SHAH ALAM: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ordered mosques in the state to recite a special prayer after Friday prayers today for the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's recovery. This was announced through a post on the Facebook page of the Selangor Royal Office. The Brunei Sultan, who was previously reported to be resting at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in the capital due to fatigue, is in good health. Sultan Hassanal was attending the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings when he was warded at IJN.

'Less talk, more action,' Selangor sultan tells elected representatives

KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has reminded elected representatives and local authorities in the state to adopt a "less talk, more action" approach in serving the people. "His Royal Highness also called on the state government to be more proactive in taking swift action, particularly on matters and projects that affect the people's well-being," the Selangor Royal Office stated in a Facebook post. Earlier today, Sultan Sharafuddin chaired the 159th meeting of the Selangor Council of the Royal Court at Istana Alam Shah. His Royal Highness witnessed the swearing-in of two new members to the council — Selangor Islamic Religious Council chairman Senator Datuk Salehuddin Saidin as an ex-officio member, and Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof as a member of the Orang Besar. "This edition of the council meeting concentrated mainly on discussions regarding Islamic affairs in Selangor," the Selangor Royal Office said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah wants stricter action to be taken against heavy vehicle drivers and their companies found responsible for fatal accidents. His call comes in the wake of a tragic accident involving a lorry that killed nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) policemen at Km15 of Jalan Sungai Manik–Sungai Lampam in Perak on Wednesday. In a post on the Selangor Royal Office's Facebook page, Sultan Sharafuddin and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also extended their condolences to the families and next of kin of the nine FRU personnel who perished in the incident. "The Sultan of Selangor wants the government to take serious note of road accidents, especially those involving heavy vehicles on roads and highways. "The Sultan of Selangor expressed regret that he has repeatedly raised concerns, particularly regarding the penalties imposed on drivers and companies found to be negligent or in breach of safety regulations. "Given the rising number of such incidents and the increasing frequency of road accidents, His Majesty urges the authorities to take swift and stricter action. "This is to serve as a lesson to other drivers, encouraging them to be more careful and to give their full attention while driving." It was reported that nine FRU members died in a collision with a lorry carrying stones on Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam. The 45-year-old lorry driver has been remanded for four days since yesterday to assist in investigations into the case under case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death. It was also reported that lorry driver has criminal records, including a conviction for rape.

SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has expressed his delight over the experience and knowledge gained during his recent visit to the 2025 World Expo Osaka in Kansai Japan. His Royal Highness, accompanied by the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah, visited 36 pavilions throughout the five-day stay in the Land of the Rising Sun from May 3. The Selangor Ruler described the visit as a learning process, particularly regarding the sustainability of new technologies, climate change and its effect on the natural resources and the environment, as well as the future prospects of global social and economic development. According to a post on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page, this is the fourth World Expo that His Royal Highness has attended, following visits to Seville in Spain in 1992; Shanghai, China in 2010; and Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2021. Sultan Sharafuddin was attracted by the concept of the World Expo, which has been held since 1851, as a global platform for countries to showcase their best achievements in various fields, such as technology, innovation, culture, architecture, economy and social solutions. The Expo in Osaka was themed Designing Future Society for Our Lives and participated by 158 countries, each showcasing the uniqueness of their respective pavilions. Among the pavilions that His Royal Highness visited were Austria, Bahrain, China, Colombia, Kuwait, Switzerland, Australia, Azerbaijan, Germany, Indonesia, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Thailand, Turkiye, Uzbekistan, Japan, Canada, the UAE, Qatar, France, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Oman, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Turkmenistan and the Nordic countries. On the final day of the visit, Sultan Sharafuddin viewed exhibits at the pavilions of Portugal, Egypt, Chile, Monaco and Peru. Selangor royals mourn passing of PWIP patron Puan Sri Zainun Yaacob

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin Abdul Rahman, grieve the passing of Puan Sri Zainun Yaacob, wife of Glomac Group founder Tan Sri Mohamed Mansor Fateh Din. In a Facebook post on the Selangor Royal Office's page, Their Royal Highnesses extended their condolences to Zainun's family. Zainun, patron of Persatuan Wanita Islam Prihatin (PWIP), was a close friend of Her Majesty. The post read: "Her Majesty was deeply shocked and saddened by this sorrowful news.
