One deal, two companies, 30,000 chargers — how KINETA and Charge+ plan to reshape EV travel

KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 — Electric vehicle (EV) drivers in Malaysia can soon expect easier cross-border charging as local provider KINETA Sdn Bhd teams up with Singapore-based Charge+ to expand their networks. The new partnership, announced at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 in Serdang, aims to create a seamless EV charging experience across Southeast Asia. Under this collaboration, KINETA will help Charge+ grow its footprint in Malaysia by installing new charging points and maintaining high safety and quality standards. 'This strategic alliance is a major milestone in our mission to accelerate EV adoption in Malaysia, while paving the way for a seamless cross-border charging experience. 'Together, we're not just building infrastructure — we're making electric vehicle ownership simpler, more accessible, and more inspiring for everyone,' KINETA managing director Sunny Lee said in a statement. Both companies will allow EV drivers to roam between their networks using either platform, making charging more convenient when travelling. KINETA has already sold over 9,000 chargers and completed more than 6,000 installations across homes, retail outlets and large commercial sites. As for Charge+, the firm operates more than 3,000 charging points across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia. The company plans to install 30,000 charging points by 2030, including a 5,000km direct current (DC) charging highway across the region. With EV sales rising fast in Malaysia, the partnership offers a timely solution for drivers seeking a reliable, accessible charging network at home and abroad.

I don't want to see PKR become party of ‘yes-men', says Rafizi

Rafizi Ramli said he did not decide to defend his deputy presidency in PKR for personal reasons or interest alone, but out of concern for public perception of the party. SERDANG : Rafizi Ramli says he will defend his deputy presidency in PKR at the party polls because he does not want to see the party filled by 'yes-men' or 'sycophants'. He said he did not make the decision for personal reasons or interest alone, but out of concern that the public will perceive PKR as a party of 'yes-men'. 'We will respect the party's processes and unity, but we have never just 'swallowed' what has been 'fed' to us. If we disagree, we will say so,' he said during a live recording of his Yang Bakar Menteri podcast at the MBSJ multipurpose hall in Serdang yesterday. Rafizi will run against former Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar for PKR's No 2 post on May 23. Rafizi was also reported yesterday to taking issue with PKR election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa over her handling of the party's divisional elections, which had resulted in many of his allies losing their contest. He accused her of ignoring hundreds of objections filed by members, and party secretary-general Fuziah Salleh of failing to detect applications by party members who held dual memberships. 'Whoever becomes the election committee chairman after this must remember that they hold a heavy responsibility because they are the first gatekeeper to the party to prevent such incidents. 'So, if members object (to something), don't look down on them and act as though you have bigger issues to handle,' he said.

PKR can't escape ‘nepotism' jabs now, says Rafizi

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim's daughter, Nurul Izzah, is contesting for the deputy president's post currently held by Rafizi Ramli. (Facebook pic) SUBANG JAYA : PKR leaders cannot escape being attacked with accusations of nepotism by the party's rivals now that Nurul Izzah Anwar is running for the PKR deputy presidency, says Rafizi Ramli. Rafizi said Nurul Izzah, the daughter of party president Anwar Ibrahim, would undoubtedly have her own arguments to put forth. However, the incumbent deputy president said PKR as a whole must be ready for questions from the rakyat and attacks from opposition parties on the perception of nepotism. 'With Nurul Izzah contesting for the deputy presidency, our party cannot run away from the 'nepotism' issue. I have no plans on prolonging this topic but I fear the public perception against the party,' he said during a live recording of his Yang Bakar Menteri podcast at the MBSJ multipurpose hall in Serdang here. Zaliha ignored hundreds of objections Rafizi also took issue with PKR election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa over her handling of the party's divisional elections, which had resulted in many of his allies losing their contest. He accused her of ignoring hundreds of objections filed by members. Rafizi said the party's election panel was supposed to be an independent body that filters candidates vying for posts and identifies issues early on. He questioned how the committee could have such a major oversight in the contest for the Jempol division chief's post, which had to be redone after the initial winner was found to be a Pejuang leader in Melaka. 'If Zaliha wants to be angry with me, go ahead. But this is her committee's responsibility. I can't intervene as deputy president because there's a conflict of interest since I'm contesting. 'When there are objections, the committee should respond to each one. This time, there were hundreds of objections that went unanswered. When we ask about it, they feign ignorance. 'I know for a fact that, in this divisional election, they only started going through the objections after the polls were over. People were already angry by then,' he said. Rafizi said there were also claims that one winner was an Umno member, and that the issue of party memberships fell under the secretary-general, Fuziah Salleh. 'The secretary-general must take action. The election committee must also take action.' He said he could not speak out previously otherwise he would be accused of trying to influence the elections. However, he insisted that a lot of improvements needed to be made as to how PKR conducted its internal polls. 'Whoever becomes the election committee chairman after this must remember that they hold a heavy responsibility because they are the first gatekeeper to the party to prevent such incidents. 'So if members object (to something), don't look down on them and act as though you have bigger issues to handle,' he said.

US move to lift AI chip export curbs ‘good news' for Malaysia

Investment, trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz launching the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang today. SERDANG : The US government's plan to lift curbs on the export of sophisticated AI chips is 'good news' for Malaysian semiconductor industry players, says investment, trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz. Tengku Zafrul said the US administration is currently conducting a study on the matter, a development which Malaysia welcomes. Speaking to reporters after officiating the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 here today, he noted that industry players are also pleased with the announcement, adding that he expects more details to be announced soon. Malaysia is a major player in the global semiconductor industry and is looking to capitalise on a surge in demand driven by the global AI explosion. Bloomberg reported today that the Donald Trump administration is preparing to overturn some AI chip export restrictions introduced during former president Joe Biden's era as part of a larger effort to overhaul global semiconductor trade rules. The ongoing policy discussion is focussed on how to manage chip exports to nations outside China. Both the Biden and Trump administrations have sought to limit China's access to advanced semiconductors and AI technologies due to national security concerns and the potential for military use. On the negotiations Malaysia started with the US on Tuesday in a bid to scrap the 24% reciprocal tariff imposed on the country, Tengku Zafrul said his ministry's negotiators have had two meetings with their US counterparts so far. 'I will be meeting with US trade representative Jamieson Greer in South Korea for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum next week, and we will take stock of the negotiations then,' he said. The Malaysia Autoshow 2025, organised by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), will run until May 15. It features more than 200 exhibitors and has more than 500 vehicles on display, including Proton's first public reveal of its new electric vehicle model.
