Western Europe blocks peace in Ukraine
NATO-aligned European countries are obstructing peace efforts in Ukraine, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has said. Several EU member states are deliberately undermining negotiations and prolonging the conflict, he told TASS in an interview published this week. In May, under pressure from US President Donald Trump, Kiev agreed to direct talks with Russia, a step Moscow called logical and overdue. It marked the first such negotiations in three years and involved senior officials. Both sides pledged to stay in contact, completed a 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner swap, and exchanged ceasefire proposals. EU and NATO leaders, however, were 'relentlessly encouraging Kiev to continue hostilities,' Ryabkov said, citing a steady flow of weapons, military equipment, and pledges of continued support. He added that acts of sabotage and provocation were being planned and carried out, along with disinformation efforts aimed at disrupting the negotiation process. Last week, Kiev launched a coordinated drone strike on multiple Russian air bases and blew up railway bridges, causing the derailment of both civilian and freight trains. At least seven people were killed and more than 120 injured, including children. Russian authorities labeled the strikes 'terrorism' and accused Ukraine of trying to derail US-backed peace efforts. Some military analysts suggested that such attacks would not have been possible without Western intelligence support. Ryabkov also accused certain EU leaders of meddling in US domestic politics by pressuring Trump to adopt former President Joe Biden's more aggressive pro-Ukraine stance. As an example, Ryabkov cited German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who met with Trump in Washington earlier this week. Merz urged the US to intensify its involvement and increase pressure on Russia. He had earlier lifted restrictions on German-supplied weapons to Ukraine, a move Ryabkov said contradicted efforts toward a political settlement. Ryabkov's remarks were echoed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who accused Brussels of fully aligning with Kiev's military aims and called the EU a 'war party.' 'The main signals from Brussels and European capitals now relate to... plans for the militarization of Europe, which is clearly at odds with the mood of the presidents of Russia and the United States,' Peskov added. According to Germany's Kiel Institute, the EU has provided nearly €50 billion in support to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale conflict in 2022, in addition to significant bilateral aid from member states.

Ukraine failed to destroy Russian planes in drone raid
None of the Russian aircraft targeted in Ukraine's recent drone attacks were destroyed, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has said. The aircraft sustained damage but will be repaired, he told TASS In an interview published on Wednesday. Ukrainian drones struck several Russian airbases on Sunday, in a coordinated assault across five regions, from Murmansk in the Arctic to Irkutsk in Siberia. Kiev has claimed that the strikes damaged or destroyed approximately 40 Russian military aircraft, including Tu-95 and Tu-22 long-range bombers. Moscow, however, has dismissed both the numbers and extent of damage. 'The equipment in question, as also stated by the Defense Ministry, was not destroyed, but damaged. It will be restored,' Ryabkov said, responding to a question about whether the strikes had affected strategic stability. Kiev's claims about the results of the attack have been inconsistent, Ryabkov claimed. 'There is nothing even remotely close' to the damage levels quoted by Kiev, he said, urging reporters to rely only on information shared through the Russian Defense Ministry's official channels. The official also stated that prior to the recent phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Moscow had raised concerns with Washington that US officials had not responded to the attack. Trump had reportedly insisted to Putin that the US had no prior knowledge of Kiev's plans to strike Russian airfields, according to the Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov. On Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also confirmed that Putin and had told Trump a Russian response to the strikes is inevitable and that it would be carried out at the discretion of the Russian military. Putin has accused the 'illegitimate regime in Kiev' of carrying out terrorist attacks and 'gradually turning into a terrorist organization.' Shortly after the Trump-Putin phone call on Wednesday, the US Embassy in Kiev issued a security alert, warning of a 'continued risk of significant air attacks.' The US State Department has advised Americans currently in Ukraine to identify shelter locations in advance and keep reserves of water, food, and medication. Moscow has repeatedly condemned Ukraine's continued drone strikes and acts of sabotage on Russian territories, claiming that they undermine ongoing efforts to find a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov made the remark in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, according to Turkey's Anadolu Agency. "Trump says a lot of things. We, naturally, read and follow all of this. But in many ways, we come to the conclusion that Trump is not being sufficiently informed about what is really happening in the context of the Ukrainian-Russian confrontation," Ryabkov reportedly said. Ryabkov added that Trump is not being kept up to date with Ukrainian strikes on Russian cities – which he described as "terrorist attacks" -- and said Trump also "does not fully understand that the Russian Federation is striking exclusively at Ukrainian military infrastructure facilities or military-industrial complex facilities," the news agency reported. Russian foreign ministry: Talks to include issue of Ukrainian territories
A senior Russian foreign ministry official says Moscow intends to discuss the four Ukrainian regions it claims to have annexed in the upcoming direct talks with Kyiv. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov briefed reporters on Tuesday on the agenda for the talks with Ukraine. Moscow unilaterally proposed holding the meeting in Turkey on Thursday. Ryabkov said discussions will focus on reaching a sustainable peace agreement based on realities on the ground, particularly new Russian territories. Russia unilaterally declared the annexation of the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine, and Zaporizhzhia and Kherson in the south. Ryabkov added that Russia is ready to conduct serious and responsible negotiations, but said Ukraine appears to be unwilling to negotiate. A western diplomatic source in Moscow told NHK that President Vladimir Putin is unlikely to take part in the coming negotiations. The source says Russia and Ukraine are likely to settle for working-level talks.
