Naomi Girma set to play for U.S. women's soccer in upcoming friendlies

(Nick Wass / Associated Press) Naomi Girma was called up to the women's national soccer team Tuesday for the first time this year, joining 23 others for friendlies with China and Jamaica. Girma, who was named to FIFA's global Best XI last year, has been sidelined with calf injuries but recently returned to fitness, going 90 minutes in two of Chelsea's last three games in the Women's Super League. Her last appearance for the U.S. came in the gold medal final of the Paris Olympics in August. Advertisement Sisters Alyssa and Gisele Thompson, who started their second senior national team match together last month, were also called up but this time with Gisele, a defender, making the roster as a winger. Alyssa has four goals and two assists this season for Angel City, for whom her sister also plays. 'We have two different types of opponents ahead of us so we'll have to be creative in breaking down those teams in different ways.' In addition to Girma, seven other players from the Olympic championship team were called up. But Hayes also summoned three uncapped players in Orlando Pride defender Kerry Abello, Kansas City Current midfielder Lo'eau LaBonta and Seattle Reign goalkeeper Claudia Dickey. Canyon Country teenager Olivia Moultrie, who hasn't played for the U.S. since Hayes took over last May, is also on the roster. Seattle-Louisville NWSL match postponed due to severe weather
May 17 - Friday's match between Racing Louisville and the visiting Seattle Reign was postponed until Saturday at 1 p.m. local time due to inclement weather. "Racing Louisville FC's home game against Seattle Reign FC -- originally scheduled to be played Friday night at Lynn Family Stadium -- has been postponed to Saturday due to an increasing threat of severe weather in the area," the Racing Louisville said in a statement Friday. The club added that all tickets purchased for the match will be honored Saturday. Both clubs are 3-3-2 (11 points) entering the match. Louisville has won two matches in a row. --Field Level Media

Reign F Veronica Latsko (Achilles) to miss 2025 season
February 27 - Seattle Reign FC forward Veronica Latsko miss will the 2025 season due to a torn Achilles tendon. The Reign said Wednesday that Latsko will be placed on the season-ending injury list. Latsko was injured during a preseason match against Bay FC on Feb. 16 during the Coachella Valley Invitational at Indio, Calif. "We're absolutely gutted for Veronica," Seattle coach Laura Harvey said in a news release. "She has proven over her career to be resilient, diligent and hard working on the pitch, we know how much preparation she had put in for this season. "While this is a tough setback, we have no doubt she'll attack her recovery with the same determination and resilience she brings to the pitch every day. Our entire club will be behind her every step of the way." Latsko, 29, has 15 goals and seven assists in 108 regular-season NWSL matches with the Houston Dash (2018-19, 2021) and Seattle. She had three goals and one assist in 23 games (11 starts) last season. Seattle opens the regular season on March 15 against visiting NJ/NY Gotham FC.
