Knives, ganja tools, cash found in Bengaluru jail during surprise raid

Bengaluru Rapido bike rider who slapped female passenger in police custody; FIR filed
A Rapido rider in Karnataka's Bengaluru was on Monday taken into police custody after he was captured slapping a female passenger. As per Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, an FIR related to the matter has been filed. On Monday, a video went viral in which a Rapido rider was seen slapping a woman passenger after a heated argument. As per the police, the incident occurred after the passenger got off mid-ride and confronted the driver regarding his alleged rash driving. In the video, the bike rider was seen slapping the woman, resulting in the woman to fall on the ground due to the impact of the assault. 'A video has gone viral today in which a Rapido bike rider slapped a lady. In this regard a complaint has been registered by South Division police, at Jayanagar police station. The person has already been taken into custody. We are enquiring into it,' the police commissioner told news agency ANI. When the video went viral on social media, we contacted the person concerned and asked her to lodge a complaint... We will definitely take action," he added further. As per the police, the woman passenger claimed that the rider was driving rashly and jumped signals en-route to Jayanagar. She told officials that she questioned him over his driving, which resulted in an argument and the assault. Police officials said the incident occurred on June 13. At the time, the passenger refused to file a complaint. Based on the video, the police filed a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR). However, on Monday, the woman came forward and registered the complaint, following which an FIR was filed.

Nigerian woman held in Bengaluru with ₹10 cr worth MDMA crystals
A foreign national was arrested in connection with a case of drug peddling here and over 5.3 kg of banned MDMA crystals worth Rs 10 crore was seized from her, police said on Friday. The woman, said to be a Nigerian was held following a tip-off on June 10 by the Central Crime Branch's anti-narcotics wing that she was trying to sell drugs in Tarahunase village near Rajanukunte, they said. During interrogation, she told police that she came to New Delhi on October 4, 2021, on a student visa to study at a college in Telangana state. But when verified, it was revealed that she was not enrolled in that particular college, a senior police officer said. "The woman claimed that she was unable to earn enough to lead a lavish life and so got involved in drug peddling along with her friend. She used to hide these MDMA crystals in new dress piece materials, transported them from Delhi to Bengaluru by bus and supplied it to local drug peddlers in Bengaluru," he said. A case has been registered at Chikkajala Police Station in this regard, and the search for the arrested person's absconding friend is ongoing, police said. Speaking about the case, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said that MDMA drug worth Rs 10 crore in the international market was seized from a foreign national who has been arrested in the drug peddling case. "As per our initial information, she landed in Delhi a few years back and in this particular case, she has come down to Bengaluru with this drug consignment. Now question arises how from such a far away place and in such a huge quantity it has come," he told reporters here. He also announced that on June 26, the Bengaluru City Police will also organise a huge rally on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking. Seminars and workshops will also be conducted as part of this to create awareness about drug abuse.

Bengaluru: Seemant Kumar Singh, who took charge as Bengaluru police commissioner Thursday midnight, said he and his team will ensure peace in the city. "Our police force is good. I believe in teamwork. I will put our team together and ensure there is peace and calmness in the city. We are capable enough to provide total security to citizens; no one should worry about anything," Singh told TOI. "The police setup is doing excellent work. The focus will be on basic policing, ensuring there is a cordial relationship between the public and police," Singh said. "Policing is a dynamic concept depending on the nature of the population, area and increase in crime. We have to keep working on it... I am hoping from the constable to the police commissioner, all will perform in a way that we can give our best to society," he said. "Traffic is a key factor. I will certainly look into the issue and take necessary measures," Singh added. New Cubbon Park ACP, inspector After taking charge, Singh posted a new assistant commissioner of police to Cubbon Park subdivision and a new inspector to Cubbon Park police station. ACP B Ramachandra, who was in city crime records bureau (CCRB), has been given additional charge of Cubbon Park sub-division. Inspector KS Devendrappa, attached to Central Crime Branch, has been posted to Cubbon Park station. These two officers will hold charge until the govt posts new officers. Seemant Kumar Singh takes charge as new Bengaluru Police commissioner after stampede fallout
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 6 (ANI): Senior IPS officer Seemant Kumar Singh on Friday morning took charge as the new commissioner of the Bengaluru City police. Singh was announced as the new commissioner by the state government on Thursday night after it suspended then-commissioner B Dayananda following the death of 11 people during a stampede at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. Apart from Dayananda, Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shekhar HT, Assistant Commissioner of Police Balakrishna and Cubbon Park Police Inspector Girish AK were also suspended with immediate effect. Karnataka Police filed an FIR against the Karnataka Cricket Board Administrative Committee, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), among others, in the Bengaluru stampede incident. The FIR stated criminal negligence in the stampede incident. Sections 105, 125(1) (2), 132, 121/1, and 190 R/w 3 (5) have been invoked in the FIR. The Karnataka High Court notified the state government over the stampede incident. The HC took suo motu cognisance of the incident and asked for a further status report. CM Siddaramaiah also announced that the state government has decided to suspend top police department officials, including the Commissioner of Bengaluru City Police, emphasising the government's commitment to ensuring accountability. The Chief Minister said that action will be taken against those responsible for the mismanagement of the event. 'On RCB, the event manager DNA Entertainment, and KSCA, who represented them, we have decided to arrest them,' Siddaramaiah said. Referring to the deep sorrow caused by the incident, he said, 'When I was speaking about the tragedy yesterday, 11 died and 47 were injured -- all were in pain, and we still are. It was important to express our condolences and console the families.' The CM added that the state cabinet discussed the matter seriously during its scheduled meeting and made firm decisions to prevent such tragedies in the future. Eleven people died and more than 30 were injured in a stampede outside Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy stadium on Wednesday as a huge crowd of nearly 3 lakh people had gathered to witness the victory celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru who won the Indian Premier League (IPL).
