In Johor, couple in Ford Mustang killed after car slams into power poles near Segamat
SEGAMAT, Aug 5 — A married couple died tragically after the car they were travelling in skidded and crashed into power poles at KM13 of Jalan Segamat-Kuantan yesterday evening. Segamat police chief Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the accident is believed to have occurred when a Ford Mustang driven by the 50-year-old local man and his 30-year-old wife was heading towards Segamat. He said the driver lost control of the classic American automobile which skidded and veered left, then hit two electric poles whereby both victims suffered serious injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. 'The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and further investigations are still being carried out. Anyone with related information can contact the (traffic division of) Segamat police headquarters,' he said in a statement today. Meanwhile, Segamat fire and rescue station operations commander Senior Fire Officer (PBK) Abd Rahim Taufik said after receiving a distress call at 1.46pm, a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) with six personnel was dispatched to the scene. 'On arrival at the accident scene, the operations team had to extricate the two victims in the car using special equipment. 'Both victims, Mohd Izuddin Harmaini, 51, and Nur Syamimi Rosli, 36, were pronounced dead,' he said, adding that their bodies were handed over to police for further action and the operation ended at 3.36pm. — Bernama

Police tracking man who took pet dog to Segamat nasi kandar restaurant, chair disposed of
KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 — Police are looking for a man seen in a viral video bringing his pet dog into a nasi kandar restaurant in Segamat. Berita Harian reported that the man, believed to be in his 20s, was seen placing the dog on a chair while having drinks at the eatery. 'In the viral video, an individual is seen bringing a pet dog while having a drink,' said Segamat district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zamry Marinsah. 'Following that, a staff member from the restaurant lodged a report at the Segamat district police headquarters.' Initial investigations revealed that the incident took place at around 12pm last Sunday. Ahmad Zamry said the restaurant employee informed police that the chair used by the dog had since been disposed of after the matter was reported to their employer. He said police are actively tracking down the individual, with the Segamat Municipal Council also assisting in the investigation under the Local Government Act 1970. 'Anyone with information about the man is urged to contact the nearest police station to assist in the investigation,' he said.

Cops look for man who brought dog to mamak shop
A video clip widely shared on social media showed a man with his pet dog beside him at a Muslim restaurant in Johor. PETALING JAYA : Police are looking for a man who brought his pet dog with him to a 24-hour Muslim restaurant in Johor last Sunday. Segamat police chief Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said a restaurant worker interviewed by the police had stated that the restaurant had thrown away the chair on which the dog had been placed. 'Further investigations are being held with the Segamat Municipal Council,' he said in a statement. A video of the man and his dog at the eatery in Segamat Baru had gone viral earlier this week, with netizens expressing dismay. Dogs are seen as ritually unclean by most Muslims.
