Mamelodi Sundowns pounce on star after Livingston visa blow
Mamelodi Sundowns look poised to land their first signing of the transfer window as they close in on a deal with highly-rated forward Aphelele Teto. Teto appears to have reached a mutual agreement with Scottish side Livingston FC to part ways after yet another failed visa application halted his move to the William Hill Premiership. The 22-year-old initially joined Livingston in 2023 on a four-year contract, having caught their attention during a European tour with TS Galaxy. However, bureaucratic red tape around work permits in the UK scuppered his plans before they could take off. Last season, Teto joined Chippa United on loan, a spell that earned him two international caps for Bafana Bafana in the CHAN qualifiers against Egypt. His national team appearances had briefly reignited hopes of qualifying for a work permit. Under the Scottish FA's rules, foreign players must meet strict benchmarks, such as a minimum percentage of national team appearances and a high FIFA ranking, to qualify for a permit. Although Teto's performances showed promise, they failed to tip the scale in his favour. 'The club can appeal to an Exceptions Panel,' explained a source familiar with the situation, 'but despite his international games, securing the visa remained an uphill battle.' With Livingston no longer able to hold onto the winger, Sundowns have made their move. The Premiership giants are believed to be offering Teto a permanent deal, seizing the opportunity to secure a dynamic attacker with international experience. Insiders say Livingston will continue tracking Teto's development. Keeping the door open for a future return to Europe once the visa hurdles are resolved. Concerns over the impact of repeated loan moves on his growth reportedly influenced Sundowns' decision to sign him outright. Offering Teto the stability he needs to reignite his career and push for more Bafana Bafana appearances. Will Teto make an impact at Mamelodi Sundowns? Son of Rangers hero takes next step in footballing career with first spell at SPFL club as part of co-op agreement
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) KILMARNOCK youngster Cole Burke has joined Queen of the South as part of a co-operation agreement between the two clubs. The new system brought in by the Scottish FA this season allows Scottish players aged between 16 and 21 to move between their parent and loan club throughout the campaign. Cole, the son of Rangers hero Chris, has featured for Scotland at under 16 and 17 level, and made two appearances off the bench for Kilmarnock last season. He also helped Killie to the Scottish Youth Cup trophy in a 2-0 win over Dundee, with his dad Chris the academy coach. As part of the agreement, Burke will be able to move freely between the clubs and can be recalled by Killie at any time provided the club give Queens the prescribed amount of notice. Queens boss Peter Murphy said: 'The new scheme introduced by the Scottish Football Association gives younger players a great chance to develop whilst being part of a first team squad. "Cole who turns 17 next week is a player with a lot of potential, he is a key part of Kilmarnock's youth team and helped them get to the Youth Cup final last season. "Despite his age he has already been involved at first team level with the Rugby Park club. "We are delighted to have entered a partnership with Kilmarnock and look forward to seeing how that and Cole develops throughout the season.' Chris Burke came through the ranks at Rangers and famously featured in a programme charting young academy players progress at the club called Blue Heaven. He would go on to play more than 100 times for the Ibrox outfit between 2001 and 2009 and would also have spells with Cardiff, Birmingham, Nottingham Forest, Ross County and Kilmarnock. Rangers transfer special assesses whether Conor Coady deal is OFF, if Hamza Igamane will leave and when the Gers can expect more incomings The 41-year-old, an academy coach at Killie, believes the new system is a good idea. He told the BBC back in May: "The academy coaches, we all try our best to try and give them the best opportunity possible and I think with the co-operation loan next year, that will help massively. "I've seen it so many times in my short academy coaching career that I can tell when a player's already past that 18s level. "You don't want them to become frustrated and then to plateau out. "So, you want to challenge them constantly and to do that you need to push them out and let them play the men's game as much as possible. "Then, if they come back, then I believe they will become a better player for that. "I'm really looking forward to next season when that kicks in." Scottish FA to restart Denmark ticket sale after ‘technical error'
The sale of tickets for Scotland's upcoming World Cup qualifying match against Denmark has been halted after a 'technical error', the Scottish FA confirmed. Steve Clarke's side take on the Danes in Copenhagen on September 5, and Scotland Supporters Club (SSC) members purchased tickets on Tuesday morning. The tickets had been reserved for those with 32-21 supporters' points. However, the SFA released a statement revealing that a technical error had occurred during the sale, allowing some SSC members to purchase tickets for the match despite not having accumulated enough points. They confirmed that, in the 'interest of fairness', all purchases made on Tuesday will be cancelled and refunded. A new ticket sale for the crucial qualifier will take place from 10am on Wednesday. Scotland start their World Cup campaign against Denmark before travelling to Belarus, and then hosting Greece at Hampden. The Tartan Army will then be able to cheer on Scotland against Belarus in Glasgow in October, before Steve Clarke's side travel to Greece. They then end the group campaign by hosting Denmark on November 18. A spokesperson for the SFA said: 'The Scottish FA is aware of a technical error that occurred during this morning's ticket sale for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifying match against Denmark, which allowed purchase by some Scotland Supporters Club (SSC) members who were not eligible during the window that was reserved for those with 32-21 Points.
