Puad denies Umno-PN backdoor talks

Puad Zarkashi said he would have been the first to object to a proposal for Umno to forge a new government with PN. PETALING JAYA : Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi has rubbished claims that party representatives have been meeting with Perikatan Nasional leaders for talks on forming a new government. He claimed that it was PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man who initiated contact with Umno intermediaries and allegedly offered the party the prime minister's post if it agreed to a plan for a backdoor government. 'But that idea was never brought to or discussed in the Supreme Council. Even if it had been, I would have been the first to speak up and strongly oppose it,' he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian. His remarks were in response to Tuan Ibrahim's statement that Umno leaders had held discreet meetings with PN leaders to explore 'cross-party movement' led by PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin. Speaking to the media at the Selangor PAS Youth muktamar yesterday, Tuan Ibrahim also reportedly invited dissatisfied Umno members to join PN, likening it to 'leaving a sinking ship'. Puad dismissed the overture and said Umno would not repeat what he described as a mistake of the past. 'Tuan Ibrahim knows full well that Umno will not fall into the same trap again. All of this is just an attempt to lure us in,' he said. 'The idea of Umno working with PAS, let alone Bersatu, is nothing but a dream.' The last time Umno, Bersatu and PAS cooperated was when they formed the government in March 2020 following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan administration.

Jockey who fled country after ‘practically jumping off' horse hit with massive 18-month ban and fine

A JOCKEY who fled the country after 'practically jumping off' a horse has been hit with a massive 18-month ban and fine. Footage of Brazilian rider Lemos 'Lai Lai' De Souza's spill from favourite Pacific Power gained worldwide notoriety. 4 4 4 4 Pacific Power was favourite for a race at Selangor racecourse in Malaysia but drifted just before the off. De Souza was seen appearing to bounce in the saddle before theatrically falling off the horse seconds after the gates opened. Commentator Devon Pretorius said at the time: "He practically jumped off the horse." Stewards attempted to open an urgent investigation into the incident, which occurred earlier this month. But matters were complicated after it emerged De Souza had fled the country for Singapore so he could receive medical treatment. The jockey was said to have returned a few days later - giving stewards the chance to probe him. And, following the completion of the investigation, they decided to ban De Souza for 18 months and hand him a £7,500 fine. In another blow, the jockey is not allowed to reapply for his licence until a further 12 months after his ban ends. De Souza, who had pleaded not guilty, was deemed to have 'failed to ride his horse to the satisfaction of the stewards'. He could have been disqualified for life but stewards took into account his previous good record. Footage of De Souza's fall was viewed hundreds of thousands of times online. And many agreed with Pretorious' description of the incident. He said: "A look at the replay here… Pacific Power jumps and Lai Lai - I'm not too sure if the saddle slipped. "Then he pretty much knew his fate about ten metres out of the starting stalls and then practically jumped off the horse as he knew he wasn't going to get his foot back in his irons on his right side." This is the second such incident to rock racing in recent months. An investigation is still ongoing into Irish jockey Philip Byrnes' dramatic fall from Redwood Queen at Wexford in May. While fellow jockey Alvinio Roy was in Mauritius last year. . Remember to gamble responsibly A responsible gambler is someone who:

It stands today as a model of what purposeful land transformation can look like. As the environmental management arm of WHB, Worldwide Entech continues to lead the way in delivering long-term solutions in waste management, aligned with the Group's vision of creating sustainable value for Selangor and beyond. New Selangor rugby coach prioritises 'process over prize'

KUALA LUMPUR: New Selangor Rugby Union (SRU) head coach Suhaimi Amran expects Kelantan and Johor to be among their main rivals at the National Sevens Championships in Kuala Terengganu this weekend (July 25-27). Suhaimi said Selangor experienced Kelantan's quality first-hand during a recent friendly. "We competed in a four-way friendly series with Kelantan, Royal Malaysian Police and Malaysian Universities recently," said Suhaimi. "And I believe Kelantan will be our strongest rivals for the National Sevens, next best is probably Johor. "Kelantan have many national team starters in their side. Their squad is packed with experienced players who are in peak form. "The National Sevens will be a battle of hard work and experience." Suhaimi, who is former Singapore national head coach, joined Selangor in late April and immediately got to work preparing the squad for the national meet. "Preparations have gone well and we managed to win the Perlis Sevens last month," said the Singaporean. "But I am not thinking about whether we can win the National Sevens. From day one, I have asked our players to focus on our day to day performances and tick the boxes so the outcome will take care of itself. "Of course we want to win gold - we train to win - however, we do not want to be derailed from our main objective of being better daily." Suhaimi added that he was pleasantly surprised by the quality of players in the current Selangor squad. "If I was the national team coach I would have a headache selecting players as we have so much talent from just one state (Selangor)," he added. "The question is whether we can develop and fully utilise the talent we have. My goal is to create a high-performance culture at Selangor and help these players flourish."
