures which glorify violence and hyper-materialism.

Revealed: London's worst area for knife crime

The West End of London has been revealed as the capital's knife crime hotspot. More knife offences were recorded in a single area between Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus than in 700 other similar-sized locations in the city. It was among more than 200 hotspot areas that accounted for more than a quarter of all London's knife crime last year, according to research by the Policy Exchange think tank. The geographical concentration of violence comes as knife crime in London has increased by 58.5 per cent to a record 16,789 offences in the three years to 2024. This represents some 32.1 per cent of all knife crime in England. The Policy Exchange report recommended that Scotland Yard should adopt an enhanced 'zero tolerance' strategy in the top 20 knife crime hotspots where officers would be 'explicitly tasked' to conduct 'very high volumes' of stop and searches. 'The highest hotspot for knife crime in London (in the vicinity of Oxford Circus and Regent Street) should have very large numbers of officers on patrol (at least 100 officers) in this single area during peak times,' said the think tank.

Older brother of Oasis stars Liam and Noel Gallagher charged with rape

Paul Gallagher, the older brother of Oasis stars Liam and Noel, has been charged by Scotland Yard with rape, sexual assault and a string of other offences. The 59-year-old is set to appear in court next month. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police shared the following statement: 'Paul Gallagher, of Manor Park Road, East Finchley, has been charged with rape, coercive and controlling behaviour, three counts of sexual assault, three counts of intentional strangulation, two counts of making a threat to kill and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.' It continued: 'The offences are reported to have taken place between 2022-2024. The charges follow an investigation which commenced in 2024. A woman is being supported by specially trained officers.' The charges come as Liam and Noel are on tour with Oasis for their Live '25 reunion tour – marking their first shows together since the band's acrimonious split in 2009. Paul, who is seven years older than Liam and one year older than Noel, grew up with his brothers in Burnage, Manchester, and has never been involved in Oasis. He has previously worked as a DJ and a photographer, and released a book in 1997 entitled "Brothers: From Childhood to Oasis", in which he described growing up with Liam and Noel. Paul Gallagher is due to appear at Westminster magistrates court on Wednesday 27 August.

Prince William and Princess Catherine eyeing Fort Belvedere after masked break-in attempts near Adelaide Cottage

Prince William and Princess Catherine are reportedly eyeing a new family home after two recent break-in attempts near their private residence in Windsor Home Park. Over the past year, Scotland Yard has confirmed at least two incidents in which intruders had breached the secure perimeter around the grounds of Windsor Castle not far from Adelaide Cottage. The cosy four-bedroom house is relatively modest by royal standards and more closely resembles an ordinary home in a leafy suburb than a palace. Adelaide Cottage has been the primary home for the Wales clan since 2022 and a sanctuary for the family from the media glare during Catherine's cancer treatment. But the family's sense of security has likely been shattered in recent months after incidents in which strangers managed to breach the castle grounds. Last October, two masked raiders broke into the Windsor Castle estate as Prince William, Princess Catherine and their three children slept nearby. Two masked men reportedly scaled the 6ft fence surrounding Shaw Farm at the royal residence to steal a farm vehicle before crashing through a security barrier to escape. 'There are alarms at Windsor Castle, but the first time anyone knew there was a break-in was when they crashed through the security barrier at Shaw Farm Gate exit,' a palace source told The Sun Newspaper. 'It was a Sunday night on a school week so the young princes and princess would have been tucked in bed at Adelaide Cottage, just around the corner but still in the grounds.' The revelation that two raiders had slipped undetected into the grounds shocked the British public. Last month, a man in his thirties was apprehended after also breaching the 'restricted grounds' of Windsor Castle in broad daylight. The Prince and Princess of Wales are reportedly eyeing Fort Belvedere, which is located in nearby Windsor Great Park, as a possible replacement for Adelaide Cottage. "This is the perfect new home for them. It has a swimming pool and tennis court, and Charlotte loves playing tennis," a palace source told the Daily Mail. The fortress-style Gothic property was once the home of William's great uncle the Duke of Windsor, who abdicated the British throne at Fort Belvedere in 1936. From the early 1980s until his death in 2021, the Crown Estate leased Fort Belvedere to the late Canadian billionaire retail magnate Galen Weston and his wife, Hilary.

Brother of Noel and Liam Gallagher charged with rape and other offences

The older brother of Oasis's Noel and Liam Gallagher has been charged with rape and other sexual offences, Scotland Yard has said. Paul Gallagher, 59, has been charged with rape, coercive and controlling behaviour, three counts of sexual assault, three counts of intentional strangulation, two counts of making a threat to kill and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, the Metropolitan police said. Gallagher, of Manor Park Road, East Finchley, will appear before Westminster magistrates court on 27 August. Scotland Yard said in statement that the offences were reported to have taken place between 2022 and 2024 and that the charges follow an investigation which began last year. 'A woman is being supported by specially-trained officers,' the force said. The charges emerge as Liam and Noel Gallagher continue their Oasis reunion tour – their first live shows together in the UK since 2009. Announced in 2024, the tour started in Cardiff last month before moving on to Manchester and London, with more shows in London, Edinburgh and Dublin to come, as well as further dates overseas. Paul Gallagher grew up with his famous siblings in Burnage, Manchester, but has never been involved with the band. He released his own book in 1997 entitled Brothers: From Childhood to Oasis, in which he described growing up with Liam and Noel Gallagher, renowned for the acrimonious relationship. He has also worked as a DJ and photographer.
