Governor must apologise for belittling T.N.'s educational standards: TNCC chief
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai on Wednesday criticised Governor R. N. Ravi for belittling the education development and quality of education in Tamil Nadu, which is one of the States to excel in terms of education and literacy in the country. He demanded an apology from the Governor to the people of Tamil Nadu. In a statement, he questioned about what the Governor knew about the quality of education in Tamil Nadu, further adding his comment that it was not just enough to study but that one must possess knowledge and talent was ridiculous. 'Many of the government-run universities in Tamil Nadu like Anna University, Madras University, Bharathiar University have received 'A' or 'A+' grade certificates from the National Assessment and Accreditation Agency. In the last five years, more than 35,000 doctorates have been awarded in Tamil Nadu government universities alone based on quality research. These universities conduct research under UGC guidelines,' he said. Mr. Selvaperunthagai further pointed out that Tamil Nadu has been rated as one of the best States in the 'Quality Education' category in the NITI Aayog Sustainable Development Goals Index India list (2020-21). In the School Education Quality Index (SEQI), Tamil Nadu government is leading the way in the quality of education, role of teachers, and development of students in schools.' 'The Governor should immediately withdraw this insulting statement and apologise to the people of Tamil Nadu. Otherwise, we warn that the Opposition against him through democratic means will only grow stronger,' he said.

TNCC condemns eviction of Tamils from Jangpura area in New Delhi
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai on Monday condemned the eviction of hundreds of Tamils from Jangpura area in Delhi and demolition of their homes based on a court order. In a statement, Mr. Selvaperunthagai said that most of those who were evicted were engaged in daily wage, domestic work and daily labour. 'When houses are demolished with the help of the police, the education of their children becomes questionable. Women are suffering without security, water and electricity. The Union Government and the BJP government in Delhi have not provided complete relief to the affected people. It is a great injustice to make people move without any solution or prior notice,' he said. Mr. Selvaperunthagai demanded that those displaced should be given accommodation and that employment opportunities should be created in the nearby areas. 'Appropriate compensation should be provided for loss of life and damage to property. The Union Government should understand that the Congress will strongly oppose any action that does not respect the right to life of the Tamils,' he said.

Many daydreaming about cracks in alliance, but it's firm: TNCC chief
Trichy: Congress Committee (TNCC) president K Selvaperunthagai on Monday asserted that the INDIA alliance in the state remains "strong and intact," dismissing speculation of internal fissures. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Speaking to reporters after garlanding a newly installed statue of veteran actor Sivaji Ganesan in Puthur, Trichy, Selvaperunthagai said, "Many are daydreaming that our alliance will break, but it is very strong. We are united by common ideals, and this alliance is one for the people." His remarks came in response to questions about VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan's recent informal interaction with state president K Annamalai and Union minister L Murugan at the Trichy airport. The Congress leader also slammed the BJP-led Centre for the recent inclusion of Periyar's caste suffix in a UPSC prelims question paper. "Periyar had renounced his caste identity. When did he ever identify himself with a caste? This is a deliberate attempt by the BJP govt to divide people along caste, religion, and language lines," he said. On criticisms by TVK chief Vijay that chief minister M K Stalin's recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was politically motivated, Selvaperunthagai clarified that Stalin's visit was to press for long-pending fund allocations. "This is not about fear of ED raids. The BJP govt has consistently withheld funds, and now they're placing conditions like mandatory acceptance of the NEP. This is authoritarian," he said. Welcoming the Supreme Court's recent ruling on the limits of gubernatorial powers, the TNCC president said the upcoming elections would be a decisive moment for Tamil Nadu. "The BJP and AIADMK, who once operated covertly and now do so openly, will face the people's verdict. Our alliance is the only one that can ensure real development for Tamil Nadu," he said.

Cong dares Modi on ‘silence' over Trump claim on ceasefire
Trichy: Senior leaders including P Chidambaram and state president Selvaperunthagai on Sunday questioned the Modi govt's 'silence' on key questions related to the ceasefire between India and Pakistan amid US president 's claims about meditating it. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Speaking at a party meeting after holding a 'Jai Hind' rally to express appreciation for the for Operation Sindoor here, Chidambaram said the ceasefire was welcomed, but the terms under which it was brokered remain unclear. "Trump continues to claim he played a key role in the negotiations and that he used trade as leverage to bring both countries to the table. The govt must either deny them outright or accept that India's policy decisions are being made in Washington," Chidambaram said. Criticising the govt for failing to convene a special parliamentary session to address the situation, despite the opposition's united call for action after the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 dead, he said, "Previous govts, including those led by Nehru and Indira Gandhi, convened special parliamentary sessions during times of war. This govt, however, is evading questions," he said. While acknowledging Prime Minister Modi's role in strengthening the armed forces, Chidambaram claimed that this is a continuous process that began under previous administrations and will continue under future ones as well. Speaking earlier, TNCC president Selvaperunthagai asked if India was being run by 'remote control' from Washington. "When Indira Gandhi took the bold step to liberate Bangladesh in 1971, the US tried to intervene, but she stood firm. Today's generation wants to know what happened to that kind of courage in an Indian Prime Minister," he added.
