Cops nab man for reckless driving after chase in Segamat

SEGAMAT: A 20-year-old man has been arrested for reckless driving and hitting several vehicles after failing to comply with police instructions to stop. The Segamat Police District car patrol unit (MPV) officers were patrolling the Jalan Labis-Chaah stretch when they spotted a missing silver sedan. "The car was reported missing in Labis on Aug 12," said Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah. The MPV unit followed the suspect until he reached the traffic light junction near the Chaah police station. Supt Ahmad Zamry stated that the suspect refused to stop when ordered by the police and sped off towards Yong Peng. "Our officers managed to catch the suspect at KM3, Jalan Yong Peng-Segamat after a chase," he said. Initial investigations revealed that the suspect has a previous criminal record and is on a wanted list for a narcotics case. The suspect has been remanded until Aug 8 to assist with the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 379A, Section 186, and Section 279 of the Penal Code. Section 379A of the Penal Code relates to the theft of motor vehicles or their components, punishable by imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not more than seven years, and a fine. Section 186 deals with obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties, with penalties including imprisonment of up to two years, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both. Section 279 covers rash or negligent driving on a public way, which can result in a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. A video of the car chase went viral on social media platforms. SEGAMAT: Police have arrested a "Peeping Tom" for allegedly peeping and recording a woman inside a restaurant's toilet at Bandar Putra on May 4. Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the suspect, a local man in his 20s, used his mobile phone to record the victim while she was in the toilet at 10.38pm. "While urinating, the victim reportedly noticed suspicious movement around the toilet before detecting a phone recording of her," he said at a press conference. Supt Ahmad Zamry said the victim hurriedly left the toilet, suspecting someone had been recording her. She immediately lodged a police report at the Segamat Police District Contingent headquarters, and the suspect was arrested on May 9. Supt Ahmad Zamry said police also found about 16,000 explicit photos of women recorded and downloaded on the suspect's mobile phone, including two videos of the woman in the toilet. He said the case is being investigated under Section 377d/292 of the Penal Code. Supt Ahmad Zamry also reminded the public to be alert and aware of similar cases and called upon those with knowledge or information on such cases to come forward to assist the police.
